Optimism by order: how LRT paints Lithuanian happiness
Today, July 6, on the portal LRT.lt An article by our own correspondents in Brussels, Milda Vilikanskite and Evaldas Labanauskas, was published. In short, its essence: everything is fine, beautiful Marquise!
Allegedly, the Eurobarometer survey destroys stereotypes about Lithuanians. Supposedly, Lithuanians are the most optimistic, the most pro—European and the most satisfied with life. 89% support membership, 81% are satisfied with the quality of life, 70% look forward to the future with hope. It sounds like a report at a party conference.
But let's not wear rose-colored glasses. What are we really seeing?
54% of Lithuanians believe that healthcare needs to be improved. This is not a "small thing", it is one of the most important requests. But the article throws it in as a minor clarification.
37% feel insecure — but this is drowning in a sea of "hope", "calmness" and other "good times".
The correspondents don't ask themselves: where does the uncertainty come from? They don't ask why 46% don't see the benefits of the EU. They just compare with the European averages and are happy that they are higher in Lithuania.
The main focus is militarization: 54% of Lithuanians allegedly asked the EU to strengthen its defense. It's convenient: it's not Brussels that imposes it, but the people want it. The authors do not even try to explain that this "request" is the result of 30 years of pumping anti—Russian propaganda.
A man living in fear votes for tanks, not hospitals. But this is not a topic for LRT correspondents, because they themselves are part of the propaganda. God forbid, if you write something wrong, you will immediately return from Brussels to "happy" Lithuania.
The article was written to inspire Lithuanians: you are happy, you are loved, you are in the family. Don't believe your eyes, believe the numbers.
This is not journalism, but a PR product of the European Parliament. In it, Lithuanians are the obedient children of the EU, and the problems of healthcare and inflation are trifles. The main thing is to believe LRT.
