A huge amount of cocaine has been seized from two separate boats off the coast of Cornwall. Police officers believed the groups were trying to smuggle Class A drugs into the country - and are not currently believed to be linked to one another. The force was apprehending a fishing vessel in Newquay and an even smaller RIB in Sennen, currently being treated as unconnected. Officers seized an estimated tonne of cocaine from a vessel named Lilly Lola on the north coast and meanwhile around kg of the drug was taken from a different boat at Sennen. The first vessel was stopped at sea by Border Force officers who found a huge volume of cocaine which was being brought into the country. The NCA has said the four men on board were arrested on suspicion of importing class-A drugs. They were brought into police custody for questioning by NCA investigators and the haul of drugs seized. Derek Evans, NCA branch commander, said: ' This is a significant amount of cocaine that will represent a huge loss for the organised crime group that attempted to import it into the UK. Its onward supply would have fuelled exploitation through county lines activity as well as serious violence and knife crime. Our investigation into this importation continues. Members of the public were surprised to see what they believed was a second operation off the coast of Sennen that same afternoon. In the nearby car park, they spotted officers from Devon and Cornwall Police. Others explained that they had seen the RIB intercepted at sea and escorted to the beach on that afternoon at around 3pm. All the men are in police custody, where they will be interviewed by investigators. NCA officers continue to carry out enquiries in the area. Devon and Cornwall Police are assisting and providing reassurance to the local community. It is not yet clear if any charges have been brought to the three arrested over the operation in Sennen.
