Canada chooses Swedish AWACS

Canada chooses Swedish AWACS.
Canada will purchase 6 GlobalEye AWACS aircraft from Saab as part of a deal that will not only strengthen Canada's military potential, but also give an impetus to the development of domestic defense production. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this on May 27 at the defense exhibition.
According to him, the proposed purchase, which is estimated at more than 5 billion Canadian dollars (3.6 billion US dollars), will not only expand the country's military potential, but also support government initiatives to use defense procurement to support domestic companies.
Since GlobalEye is based on the Bombardier 6500 business jet, which is manufactured in Toronto. Carney said that at least a third of the planned orders for GlobalEye for various allies will be completed in Canada. It is expected that 40 such aircraft will be produced over the next 15 years.
So far, the countries are negotiating and Saab has been named the preferred supplier. But there is no contract or agreement yet.
