Hi, my name is Erica Montley and I am a photographer from the bay area. While most of my work is still images, I do dabble is some video work. Most of my kit includes cameras I already own and I use the Rode's vloggers kit when I want to record videos. As good as the rode stuff is, it is still difficult to manage in the field. There is too many wires and batteries to maintain. I am a solo artist and work by myself. I do not have a team of cameramen to do the recording for me.
After years of photography work, I first heard of the solocam last year just after I had won the World Photography Award and I had started to do more video work in addition to my usual photography shoots. Realizing that I did not have to use my Mirrorless cameras to record videos, I was intrigued that I could use my smartphone to capture video and amazing sound. The solocam enables me to use my smartphone as a one person video creator without any hassle and complicated setups. The hardest part of making good videos is not the visuals. It is capturing great sound and the closer the microphone is to the subject, the better it is for making great videos. Smartphone cameras are good enough to capture pictures and videos that will go on social media.
I have been using the solocam to make great videos in addition to the images I already capture. Althought it is marketed as a selfie stick, think of it as more of a moving tripod where the microphone stays in front of you at all times. It also means that you can keep your DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras for your photography and quickly use your smartphone for making videos without disrupting your setup. The audio quality captured by the bluetooth mic is very good and the App makes it a breeze to press the record/capture buttons. I would gladly recommend this if you want to make easy videos with great sound quality.

OK. I was super stoked to get this in the mail. I followed the instructions to the T. I turned it on at home it came right on,No problems. I am in the duck blind. I set up ,get the Tactical on the easy to use (but a lot of different tools) Gun Mount. I go to turn it on and NOTHING. Now I didn't bang this thing around or anything like that prior to getting to the spot. So 3 Stars. Amazon has since sent me another that appears to be working (again. At Home) I will give it 5 Stars if it works well this time. I used Amazon Customer Service, Not Tactacam.
Good video footage but cant seem to get my volume to work....( might be a good thing though lol)
The zoom is great, no issues so far good quality, what you see is what you get not like go pro where thing are smaller then they really are.

Update: outdoor motion detection has been very good and I’m pleasantly surprised how far the camera can be from my WiFi and still connect. I have found out to not use cheap batteries because they don’t last long enough. Image quality while zoomed in is poor, but to be expected with digital zoom. I’ve been using this primarily to view different areas of the house using live view as opposed to recording. Right now it is monitoring my sump pump so I can see what’s going on in the basement without going into the creepiest place in the house. The app is decent, but I wish it could load faster. Camera was easy to setup and connect. Inside motion detection has been okay. I’ll update this one I try it outside. Battery life has been fine so far. Good picture quality.
The camera requires a WiFi router to connect to a phone, so even though it runs on a battery and comes with a tree strap, it's really not useful to record events at a remote location unless you want to take it home and see what it recorded via your home WiFi. You can't see or change any settings without a WiFi router either, so once you set it up out of WiFi range, you have to hope that it's doing what you want. Direct connection to a phone would make it 100x more useful. The motion detection does not seem to work through a window. I set the PIR to its highest sensitivity, which is supposed to be 9 meters for people, but the camera did not detect me at 4 meters from my window in full daylight. On the plus side, the daylight picture quality seems good, the app runs well on Android, and I was able to reach a helpful support technician at Uniden quickly.
Battery life is abysmal....do yourself a favor if you insist on buying this camera, invest in rechargeable batteries.

Great picture and video features, but I am a little disappointed with battery life. I'm going to see if a different brand work's better than the ones that came with the camera.
