Jeopardy! History Wiki is a FANDOM TV Community.
Celebrity Jeopardy! aired on October 26, 1992. It features notable individuals as contestants competing for charitable organizations of their choice (or, in the cases of public officials, relevant charities chosen by the Jeopardy! production staff). The tradition of distinctive Jeopardy matches featuring celebrity contestants goes back to the original NBC series, which featured appearances by such notables as Rod Serling, Bill Cullen, Art James, and Peter Marshall. On the Trebek version, Celebrity Jeopardy! has traditionally been broadcast annually as a weeklong event, and on occasion, there has been a specific version of this event, called Power Players Week; it features personalities in politics and journalism. In the regular games, in which a player finishing the Double Jeopardy! round with a zero/negative score is disqualified from playing the Final Jeopardy! round, Celebrity Jeopardy instead grants players a given positive score with which to wager for the final round. Since its debut, Celebrity Jeopardy has featured over 200 celebrity contestants, including Anderson Cooper, Lauren Graham, Jodie Foster, Ashton Kutcher, Nathan Lane, Chris Matthews, Harry Connick, Jr., Neil Patrick Harris, Lynn Redgrave, LeVar Burton, Andy Richter, David Duchovny, Wayne Brady, Star Jones, Jane Seymour, Jason Alexander, Regis Philbin, Pat Sajak, Sam Waterston, Mike Piazza, Larry King, Buzz Aldrin, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tom Clancy, Kirsten Dunst, Naomi Judd, Kelsey Grammer, Charles Shaughnessy, Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr., Stephen King, and Carol Burnett. The last celebrity week so far to date got held in May 2015, and in May 2016, the last Power Players Week so far to date took place at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., which also took place in November 1997, May 2004, and May 2012 respectively. It's been announced that a new Celebrity Jeopardy! primetime tournament will premiere on September 25, 2022 on ABC hosted by Mayim Bialik .

What is another version of Jeopardy! for fans to enjoy?
Jeopardy! isn’t just for weeknights anymore, as ABC is premiering a spinoff of the popular game show, Celebrity Jeopardy! , a brand new entry to the fall 2022 US TV schedule.
Celebrity Jeopardy! may sound familiar to many. The first thing people may think of is the Saturday Night Live sketch that saw Will Ferrell play a beleaguered Alex Trebek against incredibly dumb parody versions of famous celebrities, most notably Sean Connery (Darrell Hammond). However, there have been many actual Celebrity Jeopardy! tournaments over the years, but those were usually at most once a year. This new version of Celebrity Jeopardy! is a weekly primetime event.
Here is everything that we know about Celebrity Jeopardy!
Celebrity Jeopardy! premieres Sunday, September 25, at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC. Unlike its weekday counterpart, Celebrity Jeopardy! runs for an hour.
Celebrity Jeopardy! kicks off ABC’s Sunday night primetime lineup, which also includes the new Celebrity Wheel of Fortune at 9 pm ET/PT and The Rookie season 5 at 10 pm ET/PT.
It’ll be fun to see how Celebrity Jeopardy! compares in its first batch of ratings to Sunday Night Football . Of course viewers could always double dip if they don’t mind missing the first quarter or so of the weekly NFL game.
Mayim Bialik has been tapped to host Celebrity Jeopardy!
Bialik serves as one of the permanent Jeopardy! hosts alongside Ken Jennings, but she also handles many of the primetime hosting duties for Jeopardy! , including the Jeopardy! National College Championship in spring 2022.
In addition to hosting Jeopardy! , Bialik is best known for her roles in The Big Bang Theory and on her currently running TV sitcom, Call Me Kat .
The first batch of contestants for Celebrity Jeopardy! have been revealed, with host Mayim Bialik sharing their names in a social media post:

In case you didn’t catch all of those names, here are the announced Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants:
We’ll update this list as more celebrity contestants are announced in the future.
It’s Jeopardy! but with famous people. The game format is not going to change, as three contestants still compete against each other by answering trivia questions in the form of a question hoping to rack up the most money. However, rather than for themselves, the contestants are competing for a charity of their choice.
One thing that may be different is that with the hour-long broadcast, two games may be played instead of the usual one in the half-hour weekday version of Jeopardy!
Celebrity Jeopardy! airs on ABC, meaning that just about anyone with a traditional cable subscription of a TV antenna can watch it live on their TV. Those who have made the switch to a live TV streaming service, like FuboTV , Hulu With Live TV or YouTube TV , can also watch Celebrity Jeopardy! live.
To watch on-demand, the latest episodes are slated to be available to stream on Hulu or, if you’re a subscriber to another service with access to ABC, you can watch on ABC.com.

A “Jeopardy!” spinoff will be arriving soon on ABC.
“Celebrity Jeopardy!” is set to air during the fall 2022 to 2023 TV lineup, broadcasting on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
The show will give famous faces the chance to score money for a charity of their choice, similar to star-studded game shows like “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” and “Celebrity Family Feud.” But who will host this trivia VIP extravaganza?
Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment, told the Wrap on Tuesday that a host has yet to be announced and “we’ll have details soon.”
However, Erwich seemingly alluded to who will be the host in an interview with Variety , which asked if frequent “Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik is the front-runner to emcee the spinoff.
“It’s really just about the details of the announcement,” he said. “And we just are not ready yet, but we will be soon. I wouldn’t read anything into it.”
Bialik, 46, and Ken Jennings, 47, have taken on hosting duties for “Jeopardy!” following the ousting of the show’s former executive producer, Mike Richards.
Former game-show champ Mattea Roach gave her take on who should be the next permanent host for the long-running game show.
“I would say Ken because of his history with the show,” the 23-year-old contestant from Toronto, Canada, told Vulture earlier this month of her pick to replace longtime host Alex Trebek, who died in 2020 .
Roach continued, “As a contestant, there’s something really special about being onstage with the greatest player of all time. Someone who understands in a very visceral way what it’s like to be in your position. Mayim is fantastic, but she doesn’t have that same experience.”
Congratulations to Mattea Roach on a truly iconic @Jeopardy streak. I believe she's one of only three champs in history ever to "shoot their age": 23 years old, 23 wins. https://t.co/O0LBkWxRTf
Jennings revealed on May 10 that the “Big Bang Theory” star would take on a more permanent role on the show and he would be on a hiatus.
“Congratulations to Mattea Roach on a truly iconic @Jeopardy streak. I believe she’s one of only three champs in history ever to ‘shoot their age’: 23 years old, 23 wins,” Jennings tweeted .
“I’m handing the keys back to the talented actor-producer-writer-director (!) @missmayim for a few months. We are lucky to have her! Thanks for watching, and I’ll be back before the end of the season,” he added .

Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) in Marvel Studios’ “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Liu will compete on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” which premieres Sept. 25 on ABC.
Next month, “ Jeopardy! ” enters a new era with Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik as the permanent hosts of the beloved quiz show. But beyond that major development, the show is also gearing up for a number of special tournaments and spinoffs.
This includes the return of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” — and the show just revealed its star-studded lineup.
According to Entertainment Weekly , the roster of celebrity contestants features a mix of actors — including “Shang-Chi” star Simu Liu and Michael Cera — comedians and athletes. Below is the full list:

“It’s the OG ‘Jeopardy!’ with celebrities,” said Bialik, who will host “Celebrity Jeopardy!,” in a preview clip, per Entertainment Weekly . “Let’s hope they’ve been reading more than screenplays.”
“Celebrity Jeopardy!” premieres Sept. 25 on ABC and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
“ Jeopardy! ” is currently airing reruns during the offseason, but fans can expect new episodes — featuring Jennings as host — when Season 39 premieres on Sept. 12, the Deseret News reported.
Beginning Oct. 31, Jennings will also host the highly anticipated Tournament of Champions that will feature several contestants from this past season who have had spectacular runs: Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio , Mattea Roach and Ryan Long , TV Insider reported.
Bialik, meanwhile, will host “Celebrity Jeopardy!” the “Jeopardy!” National College Championship and other new tournaments in the works.
“The fact is, we have so much ‘Jeopardy!’ to make, and so many plans for the future, that we always knew we would need multiple hosts for the franchise and we are just so grateful that Mayim and Ken stepped in and stepped up to put the show in a position to succeed,” “Jeopardy!” Executive Producer Michael Davies said in a statement .
