Central Connecticut Basketball Teams Gear Up for Promising Season Amid High Expectations

New Britain, CT – October 25, 2023 – The Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) basketball programs are poised for an exciting season as both the men’s and women’s teams prepare to tip off their 2023-2024 campaigns. With a mix of returning talent, promising newcomers, and a renewed focus on competitiveness, the Blue Devils are looking to make waves in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and beyond.

Men’s Basketball: A Fresh Start Under New Leadership

The men’s team, led by head coach Patrick Sellers, is entering its third season under his guidance. After a rebuilding phase, the Blue Devils are aiming to climb the NEC standings and secure a spot in the conference tournament. Last season, the team showed flashes of potential, and with a strong recruiting class, expectations are higher than ever.

Key returning players include senior guard Kellen Amos, who averaged 14.5 points per game last season and earned All-NEC honors. Amos will be joined by junior forward Jayden Brown, whose defensive prowess and rebounding ability have made him a cornerstone of the team. The Blue Devils also welcome several transfers and freshmen, including Jordan Jones, a highly touted guard expected to make an immediate impact.

Senior guard Emma McCamus, the team’s leading scorer last season, is back to anchor the offense. McCamus, known for her clutch shooting and leadership, will be supported by junior forward Belle Lanpher, who emerged as a dominant force in the paint last year. The team also added depth with the arrival of Mia Johnson, a freshman guard with a reputation for her scoring ability.
