Escape From Brothel Also remember that the Cat III rating is sometimes given out for stuff most people wouldn't find that offensive, like showing "realistic" Triad rituals, swearing, marijuana use, etc. Like the Election movies by Johnnie To are very good, but I wouldn't label them as a "Cat III" moves as such, even though they have that rating.

The film is about So-yeon (Park Min-young), who works at a small pet-grooming shop called Kitty N Puppy. Although geared towards horror movies, CAT III stretched further than this as it included heavy themes of an adult sexual nature, and therefore this category became a genre of cinema within itself.

Category III is sort of like the Hong Kong equivalent to the US's NC-17 except for the fact that there was a good stretch where Cat IIIs were consistently made and commercially viable in HK. Cat IIIs will feature graphic violence or sex most typically.

Just a call out that you may already be aware of: not every Cat III film is disturbing and twisted. Crazy Love is a lighthearted sex comedy for example, it has that rating because of the nudity content, not violence. Great list though. Anything by Billy Tang is great but almost too hard to watch for me and I've always considered myself tough.
