Cape Air Pet Policy: Traveling with Your Furry Friend

William James

Have you ever wondered about the Cape Air Pet Policy? If you're traveling with your furry friend, it's important to know which animals are allowed, what the fees are, and whether or not there are weight restrictions. Keep reading to find out more about the Cape Air Pet Policy and how you can travel with your pet safely.

Adopting a pet for travel companionship

If you want to travel with your furry friend, Fly Cape Air lets you bring pets in both cabin and cargo compartments. Dogs under 20 pounds are allowed in any cabin seat as long as they are well-behaved, not prone to biting and have been vaccinated for rabies at least 30 days prior to travel. Pets that have an unfriendly disposition towards other passengers or cannot be properly contained will not be permitted in cabins. Smaller pets may also ride outside of cargo compartments for an additional fee, depending on their breed and size.

Tips to make traveling easier

Before you hit the books, make sure your pet meets all of Cape Air’s requirements. You will need to pay a $50 service fee and a $25 flight fee, as well as document that your pet is up-to-date on all its shots. If you plan to travel with multiple pets on one flight, call Cape Air Contact Number at 1-800-CAPE AIR (+1-888-801-0869) for approval first. You may have to wait for an available seat or change your itinerary to accommodate everyone; do so if necessary. Be aware that pets may not be permitted in or near first class due to potential allergies—but there are plenty of other spots for them throughout every aircraft.

Preparing your Cape Air Pet Policy

Cape Air has a policy of allowing one pet per person on all flights. And while there’s no extra charge for your furry friend, there are a few guidelines you’ll need to follow to make sure both you and your pet get where you’re going safely. First and foremost, Cape Flying requires that all pets be at least eight weeks old. If your dog or cat isn’t fully weaned yet, they won’t be allowed on board. You should also make sure your pet is up-to-date on its rabies vaccination; dogs must have a licensed veterinarian administer their shots at least 21 days before travel. After all, Cape Air doesn't want any animal onboard biting anyone else!

Planning in advance

If you're flying to Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard, chances are good that you'll want to bring along your pet—especially if they need to fly in the cabin. In fact, pets traveling in cabins on Cape Air do not need a Cape Air Reservation; they just need a carrier that fits under your seat. But what happens if you and your dog or cat are Cape Flying together but connecting through Boston? Here is the Cape Air Policy for connecting pets: If a customer wishes to connect in Boston and have their pet with them at all times during travel, an arrangement must be made ahead of time by calling Cape Air Reservations at +1-888-801-0869.

Bringing your pet into the cabin

Dogs, cats and other household pets can travel in your cabin on most Cape Air flights at no charge. You will need to bring a valid rabies certificate issued within 4 months of travel. Because of limited space, pets are not allowed on-board during busy travel periods including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Spring Break. Cape Flying through Logan Airport? Here are some tips.

If you’re traveling through Logan Airport and plan on bringing your furry friend, Fly Cape Air can help make your trip easy. All pets under 25 pounds are allowed on board flights at no additional cost to you. Pets must be kept in a carrying case, pet carrier or crate that can be stowed underneath a seat or in an overhead compartment throughout travel. (Remember, there is a 30-pound weight limit per airline regulations.) The case must be large enough for your pet to sit, stand and turn around comfortably. Cape Planes will not fly animals that cannot fit comfortably in their carrying cases or those whose temperament may pose a threat to other passengers. For example, Cape Air will not transport emotional support dogs unless they are certified by recognized organizations such as Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Did you know? All pets fly free on Cape Air Flights!

That’s right! Cape Air Pet Policy is simple: pets are allowed on board, in your lap or in a crate that fits under your seat. As long as they’re nice and quiet, that is. Pets traveling without crates are permitted on flights originating at Nantucket Memorial Airport between April 15 and December 20; pets are not permitted to travel on flights departing Nantucket Memorial Airport between December 21 and April 14 unless they have completed a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of departure date or proof of current vaccinations against rabies and distemper/parvo virus. Proof must be presented to airport personnel when Check in Cape Air.
