Casino Imperial was a major casino in the Anoat sector during the time of the Republic. It was one of the biggest casinos on Bespin during the days of the Republic. The casino played host to an annual pazaak tournament, called the Imperial Invitational. The tournament was suspended in the semi-final round due to a terrorist plot funded by the Hutt Mongo Gastrohilic Testino. Bombs were placed near the valuable items section of the casino that was used to store high-valued belongings of patrons of the casino. These bombs were neutralized by a bomb squad sent via the Republic. After a week's suspension of play, the tournament resumed without another delay.
Construction
Construction began on Casino Imperial shorty before 1,969 BBY, some twenty years after the colony of Cloud City was established. The Imperial was known as the first casino in the city's entertainment district to break ground and was completed three years later without incident.
The name of the casino is pronounced (Cah-see-noh Im-peer-E-AL). This was a tribute to the casino in the film Casino Royale, which shared the same name as the film title. The three iterations of the actual casino are the Casino Royale Las Vegas, Imperial Palace Hotel and casino and the Luxor Las Vegas; all of which are located on the famed Las Vegas strip. The Harmon Hotel and Spa was designated as the original design of the Imperial, but was canceled in favor of the Luxor.
