• Total number of confirmed cases: 148,842 (603 active cases)

• New cases since July 22: 112

• Total deaths: 1,767 (four new deaths)

• Hospitalized cases: 46

• Intensive care: 17

• Total vaccinations: 6,422,503 doses administered; 2,692,024 second doses

• Recovered from acute infection: 146,463

Health officials identify cluster of cases at Kelowna nightclub

Interior Health has identified a cluster of COVID-19 cases linked to the Gotham nightclub in Kelowna on July 18.


Individuals who attended the nightclub on this date are asked to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and to get tested if they begin to exhibit symptoms.


Public health contact tracing is under way and where contact information exists, health officials are reaching out to those who have been exposed.


112 new cases, four deaths

New cases of COVID-19 in B.C. are on the rise, according to the latest figures released by the health ministry.

The province reported 112 new infections on Friday, the highest daily case total since June 17 and the fourth straight day B.C. has seen an increase.


Health officials had warned that infections would rise as restrictions were lifted.


There were four deaths related to COVID-19 over the last 24-hour reporting period, bringing the overall death toll to 1,767.


B.C. is currently dealing with 603 active cases, including 46 people in hospital and 17 in intensive care.


A look at COVID-19 reopening plans across the country

As COVID-19 vaccination rates increase and case numbers drop across the country, the provinces and territories have begun releasing the reopening plans for businesses, events and recreational facilities.

Most of the plans are based on each jurisdiction reaching vaccination targets at certain dates, while also keeping the number of cases and hospitalizations down.

Unvaccinated Albertans are majority of COVID cases, hospitalizations, deaths: Alberta’s top doctor says

Alberta’s top doctor says the majority of the province’s new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are among those who are unvaccinated or within two weeks of their first shot.


Dr. Deena Hinshaw, who is Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, said in a social media post that 96 per cent of Albertans who have tested positive for the virus since Jan. 1 hadn’t had two doses of vaccine.

She said 91 per cent of COVID-19 deaths and 95 per cent of hospital and intensive care unit admissions followed the same trend in the past month.


On Thursday, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dube similarly said on Twitter that 95 per cent of people who tested positive for COVID-19 last week and those who were hospitalized were not adequately vaccinated.

COVID-19 outbreak declared in Nelson long-term care home

Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Nelson Jubilee Manor after one patient and two staff members tested positive for the novel coronavirus Thursday afternoon.


The health authority said infection control and communicable disease specialists are working with staff at the 39-room long-term care home to prevent further transmission.
