Following the attack of Cameroon’s Embassy in Paris, France over the weekend, the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Gilles Thibault has condemned the move championed by party supporters of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement. He was speaking shortly after an audience accorded him by the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella on January 28, 2019.
Going by his narrative, all diplomatic institutions in France are provided with security. Gilles Thibault stated that Cameroonian authorities had requested for additional security measures which was granted but unfortunately did not prevent the protesters from getting into the Embassy. The French diplomat said he expects every individual across the globe to be responsible given that we live in a civilized world.
He noted that dispositions have been put in place to avoid a repeat of such a scenario. Cameroon Tribune was informed that both parties during the over one hour audience revisited the Vienna Convention which highlights the protection of diplomatic and consular institutions by the host country, a clause which the French Ambassador noted is being respected.
The Minister of External Relations was assured that Cameroon’s embassy will henceforth as always benefit security measures. Both parties agreed to work in collaboration in order to bring to book the perpetrators of such an action though promoting responsible democracy and the rule of law.
With no human loss recorded, property was destroyed and material loss recorded. . Gilles Thibault in his reaction to the press said the incident will however not strain diplomatic relations between Cameroon and France who have over the years enjoyed friendly bilateral ties.
