2018 L.P. Gibson Standard. Marshall dsl40cr. It had a Celestion G12 Vtype 70w stock 2019 new model dsl. I thought it sounded good. Ok listen up, F..the pedals and pickups and TUBES. This Speaker I literally traumatized. In 1 second I said whoa! It transformed everything. The cleans are brighter my les paul sings it sounds fuller smoother louder but not pitchy. If u blindfolded me I’d say it’s two different amps. If u have stock dsl40 and u like to play anything from Hendrix to blues to Slash omg I finally got slashes tone. It’s the SPEAKER IN A MARSHAL AN A LP! Lol he uses this speaker. I love it. Mine came in 3 boxes till finally getting to the celestion. It was over protected THANK U. Trust me I checked for any problems thing was packed perfect and mint. IDK WAT OTHERS Are saying they made me nervous to trust this one! THANK GOD I DONT LISTEN TO PEOPLE. Who knows what scam their trying to pull or maybe they dropped it. Listen take your time. Don’t rush take pics of how it’s installed and watch your tubes it’s easy to do don’t touch the amp part with two hands or at all u don’t need to. Jus be careful put it in on an angle so it doesn’t hit the tubes and hand screw em first make sure it’s straight that’s it. It will blow ur stock dsl away. Any Marshall It’s the exact tone I wanted. Wow just wow!

HOLLY S..!!! Best purchase I ever made!

By josh polce on December 29, 2019

Was very hesitant in getting the speaker for my Katana but after I installed it I was alot happier with the sound it removes the mushy sound at higher volumes and sound so much fuller!

I replaced the stock speaker in my Marshall DSL40C with the Vintage 30. It is not even close to being broken in but let me say WOW! I have a Schecter with active EMG's in it and it sounded pretty good even with the stock speaker in it. I bought an ESP with Seymour Duncan passive pickups on it and no matter the adjustments to the amp or pedal board it always sounded muddy in the bottom end. I paid a lot of money for that ESP and was fit to be tied. I was thinking about switching out the Duncan's with something else but I kept thinking, this is an ESP guitar built by hand in Japan. Not an LTD from S. Korea and these are the king of kings when it comes to Metal so I better do some research first. I found an article online which stated that upgrading the speaker in your amp is probably the first step to take if you have a quality guitar, a good tube amp but it doesn't sound right. It went on to say that in most cases people replace the pups which are not cheap to buy 2 high quality humbuckers. If you can't replace them yourself be prepared to let it sit at a Tech's shop for a couple of weeks and pay them even more money. In most cases this still doesn't do the trick. I'm glad I read this article first and replaced the speaker with one of the best ever, a Vintage 30 because now my ESP sounds like a guitar of it's caliber. Mud no more! Sounds great and it only took me about 10-15 minutes from start to finish to swap out the speakers. Do not hesitate to buy these speakers because they will not disappoint. No disrespect to the ESP LTD series either, they are great guitars as well.

I put this speaker into my blackstar ht5r mkii combo amp to replace the stock speaker. The old speaker sounded muffled all the time no matter what I did. As soon as I swapped the celestion speaker I found the open sound I was looking for. The speaker bolts line up perfectly so no necessary drilling. It also has two poles for the positive and negative lead attachments which are also labeled to help you wire the speaker if you have limited area to work with. The speaker is slightly louder than the original but I do believe this is due to the better treble and middle frequencies of the celestion speaker. Magnet size matters lol. As soon as you pick up the speakers for comparison you can notice the quality difference and weight. Overall this speaker is awesome. It brought my amp to life and I would definitely recommend.

A year ago I tried the 16 ohm version in my 2017 Peavey Bandit. The Blue Marvel speaker that came with it is actually a very good speaker. But I couldn't get the tone from the Vintage 30 out of my head. So the 16 ohm (UK version) went back into my Peavey Classic 30 (where I'm very happy to have it). This 8 ohm version is actually warmer sounding then the 16 ohm version (to my surprise). And it's not even broken in yet.! With my Strat on the neck pickup on the clean channel with the eq at 12 o'clock it sounds "Hendrix like, think 'The Wind Cries Mary). On the drive channel with the drive and treble at 10 o'clock, mid and bass at 12, it sounds very much like a cranked Plexi.

Replaced the Celestion Seventy 80in my Marshall DSL40C. Significantly improved the sound, tightened the bass, and cut most of the fizziness from the highs without losing clarity. Would definitely recommend as an upgrade. I got the 8 ohm version, which limits the ability to add an extension speaker in my amp, but I never use one anyway and the 8 ohm versions tend to sound better than the 16 ohm ones.

Great replacement for rock and metal amp

By Mike on September 12, 2021

I have 3 speaker cabs, each with a different speaker. I have several guitars and amps. Everything I’ve got sounds good through 2 of the cabs. Nothing sounds good through this speaker. It’s sort of like the speaker itself distorts when I play any kind of pedal through it. And it’s not a good distortion. Only clean guitar sounds are listen-worthy. It sounds as if I’m playing at volumes exceeding the speaker’s stated wattage limit. But I am not. I read some of the “bad” reviews and thought, but it’s a Celestion. However, this turned out to be a waste of $150. What a disappointment.

So the box was labeled Vintage 30 but it was a G12M-65 Creamback 16 ohm inside. This speaker turned out to sound better than what I was going for so I kept it but uhh weird.

Simply the best!

This is fantastic! I bought this speaker to replace the Celestion 70/80 in my new Marshal DSL 40C combo amp, there's nothing wrong with the 70/80 but I was just curious to see if there might be an improvement in the sound. Let me tell ya, the difference was jaw dropping, suddenly it became became so much more articulate. Everything seemed to just tighten up and clean, revealing subtle differences I hadn't noticed before. Also the dynamic range increased tremendously but with no muddyness in the sound, it has made an already brilliant amp even better. To say I am blown away is an understatement, also comparing the two speakers after removing the original 70/80, I noticed the magnet on the Vintage-30 is over twice the thickness and size of the 70/80. The weight is also over twice as much in the Vintage-30, so in conclusion if you want to improve the sound of your Marshal DSL-40C. Do yourself a favour and spend the extra money on a Vintage-30 speaker, you won't be disappointed!

If You Love Mid-Range and Distortion

Bought the Vintage 30 to replace the stock Celestion Seventy 80 in my Marshall DSL40C. It's all about personal taste as there are a lot of different speakers out there. Personally I like the mid-range hump of the Vintage 30 - especially for overdriven/distorted sounds. To my humble ears the stock speaker sounded tinny with very harsh top ends. Took me about 10 minutes to swap the speakers over, no soldering required. Once this baby is broken in it will sound even more awesome I'm sure.

its a Vintage 30!

Asked to review this, so any guitar players out there are probably familiar with this speaker and know how it sounds. I replaced a Celestion 70/80 as it sounds like crap and is a cheap speaker. So this sound's like a vintage 30 should in my setup. I like it. guitar guys....each to their own tone as that is master.

Not much to say other than they are pretty consistent, all Vintage 30 work well and sound pretty good.

Paired with Marshall DSL40C

It's a V30 Celestion, upgraded from a Seventy/80. I'm very satisfied with this product. The sound is an improvement as it has a cleaner tone and less bass scoop than the original speaker.

Back in 1986 a new breed of hard rock player was on the rise. To meet the demands of the players and their increasingly 'hot-rodded' amplifiers, we set out to develop a modern speaker, capable of handling much more power and overdrive. To achieve this, we coupled our 'H' magnet (the closest in performance to Alnico) with a new cone and voice coil employing contemporary materials. Our most revealing speaker, the Vintage 30 features enormously detailed and complex overtones, a warm low-end, a famously rich vocal mid-range and a beautifully detailed top-end. Used singly to reveal the complexities in hand-wired boutique amps, or in quartets for a wonderfully intricate vintage three dimensional crunch, the Vintage 30 sound has been captured on thousands of recordings by players including Slash and Peter Frampton and bands ranging from Gov't Mule to Killswitch Engage. Celestion Vintage 30 or simply V30, is a speaker that has earned the place of one of the best guitar speakers, used by guitarists of the stature of Slash, it has already become a classic.
Since its inception in 1986, the Vintage 30 , or simply the V30 , has become one of Celestion’s most popular and beloved guitar speakers. With three decades on the market, it has sold more than a million units.
The Celestion Vintage 30 speaker is a standard and reference in the world of guitar speakers. Thus, we can find several versions of the competition of the V30 loudspeaker, such as the Veteran 30 from WGS or the P50E or The Governor from Eminence .
In developing the Vintage 30 , Celestion made pioneering use of laser Doppler interferometry to analyze the cone behavior of an original Celestion Blue . Thus, they developed a precise model of the characteristics of the vintage loudspeaker and applied it to a speaker design built with new, more modern materials capable of handling greater power.
Celestion found that Heavy or H magnet was more like the Alnico in performance. This was used with a new cone and a new voice coil that uses modern materials with similar mass and physical properties to the original vintage speakers. But capable of handling the addition
