Stars Who Have Used Dating Apps: Who Found Love, and Who Logged Off?
Some stars are swiping right, while others aren't feeling the connection
So what did Kajaala say that caused sparks to fly? "We matched on Tinder in Finland when I was there for a competition, and his opening line was, ‘Are you here for business or are you here just to meet me?’ ” Ripon shared on Dancing with the Stars.

The talk show host declared in September that she wasn't looking for love ("I have been in that mentality for the past five years, thinking I just don't have the bandwidth, I don't know if I'm willing to open [up,] I just can't fit it in") — but recently, a binge-watch of the steamy Netflix hit Bridgerton might have changed her mind.
"I got back on a dating app during Bridgerton," she admitted to two of the show's cast members. "I was like, 'I'm not dead! I'm not dead!' For me, that was a big step."

Speaking to host Andy Cohen on an episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, the This Is Us star opened up about joining Bumble — where she soon matched with her now-boyfriend Bradley Collins — at the start of quarantine.
After deciding to hunker down in Nashville early on in the pandemic, she said she felt “kind of bored” and decided to “try the old Bumble.”
“I love the idea that like the woman gets to take the first step. I think that's so cool, I love that. And yeah I mean of course you got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a Prince,” she said of eventually connecting with Collins.
“Bradley [Collins] and I have all the same friends, he knows all the same songwriters, he's [been] in music publishing for 16 years. And so we've been in the same rooms, but we had never met. So I was like, well, I feel like it, you know, it was meant to be for sure,” she added.
Speaking with Chrissy Metz on his SiriusXM show about her luck with Bumble, Cohen revealed that he's technically on Tinder — although he doesn't use it much.
"I'm on Tinder. I never check it, but I'm on Tinder," he told Metz, adding that he's "been kicked off Tinder for people saying I was impersonating me."
The Real Housewives of New York star met her current beau, trainer Garth Wakeford, on a dating app - and said her initial reaction to his photo was "He's too good to be true." When they met up in person for coffee, she was delighted to find out he was the real deal: "He’s tall, he’s handsome, he looks like a Viking."
Since her 2017 divorce, de Lesseps has been casually dating, and turned to apps during Covid to keep meeting people. "My niece got me on Hinge and then got me on Raya, so I've been kind of flirting on some dating apps," she said. "It's so much fun to date but with COVID it's hard to date, so I feel like flirting is the next best thing."

In the May 2020 issue of Harper's Bazaar, the singer said that she appeared to be blocked from Raya after deleting her previous account. "I just deleted it out of respect to the person I was with, then we broke up and I went to get back on," she said. "And I was like, ‘You know what? It’s fine. I don’t need to be on this because I think I’m supposed to be alone right now.'"
After a whirlwind romance with Max Ehrich that ended with a broken engagement in September, Lovato is back on the market (but no word if she's back on Raya).

The actress acknowledged to Stylist that dating as a former child star isn't easy, but she's figured out a solution: "Raya for life. Love it. God bless Raya."
In March, the actress told Harper's Bazaar that she wasn't opposed to dating apps, but because she doesn't want to date other celebrities, her one Raya date was a bust.
"I’ve always had the same philosophy when it comes to dating,” she said. “Not that I wouldn’t give someone a try. But trying to keep my private life outside of my work life, to me, it’s easiest when you don’t date someone with the same career.”
When being The Bachelorette fails, why not try a dating app or two? Well, turns out it might not be so easy! Hannah Brown lamented on her Instagram Story in February 2020 that she had not yet been approved to join the celebrity dating app, Raya.
“You guys, I don’t know if you know this, but I was the Bachelorette and I can’t get on Raya!” said Brown, as her friend Elyse, a pastor, chuckled to the side.
“I’ve been on the waiting list for months now,” the Dancing with the Stars champ added. “She’s a pastor, she got on Raya. I’m done — Christian Mingle here I come.”
Brown then joked about her drama-filled season, saying, “I might not be allowed on Christian Mingle at this point, but Jesus still loves me.”

"I've done Raya. I tried to match with John Mayer — it didn't work," the "Juice" singer said during her visit to Busy Tonight. According to her, the celeb-based app is "boring," and romance hopefuls are more likely to find success on less restrictive platforms.
"My dancer wanted to have a hoe phase, so I decided to join her, and I went on one of the, you know, lower-echelon dating apps," she said. "No shade, but you don't have to get confirmed … So I hopped on it and I had a hoe phase for like a week and it was really fun."
Celebrity Sightings In Los Angeles - September 21, 2018
“I think when I was younger I tried the gauntlet of [dating apps]. And then, I just don’t use them anymore,” the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star told Entertainment Tonight. “I used Raya for a little while, but I deactivated it.”
“It’s just, for me, I’d rather meet people doing things that I enjoy doing, because then we already have similarities between us,” Centineo explained. “It’s like, if I go to a yoga class, and someone is in that yoga class and I think she’s cute, we already are off to a great start because we both like yoga.”
Before meeting beau Jacob Busch, the Hustle actress revealed to PEOPLE that she had tried out Raya, an exclusive dating app for high-profile singles.
"I've been on it a few years, but I'm only active for a week or two," she said. "When you're seeing somebody, you're not on it. It's only for the times in between when you're very much single. And just looking for who's out there. But I think it's a really good tool and a lot of the Pitch Perfect girls are on it, and a lot of my girlfriends in the industry are on it."
"No offense to people who go on Tinder, but I just feel like it's ruining romance, I really do," Smith told the U.K.'s Metro in 2014. "We're losing the art of conversation and being able to go and speak to people, and you’re swiping people."
That's not to say the singer is opposed to all dating apps! Smith (who uses gender-neutral pronouns) shared that they got kicked off the dating app Hinge almost immediately: "They chucked me off of it after one night cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me."
From Tinder to true love! The Olympic swimmer and his model love now have two kids - and it all started with a swipe. When the Daily Mail asked in 2016 how they met, she coyly replied, "He was on Tinder. I might be on Tinder. That's all I'm going to say about it."
When you're striking out on Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and every other app made for dating, try taking a page from the 20-year-old beauty YouTuber's book.
Charles turned to TikTok in an effort to put himself out there and get "wifed up" in 2020. "I live in Los Angeles, Calif., and I am a beauty YouTuber, so sometimes I look pretty, and when I don't look pretty, I have a pretty fun personality to make up for it," the self-proclaimed "painfully single" star told his potential suitors. "I also have fun nails for back scratching and cuddling," he continued. "If those things are of interest to you, and you are a male, leave me a comment down below, or I guess, duet this video." Honestly, may we all be this brave.
The actress was in for a surprise when she attempted to join Bumble, and ended up being blocked from the dating app.
Stone tweeted, "I went on the @bumble dating sight and they closed my account. Some users reported that it couldn’t possibly be me! Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary? Don’t shut me out of the hive."
In a follow-up tweet, the star posted a screenshot of her notice from Bumble as proof, which read, "Your account has been blocked because we've received several reports about your profile being fake."
After Stone's tweet caught the attention of thousands on Twitter, the company issued a statement, saying, "Sharon Stone is back on Bumble! Our apologies for the confusion as we're so honored that Ms. Stone wants to be a part of the Hive. However, being the icon that she is, we can understand how so many of our users felt it was too good to be true once they noticed her profile wasn't photo verified."
We assume she was thrilled to get back to swiping.
The Last O.G. star gave us a glimpse at her past online dating adventures on The Tonight Show, and she definitely won't be relying on apps to find her Prince Charming. "Online dating — man, I don't like it, because I feel like that's where I meet a lot of creeps," she said. "Dudes that have a really nice picture and you're like, 'Oh I can't wait to meet him,' and then you go to the Starbucks to meet him and you're like, 'Oh my God, he is a booger wolf …' His breath smells like he's been eating for eggs for days. His beard is ashy! He got an ashy beard.”
Celebrities Visit SiriusXM - March 7, 2018
In case you were wondering, the Olympic skater is a very big fan of Tinder — he met current boyfriend Jussi-Pekka Kajaala on the dating app!
It’s “fresh,” Rippon quipped to PEOPLE of his new relationship in April 2018. “I’m fresh!”
Rippon says they’ve “been talking for the past seven months” and then “started to hang out a little bit more, because we were both really busy.”

The Orange Is the New Black actress sat down with Access on in March 2018, when she revealed to Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover that she met her mystery boyfriend of eight months on the dating app Tinder. (They've since split.)
“Honestly, I’m a Tinder girl. When I broke up with my ex, I went back on Tinder, because I feel like if you want to date, you have to be on the apps. You have to be on the apps to be in the game,” she said.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Theron revealed that her friend Chelsea Handler had introduced her to the wild world of online dating. "She was on her phone and she showed it to me and she was explaining it to me in that Chelsea Handler way, which is just like, ‘Yeah, everybody's doing this. What's wrong with you? Where have you been, under a rock?'" Theron joked. "So then I took real interest, and I was like, okay, well tell me, how does it work? And she's swiping all these faces of guys in all different sorts of — I'm going to sound like I'm 80. But they're in all sorts of different variations of no clothes, and then they know that you’ve just said no, I don't like you."
Even with the intro lesson, Theron isn't convinced that dating apps are for her. "And then you have to text them and then the flirting starts and it's kind of awkward because you don't know the person and they're trying to be cute and they say weird things like, 'What's up, sexy?' And it's just awkward," she complained. "This is why I'm still single. I just like a good old friend hooking you up, or, I don't know, introducing you. I'm so old school."
The busy Real Housewives of New York City star has had enough technology-free dating success to keep her off of the apps. "I didn't start doing dating apps. I have been fairly successful on my own," she told PEOPLE. "I wouldn't have enough time to date online. I thought about it, but I haven't actually done it because I wouldn't have the time."
But Frankel hasn't ruled out the possibility of getting into the swipe game one day. "If it gets there and it's a dry country, maybe I'll think about it — but it hasn't gotten to that point. At my age I got game, who knew?" she said.

The actress won't be downloading any of the apps in the near future. The Modern Family star is currently engaged to Bachelor in Paradise alum Wells Adams — with whom she connected on Twitter — but even if she were single, she'd "never" consider online dating. "Stranger Dangers are online!" she told ET. "You just don't know. Catfish can happen anytime … It freaks me out. I just like talking one-on-one."
In August 2016, the champion U.S. gymnasts insisted they were all single and ready to mingle, but Aly Raisman said they would not be using Tinder to find their new love interests, saying simply: "We don't need Tinder."
WHEN KHLOé ENCOURAGED FANS TO KEEP TABS ON IRREGULAR MOLES
It's hard to imagine that Kardashian had any trouble meeting eligible suitors before linking up with ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson, but after her relationship with NBA player James Harden ended in 2016, she revealed that she actually had a dating profile on OkCupid, which her best friend set up for her: "I've never done online dating before, but just for s--ts and giggles, Malika and I decided to fill one out. It was actually really fun to do, LOL!"
After confirming that her Tinder profile was real during an interview with Ryan Seacrest, she featured the app in her music video "Sparks," along with a few of her actual (and very lucky) matches. "It kind of started out to be a joke with my girlfriends. I was like, 'Explain this whole thing to me because it's kind of blowing my mind,'" she revealed. "In my life, I've always had really serious boyfriends, I've always met people through work, and I've never been on a blind date."
Duff is now married to musician Matthew Koma. The pair are currently expecting their second child together, who will join big sister Banks Violet and Duff's son from her previous marriage, Luca Cruz.
Before dating Bryan Tanaka, Carey used the music video for "Infinity" to reveal that she was looking for love online, thanks to scenes that featured the diva browsing Match.com while relaxing on her couch in a dramatic, sparkling gown. You know, just your average Saturday night.

Despite her daughter's suggestion that she start swiping, Sarandon isn't sure that she wants to sign up for a dating app just yet – she's actually hoping to meet someone the old-fashioned way. "I'm a New Yorker. I've always lived here, but one of the reasons that I love New York is that the serendipity is just so thick here, so you can go out on the street and just see things you didn't count on, and you don't have to swipe left or right," she said in a Q&A.
Are you looking for a woman who can teach you how to bake an apple pie to perfection and live your best, most Pinterest-worthy life? Then you might want to try Match.com, where Stewart was a member as of 2013. "I've always been a big believer that technology, if used well, can enhance one's life," she told the Today show in 2013. "So here I am, looking to enhance my dating life."
Your 16-year-old, madly-in-love-with-Nate-Archibald self is about to freak out: Crawford revealed to the U.K.'s Now magazine that he had "a bunch of different accounts that nobody even knows about" to help him find love. If you'll excuse us, we have some swiping to do …
Back in 2014 – and thus, way before her reconciled romance with Orlando Bloom began – Perry told the The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 that she was "really deep on Tinder, so I don't have a whole lot of time." (How many pickup lines about cherry ChapStick do you think she had to endure?) She and Bloom welcomed their first child together, daughter Daisy Dove, in August 2020.
Perry's current fiancé went a slightly different route when it came to his attempts to find love online: He made a fake Facebook profile (featuring his friend's photo) in order to meet people without them realizing that he was the star of one of the biggest film franchises in the world.
After Tinder added verified profiles for celebrities, they reached out to Sheeran to see if he was interested in finding a new muse, and he swiped left on the offer. "I haven't got time to go on loads of dates," Sheeran, who is married to Cherry Seaborn, told Total Access Radio in 2014. "It just sounds quite creepy doing that. You're just using your celebrity status to hook up with chicks."
