The trope of older men dating younger women is a well-worn one when it comes to Hollywood.
From Leonardo DiCaprio and his slew of different girlfriends, to the once-married Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, men dating women many years younger than them is more than normal, it's accepted.
However, when the switch is flipped and society is forced to contend with the concept of 'The Older Woman', not only is the paradigm less widely praised, it's often unfairly called into question.
That being said, it hasn't stopped many famous women from dating—and sometimes marrying—men many years their junior.

The Being Mary Jane actress and NBA star first met in 2007, but didn't start dating until 2009. Union opened up about their nine-year age gap in a 2012 interview with Essence, revealing that it didn't take her long to see that their difference in years didn't matter at all.
"I assumed we'd have nothing in common, but once we started talking and texting it was like, 'Whoa, who are you? I thought you were 12'," she said.
"Once I got to understand his background, I came to realise that he's basically Isaac Hayes trapped in a twenty-something body. He's an old soul."
The pair eventually married in 2014, and welcomed a baby girl, Kaavia James, via surrogate in 2018.
International superstar Shakira, 43, and her soccer champion partner Gerard Piqué, 33, began dating in 2010, after meeting on the set of her "Waka Waka" music video. They have two sons together, Milan, 6 and Sasha, 4, and incidentally both share the same birthday, February 2 (10 years apart, obviously).
In a 2013 interview with ELLE U.S., the "Hips Don't Lie" singer opened up about how meeting Piqué restored her faith in love.
"I think, if you can prove the existence of God, it can only be proven through love. I even had lost my faith for a while. I was becoming as agnostic," she said.
"And it was really hard, because I was always very religious, and for a few years, maybe because—it sounds so corny—I was not feeling the love like it was supposed to be, I started to think that there was no God. And suddenly I meet Gerard and the sun comes out."
Arguably one of the most famous older-woman-younger-man relationships in Hollywood in recent years, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas caused a stir when they stepped out together at the 2017 Met Gala, although their relationship wasn't made official until mid 2018.
Since news of their coupledom broke in 2018, the pair have dealt with strong (and often unjust) online reactions to their 10-year age difference. Chopra addressed the double standards surrounding people's opinions on their age difference in a June 2019 interview.
"People gave us a lot of shit about that and still do," she said.
"I find it really amazing when you flip it and the guy is older, no one cares, and actually, people like it."
Evidently, their age gap doesn't bother Jonas. The musician, who seems to have a preference for older women—having had previous relationships with Delta Goodrem and Kate Hudson—apparently feels that Chopra's age makes her "even more attractive" to him.
Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bedjima
Kourtney Kardashian, 40, reportedly started dating her off-again-on-again boyfriend Younes Bendjima, a 26-year-old model, in December 2016.
She's also rumoured to have dated 22-year-old Luka Sabbat, and according to Hollywood Life, reportedly prefers relationships with younger men at this stage in her life.
"Kourtney really doesn't feel like she's almost 40, she's actually feeling younger than she has in years," a source told the outlet in 2018.
"She's never felt sexier or more in control and dating younger guys just adds to her feeling of empowerment. Right now, Kourtney just wants to have fun, she's got young energy and honestly questions whether a guy her own age could even keep up with her.
"Kourtney started dating Scott when she was still in her twenties. She doesn't regret anything because she has her beautiful kids thanks to that relationship, but she does feel like she missed out on a lot. Dating all these younger guys is Kourtney's way of making up for lost time."
Although it's not clear whether Kardashian and Bendjima are still a couple, they were last seen together in a photo taken at the Kardashian's big 2019 Christmas party, which Kardashian shared to her Instagram.
Jada Pinkett Smith and August Alsina
During a period in which Jada Pinkett Smith and husband Will Smith were separated, the 48-year-old Girls Trip actress began a relationship (or as she called it, an "entanglement") with 27-year-old R'n'B singer August Alsina.
It is unclear when or for how long the pair were together, however Alsina claimed their, as he calls it, "entangleship", lasted for an undisclosed number of "years".
While they might be married with two children now, Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr, 36, initially thought her nine-year age difference with the Snapchat Founder, 29, was too big to take him "seriously" when they met in 2015.
"I was like, 'He's cute… but he's way too young to take seriously,'" she told U.K. newspaper The Times in 2017.
She also told Porter magazine that, while Spiegel is younger than her, he's mature beyond his years.
"He's 25, but he acts like he's 50. He's not out partying," Kerr said in 2017.
"He goes to work in Venice [Beach in L.A.]. He comes home. We don't go out. We'd rather be at home and have dinner, go to bed early."
The Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet, 52, and Game of Thrones star Jason Moma, 40, met in a jazz club in 2005, tied the knot in 2017, and have been together ever since.
Bonet, who gave birth to their first child in 2007 (her second, having had Zoë Kravitz during her marriage to Lenny Kravitz) and their second in 2008, has never addressed their age gap publicly. She has, however, opened up about why Momoa is a great partner.
'What is cool about Jason is that he is an alpha male who stands for love and family," she said in a 2018 interview with Porter.
"And to circle back to my own wounds, having an absent father, then to be met by a man of that stature, is really incredible. Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age—he is a leader; he is generous. Cameron Diaz, 47, and Beni Madden, 40, began dating in 2014. The pair married one year later, and welcomed their first child—a daughter named Raddix Madden—in January 2020.
Cameron Diaz and singer Justin Timberlake, who is now married to Jessica Biel, dated on-and-off for four years from 2003 to 2007.
Diaz, now 47, was about 31 when she first began seeing Timberlake, who was roughly 22 at the time. In 2004, the Sweetest Thing star weighed in on the public's interest in their age difference in an interview with W magazine.
"It's not like this is the first time in the history of human relationships that people were drawn to one another because of who they are, not what age they are," she said (quote via People).
Jennifer Lopez may have turned 50 in 2019 (and threw the most extravagant birthday party to celebrate it), but her fiancé Alex Rodriguez, 44, has yet to join her in same age bracket.
The pair have been together since 2017, getting engaged in March 2019, and each have two children from their previous marriages.
Lopez famously began dating her back-up dancer Casper Smart in 2011, when she was 42 and he was 24. The pair were together intermittently for five years, briefly separating in 2014 before calling it quits in 2016.

Potentially the most renowned older-woman-younger-man couple of the '00s, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher met in 2003 and publicly debuted their relationship at the premiere of Moore's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
Marrying in 2005, their 16-year age difference became the source of many tabloid headlines at the time. Moore, who was even rumoured to have dated Nick Jonas at a later time, was one of the first women to be branded with the now-problematic label 'cougar', which she addressed in a 2009 interview with W magazine.
"I'm certainly not the first person to have a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl," she said (quote via Marie Claire U.K.). "I don't know why that is!"
