📹 CapCut

CapCut is not only the most popular video editor app on Google Play and the App Store, but also a web service with many great features, including free video enhancement (AI Upscale). CapCut is produced by ByteDance Ltd, the same company that owns TikTok.

Here are some pros and cons of AI Video Upscale from Capcut:

✔️ It’s free, which sets it apart from many other online AI video enhancement services. Most of them charge a fee because AI video processing requires a lot of computing resources.

✔️ It lets you upload long videos as well.

➖ It can take a long time to process your videos, depending on the resolution and file size. The higher the resolution and file size of the original video, the longer the processing time.

➖ It requires you to keep the web page open during the processing. You cannot just upload a video to your CapСut account and come back later to download the enhanced version. If you close the page or lose the internet connection, the processing may stop and you will have to start over.

➖ Sometimes the processing may end with an error and fail to complete.

➖ Based on our experience, the AI Video Upscale feature in Capcut is only practical for short videos with low resolution (< 720p) and up to several minutes in length, or very short videos (up to a minute) with higher resolution. For longer videos the processing time will be too long and the risk of failure will be higher.

➖ Capcut tries to make the videos look less pixelated than the low-resolution originals, but the quality of enhancement and recovering details is not very impressive.

➖ The “Before and After” examples shown on this page are obviously fake.

❗️ Capcut website is only accessible via VPN in some countries.

If you are looking for a better alternative, you can try @PhotoFixerBot. It can now enhance not only photos, but also videos, without limitations. However, please note that the video processing time can be significant (up to several hours), depending on the video size and server load. Nevertheless, you can rest assured that your video will be processed regardless, as long as you have sufficient balance, and with much better quality than using Capcut.

Pros and cons of CapCut in general:

✔️ No advertising, which is rare for a free app.

✔️ Free, powerful video editing capabilities.

✔️ A lot of trending free AI filters, effects, and transitions that can be added to the video.

✔️ Varied library of stock sounds and animations, licensed songs.

✔️ Almost all features are free to use.

✔️ Variety of templates.

✔️ It is available on Google Play and App Store, as well as PC and browser, so you can use it on different devices and platforms.

Cons:

➖ Good for basic to average video editing rather than for professional or advanced editing.

➖ Advanced AI features like video and photo enhancement are not so good.

➖ Only works in portrait orientation.

CapCut also has some popular photo editing features, such as:

1. Removing the background from images and applying filters.

2. Image enhancement (however, it works even worse than Remini enhancement when compared).

3. Generating advertising posters with a photo of your product.

4. Generating images based on a text query. However, it doesn't work as well as top AI models such as DALL·E 3, MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, etc. We will look at the text-to-image generation services in more detail in future articles.

General conclusion:

Capcut is a suitable app for making and editing short videos for free, especially for social media and casual purposes. It has many useful and fun features, including AI filters and effects. However, it is not the best app for enhancing the quality of your videos or photos, or for professional editing.
