Top TV betting pundit Tim Booth fires the opening salvo on a new set of housemates.
The nineteenth series of Celebrity Big Brother started on Tuesday, with All Stars and New Stars being the theme this time around. Of course, it’s never too early to start considering who might go on to make the final and win the show.
We have seen eight of this year’s lot before on previous iterations of the show. This is helpful as it means we have some past form to go on for half of this year’s cast. There are no previous winners, but many of them achieved respectable finishes the first time around. Previous runners up include; US model Austin Armacost, Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan and reality TV villains Heidi and Spencer, whereas third place has previously gone to model Calum Best and former Strictly pro James Jordan. Returning models Jasmine Waltz and Nicola McLean are likely to be in danger of being evicted fairly early on against such stiff competition.
Calum Best (7/2) is the early frontrunner and he certainly has a lot going for him. He is a very decent, good looking guy who changed public's perception last time he was on the show. Unbeknownst to Calum, he was joined by his mother Angie Best in the house on launch night. Viewers have been impressed by their endearing relationship from what has been shown thus far. This should keep Calum in the limelight for as long as she remains in the house. A potential downside for Calum’s chances is that there are several other good looking males in the show in Austin, James Jordan, US hip-hop star Ray J and footballer Jamie O’Mara. If most or all go on to make the final, they will undoubtedly be splitting the same vote.
The first housemates to walk into the doors this time around were Heidi and Spencer (5/1), otherwise referred to as Speidi. This is often a big sign of producer favour and Speidi are arguably the biggest name in the line up. They are some of the most notorious CBB villains of all time, and their plotting and scheming with each other makes them very watchable. Clues in the first two highlights shows have pointed to this series potentially revolving around them, perhaps in a ‘Speidi vs. the entire house’ narrative. Channel 5 have changed the show beyond recognition since they took it over, with antagonistic housemates now getting much of the airtime. Many have already gone on to win the show, such as Stephen Bear last time around. It’s very difficult to imagine Heidi and Spencer ever getting evicted, and it’s easy to see them in the Top 3 on final night at this stage. Given all of the above, they just about get the nod above Calum Best as the early pick to win, as they are a slightly bigger price.
It’s still very early days, but the New Stars don’t look like they’re going to be much in the way of competition. Most of them seem like they would struggle in eviction showdowns vs. the more established, All Star contestants. Similarly, two new housemates are entering tonight, but none of the rumoured names realistically look to be much of a threat in the outright.
Heidi and Spencer outright - 1pt @ 11/2
