HI THERE - My name is AGATHA. I'm looking for my forever home. I am being fostered at our Coconut Hound Haven in Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is White with light Brown markings. My foster mom says I am an AWESOME DOG! AGATHA was found abandoned in a construction site in a box, suffering from worms, minor injuries, ticks, and hunger. She was in very bad shape but very sweet and so happy to be rescued. She was sickly for a long time but managed to pull through. She was one of our first rescues at CHH Las Terrenas, and it is time for her to have a family's love all to herself! AGATHA gets along with other dogs but this can get complicated when her humans enter the picture. Agatha LOVES Humans so much that she can get a bit jealous of other dogs, so she needs to be the ONLY DOG in the home. Her foster mom loves her to pieces but needs to make room for more animals in need. Otherwise she would absolutely be a foster fail. Agatha is just under 2 years old, given the honorary birthday of May 31, 2020, and weighs approximately 36 pounds. Agatha is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed and will be micro-chipped before flying to her forever home. Agatha is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island. Please understand when you are adopting a dog that DCDR relies upon the generosity of Volunteer Travel Companions to bring your new companion to their forever home in Canada. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you! Hola! I'm ALFREDO! A Coconut Hound being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Brown with White. ALFREDO is an abandoned dog who wandered the beaches and streets of Las Terrenas asking for food and caresses. He has always been a dog appreciated by the people who met him for his good character, he was fed a little by everyone but for his good character he was continually attacked by other stray dogs with a much stronger character and did not defend himself. One day I saw him very injured and took him home, then immediately to the vet. He is a dog that has adapted to the house after a couple of days, at first he was a bit wary but then he realized that he had nothing to fear. He has certainly suffered from hunger, like many abandoned dogs, since when he eats he does not allow anyone to come near, otherwise he is a good dog, very playful, has a high sense of protection and is a good guard dog. He gets along well with the other dogs of the house while due to his exuberant character he cannot socialize with the cats I have in the house. My cats are used to other dogs with a calmer character, and for this reason my cats they are frightened. For the moment I do not recommend the presence of cats for possible adoption. The presence of another dog is preferable as Alfredo is active and loves to play with other dogs, he always wants to play with another canine or the family that adopts him must consider dedicating time to play and / or walks. He is not an apartment dog and will not do well in an apartment. He does not dirty inside the house, he needs a large and safe enclosed garden with high protection to run and play. I do not recommend adoption for families with very young children, he is a massive dog with a lot of strength, better for a family of adults. Alfredo has no problems with food, he eats quality croquettes and foods that I cook like rice, pasta with chicken, sardines, liver, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, carrots, courgettes, etc..., always all natural without condiments. Alfredo is used to being inside the house and in the garden. At night he sleeps inside the house, during the day he is free to go to the garden whenever he wants. He doesn't like to go on a leash much but that's okay, he is learning to walk better on one. He will bark if he hears noises he doesn't recognize. He likes to chew the cowhide bones or the cow bones that I buy in the butcher's, cooked. Alfredo is approximately 2 years old (we have given him the honorary birthday of November 1st, 2019) and weighs approximately 48 pounds. Alfredo will be up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and ready to find his forever home. He will be microchipped before flying. Alfredo is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island. Please meet Adorable ARIELA a smaller Coconut Hound Puppy being home-fostered in Las Terrenas, Samana in the Dominican Republic. Her short to medium-haired coat is Light Reddish-Brown and White and she resembles a mini-Golden Retriever in appearance and character. ARIELA was dumped at the local gasoline station and was covered with motoroil and fleas. The guys who were washing cars there took care of her but not enough. She got only chicken bones and a little left over rice or yucca every day She was dirty and hungry. Her rescuer and foster mother brought her to our vet and a good, long bath turned her from dark Brown to the colours you see now! She also got her dewormed and treated for fleas and ticks. ARIELA is an absolute lovebug and wears a constant smile (as you can see in her pictures and video). She loves hanging out with her foster family's other dogs. She is house-trained (and has in/out privileges at her foster home). She has started leash training. Because her mother was likely treated with antibiotics (Doxycyline) when she was pregnant, some of ARIELA's teeth are discoloured but she has no health issues at all. ARIELA has been exposed to other dogs, young children but not yet with cats. ARIELA is approximately 10 months old (we have given her the honorary birthday of June 1, 2021) and weighs approximately 22 pounds. ARIELA is up-to-date on multiple vaccines and spayed and ready to find her forever home. She will be microchipped and registered before flying. ARIELA is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island. HI THERE - I am BINGO and I am being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Creamy Blonde with a Grey/Black snout. BINGO and his two siblings were rescued when a friend of the Haven alerted us to a trio of very little puppies that had been abandoned on the beach and were living in a trash pile. We were able to find them and discovered they were not only skinny, covered in fleas and in poor health, but one of them (now named BINGO) had a nasty injury on his shoulder. We brought them home to the haven to help them heal and recover. Sadly, the one little sister passed away BINGO, the brother with a shoulder injury, is now fully healed and getting bigger every day just like his surviving brother (Bongo). BINGO is approximately 10 months old, given the honorary birthday of May 13, 2021, and weighs approximately 28 pounds. BINGO is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and ready to find his forever home. He will be microchipped before flying. BINGO is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island. Hola! I have a NAME! I have a NAME! Hi my name is Blackie! I am a Coconut Hound being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Black and Tan. I think I'm around 5 years old. I've lived my whole life on a walled property with my friend, a nice female dog who was like my mommy, and another male dog but he and I never got along. I was never off the property, but there were some stairs and a roof area where we would all run up to to see what was happening on the beach. I don't know what happened, but about 6 weeks later my caretaker somehow put me out on the street. The other male dog and I had been fighting again, and I had many wounds on my head and neck. I'm not sure how our caretaker made the mistake of putting me on the street. I went back to the gate many times, crying so the caretaker would know I was there, but he never let me in. I guess he couldn't hear me. After about a week on the street my wounds were infected, and I was so hungry and scared. I heard a voice I recognized at a house near mine, and I started scratching at the gate. This nice lady came out and she brought me food and water and then she sat with me for several hours so I could finally sleep. She treated my wounds, and then later, brought me on to her property and made a nice area for me where I was safe. I knew this lady, as she would talk to me and my sister and brother when she would see us up on the roof. I'm feeling great now and have tried so many new and yummy things to eat! My wounds are all healed, and I've gained weight. The nice lady pets me a lot and tells me how smart and sweet I am. I love it! No one ever pet me before. She also named me Blackie, so I finally have a name! Foster Mom Notes: Blackie is a very sweet and gentle little guy. We don't know his exact age, but think he is around 5 years old. He's around 25 lbs. Blackie is very quiet, but gets vocal when I give him his food or take him for a walk. He doesn't seem to bark at anything much and seems very smart. We have been teaching him to walk on a leash. Blackie has just been neutered and is up to date on all his shots. Blackie should not be in a home with another male dog. I think a smaller female dog would be fine. I have no idea how he is with cats. It would be best if Blackie lived on an enclosed/fenced property, as that is what he is used to. I would be so happy if someone would be able to give Blackie a nice home which he so deserves. Blackie is leash-trained. He lives outside due to aggressiveness of my dog, so he can not be in the house. He has never lived in a home. He does not like to mess in his enclosure, so will be vocal when he needs to go out. I think he would be easy to house train. He was digging under the fence of his enclosure, letting himself out at night and then going back in. We have since secured the bottom with concrete so he can no longer get out. He is very sweet, quiet and gentle. I've found him to be very smart. He enjoys and gets very excited about the different food I give him (he never had anything other than dog food previously). Blackie is approximately 5 years old (we have given him the honorary birthday of January 1st, 2017) and weighs approximately 25 pounds. Blackie will be up-to-date on vaccinations, is neutered and ready to find his forever home. He will be microchipped before flying. Blackie is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island.
