A clip of a woman getting into a car she thought was her Uber has gone viral online as a cautionary tale.
Beauty blogger Caroline Burt was live-streaming for her Twitch followers in Los Angeles as she waited for her Uber ride outside.
A car rode up on the side of the road, and she walked to his window and asked if he was there for 'Caroline'.
The driver said ‘yes’, and she climbed into the front seat of the car.
Initially, the man questioned why she was recording and asked her to ‘turn it off'. She told him it wasn’t a recording, it was a livestream.
The driver began making small talk, asking questions about her and where she came from.
Shortly after, the 25-year-old gets a phone call from her Uber driver, and it's at this point she realises the man driving her is not her Uber driver.
Following that revelation, Burt straight up asked the driver if he was an Uber. He said ‘no’, and Caroline demanded he ‘pull over’ the car. He did so, and she jumped out before he mumbles it was a ‘misunderstanding’ and drives off.
I think he was scared because he knew I was recording and he acted accordingly because I also started to try to open the car door while the car was moving and I jumped out.
I couldn’t believe what had just happened to me. All I remember is looking at my Twitch chat and my whole entire chat being like ‘did that really just happen?’
I couldn’t believe it had happened. A random man just let me in his car.
Clip of the incident, which happened in 2017, resurfaced online as people are urging others to be cautious when travelling in a taxi or an unknown vehicle.
