You will laugh, but even after the second "breakdown" with a one-volume car, Yuri Dolmatovsky did not give up. The talented and stubborn designer decided to step on the rake of socialist realism for the third time. And again, it all started as if not bad.

Yuri Aronovich infected the specialists of VNIITE (All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Technical Aesthetics) with the absolutely sensible idea of adapting the “monospace” to the needs of a taxi. Based on the experience of operating a taxi on the basis of the usual Volga GAZ-21 and methodically eliminating all its inherent flaws, Dolmatovsky presented the project of the Perspective Taxi.

Needless to say, it was a one-volume car? The driver was sitting in front of the front axle, and the motor was next to the drive wheels, that is, behind. In addition, VNIIET PT also received a fiberglass body, the prospects of which at that time seemed unlimited. The sliding door to the right and the enormous volume of the passenger compartment, in which passengers could sit with their legs crossed, looked no less revolutionary. The advantages of the car include excellent visibility and ease of active use - for example, the simplicity of washing the body and cleaning the passenger compartment, which is very important for a taxi. Finally, the 50-horsepower "Muscovite" motor provided 100 kilometers per hour maximum speed, which were quite adequate for a city taxi. Alas, as in previous cases, Dolmatovsky’s work was praised, and that’s all.

But today, looking at the specialized Nissan NV200 Taxi, strolling along the streets of New York and London, it is difficult not to notice a whole bunch of similarities between the “Japanese” and the Prospective Taxi from VNIITE.

Buying a concept car is almost impossible. And in the vast majority of automobile companies, AutoVzglyad reported that prototypes were never sold. Firstly, it is astronomically expensive - the only one of its kind in the development of which huge amounts of money were invested, piece work. Secondly, it is almost impossible to ride prototypes - they are usually not on the go, buttons do not work. And if they are able to move themselves, then they do not comply with safety standards, and they cannot be controlled in any case.

From dozens and hundreds of factory prototypes that did not fall into our selection, this experimental convertible differs in one fundamental thing. The order for its manufacture came from abroad. According to the official version, Moskvich-408 with a removable hardtop was developed at the request of Scaldia Volga, a European importer of Soviet cars. With such a machine, a company from Belgium hoped to fuel interest in the export of conventional 408s that had begun.

Convertible from a sedan made the easiest way - cutting off all unnecessary. Fortunately, the matter was not limited to the "depletion" of the experimental subjects. The body was strengthened, the extra rear doors were removed, and the front ones were deprived of frames. Moreover, one of the two prototypes built received aluminum body panels and even a motor with a fuel injection system. But the main thing, of course, is design. “Moskvich-408” itself was known as an impressive car, and “Tourist” is generally pure sex. One of the most elegant cars of the USSR, alas, was never honored with serial production.

From the conveyor of the Togliatti giant, the first "pennies" have not yet rolled down, and the designers of VAZ have already thought ahead. In the late 60s, it became clear - automotive Europe is confidently shifting to front-wheel drive. In this sense, the FIAT-124 of the classic layout, selected as the prototype of the VAZ-2101, was among those lagging behind. That is why the vazovtsy saw a promising minicar not only front-wheel, but also front-wheel!

The compact VAZ-E1101, called the Cheburashka for its piercingly pitiful glance of the headlights, was created exclusively by the internal forces of the VAZ and without the participation of foreign specialists. Although, judging by the sketches, the designers were inspired by the style of Austin Mini, Autobianchi A112, Honda N600. But another thing is more important - almost all the VAZ players had to create from scratch. Not only the body, but also the engine (0.9 liter with a return of 50 horsepower), and the gearbox (four-speed). The project fluttered for a long time. "Cheburashka" survived not only to the stage of a driving prototype, but even to an updated body. Restyling for the concept car - it was in the spirit of the Soviet long-term construction. However, it never came to the conveyor.

An original solution to a non-original idea. Easy open car - you want, call it a buggy, you want - a golf cart designed for the Olympics-80, stood out and good looks, and non-trivial engineering solutions. Suffice it to say that the “Pony” was an electric car! Nickel-zinc batteries, weighing 180 kilograms each, the VAZ-1801 had two. One was located in the front block, the other in the back. The power reserve was 110-120 kilometers when traveling at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. But in the end, this patron of the Soviet car dealerships habitually remained only an interesting project.
