What should I bring? Please bring your own backpack with ski carrying system. Please ensure you have adequate Off Piste mountain rescue insurance. A typical day off piste skiing with Piste To Powder:. In St. You will meet your guide who will explain the plans for the day and provide you with safety equipment if you have requested this. We will headout at 9 am. Your guide will do a safety talk on the mountain and you will have a chance to practice with your transceiver. The fun then begins as your guide will take you to the best off piste snow and terrain for your ability. You will receive some technique guidance — the most in the lower level groups in order to improve your skill in the off piste. Much of the Off Piste is lift accessed but there may be some short hikes minutes to get you to the best powder — for these hikes you will use your rucksack to carry your skis which is why you need the ski carry straps. If you have skins and touring skis you are also welcome to use these in any of our groups. We will stop for a delicious lunch at a carefully selected mountain restaurant if requested and if it fits to the planned Off Piste routes. Then we have time for a few more Off Piste runs before returning at ca, 3. If you are touring then you may want to bring an extra sandwich and snacks. To get the best out of your day and ensure you are in the right group for you please assess your skill level here. How do I book? Booking is very easy — simply fill in the enquiry form and we will send you a guiding offer and a link to pay a deposit online. You can also email us on info pistetopowder. Will my insurance cover me for accident rescue off-piste? Typical holiday ski insurances usually cover off-piste skiing with a qualified guide. Check before departure, if not you can get coverage at our associated sport store Jennewein or join the Austrian Alpine Club or with our Piste To Powder Club. Please note you will still need travel insurance and you should read the AWS document carefully to see if you need to take out any additional insurance. Are goggles and a helmet important for off-piste riding? Ski goggles are a must for off-piste skiing. They enhance visibility in flat or dull light, foggy conditions, during snowfall and at high speeds. What is included in the guided day price? Full day guiding 6 hours — Or Half Day 3 or 4 hours. Weekly Social meet ups, recommendations on best places to eat and on all aspects of your holiday from our friendly booking team. Lift Pass, Safety gear can be rent for a small fee directly in the morning from your guide , lunch on the mountain in one of the many beautiful Alberg huts and restaurants touring groups can bring packed lunch , drinks bring water and snacks. Can skiers and snowboarders ride in the same group? Of course! Ski friends may join the snowboard group. I am a snowboarder, can I join an open group? This is because snowboarders require different terrain avoiding long traverses etc and it can affect the dynamics of the group. You may of course team up with other snowboarders to share the cost and we do run a wait list to help this — so just ask us! Do I need an ABS bag? We do recommend ABS bags for skiing Off Piste but they are not mandatory and it is very much personal choice. If you do wish to use one then these can be rented from our partners Jennewein. Can I use my own transceiver? Do I have to make a deposit? Yes, in order to book in advance, we ask for a deposit payment to confirm your booking. You can pay quickly and simply online by credit card or bank transfer. You will then receive a booking confirmation. We ask you to pay the balance in cash to your guide on your first skiing day. Your deposit is protected by our flexible booking promise — if you need to change or cancel your booking we offer free cancellation if you give us 48 hours or more notice before guiding starts or for all packages with a minimum of 14 days notice our full terms are here. Where can I rent equipment? You can rent equipment such as ABS packs, Off Piste, touring skis or split boards just next door to our meeting place at Jennewein Sports. Online rental is possible here. What type of ski should I use? Off piste skis are wider than carving skis, they float on top of loose snow and turn easier. We recommend skis at least 90mm wide at the center below your foot. For entry level skiers head height is recommended, more advanced riders can choose a longer ski. We recommend Black Crow range — choose a lighter ski for touring. Beginner Off Piste and lightweight skiers will benefit from a ski with a softer flex. These skis are more forgiving, help you make quick progress and mean less fatigue after a long day of skiing. If your skis are too stiff, they are hard to turn and can affect your technique. An advanced and powerful skier can use a stiffer ski. A stiffer ski also provides more support for heavier skiers and more stability at higher speeds. However, it takes more strength and endurance to ride a stiff ski. Our partner Jennewein Sports, next door to where we meet are able to advise you what type of Off Piste ski you need. Please let them know what level you are. Beginner — Advanced Off Piste. What happens if the weather is bad - will you cancel the guiding? We ski in all conditions, sunshine, powder, low visibility, spring slush. We will only cancel your guiding if there is a risk for your safety such as Avalanche risk 5 or in for example full rain where you will be drenched and miserable as will we! Snowy conditions are often the best days for powder and your guides are trained to find you the best runs for visibility and ensure safety for the prevailing the conditions. Good idea to carry a small set of goggles in your bag in case of damage or full face plant! Can I go heli-skiing with you guys? Helisking is an unforgettable experience in the Arlberg. The small heli whisks you to the summit for a quick photo opportunity before descending through powder, to the beautiful village of Zug. The run itself is about an hour, and you need to be a Level skier for the terrain. After lunch in one of the lovely mountain restaurants, we will do a few more Off piste runs before returning to St Anton around 3. There is a maximum of 4 in the helicopter so larger groups require 2 helis. Please note that we depend on the helicopter company and on flying conditions. Three days ahead of your booking we can inform you if the trip is possible but only on the actual day will it be confirmed. However if we do not Heliski we will design the day for you to give you the best off piste runs. And you will of course not be charged for the helicopter. Will there be a refund if I cancel my trip? If you have to cancel your trip, let us know as soon as possible. We are flexible and you will be refunded if you cancel early enough:. Our full terms are here. Please note that we only cancel guiding in extreme conditions such as Avalanche risk 5 when the resort is closed, or for example if it is raining heavily. So if it is overcast, or snowing on your guiding day please do not expect to be refunded! If groups arrive with fewer people than booked you will be charged the full amount unless you have notified us at least 48 hours before. I would like to ski Valluga - when is it possible? If the conditions are right and there is good visibility, and you can demonstrate Off piste ability Level 3 or more, then it is possible to ski Valluga in a small PRIVATE group maximum 4. While the North face is often talked about, the lesser known and more adventurous and scenic Valluga West is also a good option. The hut is accessible from Ischgl combining lifts and an Off Piste run to the hut. What Avalanche safety courses do you offer? Powered by. Another great year We have been skiing with piste to powder for a couple of years now, and at the end of every trip we say it would be impossible to have a better one. Yet, they keep getting better. We skied slopes we hadn't done before and eventhough it was busy and we thought it would be impossible to find good untracked snow, the guides were always able to find untouched galleys with perfect snow conditions. It is the perfect way to make the most out of a good skiing holiday and we will definitely do it again next season. Make the most of your days in the mountain If you wan't to experience the most amazing skiing day ever Piste to Powder is the company to see. They have experienced and knowledgeable guides that know the area by heart. If you love to go off piste, don't miss a day with Piste to Powder! Awesome experience I figured that if I was going to travel all the way from California to St Anton to ski, I wanted to get the most out of the experience. After spending my first day on the piste with long lines, crowded slopes and spending far too much time looking at the map, I was anxious to get off-piste and away from the crowds. I decided to join an open group level 2 with Piste to Powder and was rewarded with incredible scenery, endless fresh tracks on open bowls and a great guide Bernie who knew the mountain well and took us to the best spots that I certainly would never have found or ventured to on my own. I'll admit that a couple of the drop ins and traverses made me go weak at the knees at first glance, but Bernie instilled confidence and was very patient. I enjoyed the small group experience and comradery of like minded skiiers. We were all exhausted at the end of the day but were on a high from the experience. I highly recommend this organization and would go with them again in a heartbeat if I'm ever back in the area. Snow still wasn't deep but the guide found us fun off-piste skiing with some fresh powder. It was so much fun and we went to places I could never find on my own. So I signed up for the whole week and it was the best decision I could have made! Tomas took us over the mountains, down the valleys and through the trees in search for untouched powder and we found loads of it. He was extremely professional and I felt safe at all times with him. Being guided the whole week made all the other expenses of the trip so much more worthwhile. Evan F. We spend a week in Austria and booked 2 days with Piste to Powder. We had such a good experience in the first 2 days, we booked a third. If you want to explore the mountain and ski off piste, this is the way to go. We had an incredible experience. We spent three days with Flo which was amazing, but others in our group had different guides and all had an amazing experience. It made us all want to make it a yearly trip and we will definitely be booking again with piste to powder when we return to the region. Technique tuition, safety advice and excellent route selection. Arden R. Best guide in St Anton Amazing guide service. Was so nice to get off the crowded and icy pistes, and our guide Flo was constantly checking the weather and guiding us to the best snow among the many back country options in St Anton. Reed A. My experience with Emi was like no other. It was out of this world. His knowledge of the mountain terrain, incoming and passing weather conditions to allow us to find the best spots was amazing. Emi was great with my go pro always making sure it was filming and in the right position for me to capture this day. His positivity and attitude puts him at the top of my experiences. This was the eight time that we were instructed and guided by Geli and it was as always, we learned again, we made great trips, safely en joyfully guided by Geli. We'll be back next year! Christian M. The technique training with Geli prepared me perfectly for the upcoming season. Very professionally organized. Together with a great team we had a lot of fun that day whilst improving our skills. Geli had a lot of good tips for us - really looking forward to putting them into practice. Sehr abwechslungsreiche Skitour. Unser Guide Tom hat sich super ausgekannt und hat unsere Tour so gelegt, dass wir trotz allgemeinem Schneemangel noch gute Bedingungen vorgefunden haben. Sehr gerne wieder! Another side of St. Anton with Piste to Powder We had two excellent days skiing the St. Anton backcountry with Flo who is both very competent and a fantastic guy. Finding fresh tracks for almost every run in a popular place like St. Anton is really impressive and he was really skilled at matching the objectives to the ambitions and skills of t - Maximillian A. Florian is a legend!! Definitely recommend - they gave us an unforgettable trip! Amazing Experience Absolutely outstanding, professional and knowledgeable guides. They took us to some amazing places we never would have found on our own and made us feel safe the whole time. While the conditions looked dodgy at first, we wound up finding some great little nooks. The last day where we spent most of our time on Randl, was one of the best ski days I have ever had in my life - Marc L. Had the best guided day-tours ever. Very well organized and flexible company! If you're an experienced ski tourer ask for Moritz, he's helped me progress in the sport faster than I ever have and we got some sweet lines in. Highly recommend PTP - Outstanding week! Great company to work with. Tom is the absolute BEST. Frederik B. Our guide Stefan was excellent and very aware of reading the risk levels throughout the day. We got some amazing lines and Stefan was very professional and easy to talk to and guided us away from some of the riskier places. The booking process and payment process was all very easy. Would definitely recommend to all. We will definitely come back next year. Thank you! We hired a guide from Piste to Powder for our first day, hoping to get a sense of the various areas and where to find the best skiing. With high winds leading to various lift closures, Rupi managed to find us plenty of great terrain in Zurs and St Anton, not to mention a fantastic lunch spot in St Christoph. His local knowledge was indispensable and his winsome manner marvelous! Karen M. Guides to ensure the perfect adventure Piste to Powder handled all the details and ensured an amazing adventure week with just the right pace and fabulous lunch spots. Our guide Florian was a pleasure to be with and was flexible, moving things around in the week to ensure the right activities with the right weather. We would follow him anywhere- and we did. Great week. Thanks to Zoe for handling so many behind the scenes details with our dinner reservations and paragliding and even grabbing us something back in St Anton. We would most definitely utilize Piste to Powder again. Timm A. Rupi hat aus einem wetterbedingt schlechten Tag das beste herausgeholt. Insgesamt ist die Ortskenntnisse der Guides hervorzuheben. Das war definitiv nicht unsere letzte Buchung bei euch. Kendall B. Florian was our guide for a week as we skied between Lech and St. He was incredible! Not only was he professional and clearly extremely experienced, his personality was also well matched for our family. He did a great job at accommodating the different skill levels within our group and was always encouraging. Peter W. Florian and Christoff turned a good ski vacation into a great one! For North American skiers where off piste is still in bounds , these guys are essential to get to experience the whole resort. They not only know how to find the best snow but also are experts at managing the crowds on the hill. The wise and experienced guiding of Piste to Powder allows a full enjoyment of the mountain. It is when conditions are tricky that a good guide makes the difference. Ross W. Just had an epic day with Tom and piste to powder. Got to see some fantastic spots and fresh tracks most of the day. Will be signing up again tomorrow! Recommend the group guiding sessions if by yourself and not wanting to fork out for a private guiding day that seems to be the only option of most of the companies. Amazing day in Arlberg Incredible experience with Piste to Powder right from the first phone call. Zoe was encouraging and spoke English well. She followed up with me and set me up with my guide Stefan. Stefan was awesome. He crafted our tour to my abilities and was knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. It felt like spending the day ski touring with a friend. We climbed and skied a completely untouched route that was spectacular. Thank you again! With the conditons at the moment I did not expect much, but I was positively surprised! Tom is a very good guide who knows the moutain very well. He managed to find some very nice runs with good snow and fresh tracks in theese challenging conditons. As a solo traveller Piste to Powder gave my the chance to join a different group every day instead of paying for a private guide. It's also a nice way to meet other people from around the world who are into skiing. I went on a skitour with Stefan, who is a nice, friendly and calm guide. Later on I also joined the off piste technique course which I can recommand to everybody! Too finish my stay in Sankt Anton Magnus guided the way up the Arlberg winter ferrata. A cool small adventure. We used our spare time to do some off piste descends, finding and riding untracked powder. Magnus gave me a run for my money as my legs were completely empty at the end of the day! Tommi S. Had a great guided snowboard off piste day with Thomas. Reservation was super easy and all emails etc. Thanks for a great day! Steven N. I have been skiing with Piste to Powder multiple times. It is a great way to access the mountain with very professional and qualified guides at an affordable price. Safety was at the forefront at all times. Also, social, fun and easy to book the small groups that are dedicated to your ability. Joshua D. Great experience with Matthias. We only went for three hours, but was amazing what you can do in a short amount of time. Great to have someone knowledgeable that you can trust. Fully recommend.
