It sounds like whoever explained CBT to you did a shitty job. It's not supposed to be about having a positive attitude at all times, it's about recognising when your thoughts are unduly and unhelpfully negative, taking into account your actual circumstances, and learning how to deal with those thoughts.
I have decided to start a blog outlining my own progress with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as providing information for anyone else with an interest in CBT. I started CBT as a way of dealing with depressive episodes as well as learning to better handle my own emotions and problematic ways of thinking and perceiving. Hopefully other people will find this blog helpful and informative.
