Re: A, A - road condition Post by cristiano » Wed May 17, am I took A aktobe-kandyagash-dossor last august, from aktobe to mukur. First km from aktobe, not bad. Then, almost no road: only option was to ride in the sandy side tracks in the steppe. Re: A, A - road condition Post by KyHi » Sun Jul 09, am Drove A27 between Aktobe and Mukur, then a small track eastwards to Qulsary, in June With one minor exception there was absolutely no sign of constructionwork Aktobe - Bayganin: decent road, bumpy but no potholes. Tracks very good when dry. Stay on side tracks. Nukus - Qulsary: real pile of crap. Road undriveable for anything but a tank. Sidetracks sometimes good, often bad, sometimes terrible. Probably undriveable when wet, adventerous in any non-4WD. No gas stations, almost no other cars. Extremely fine chalk-dust that gets absolutely everywhere! Seal everything you got and expect to clean your gear for at least 5 hours afterwards. All in all: going via Oralsk is longer, but faster. Via Nukus is much more adventerous, though tough on cars and people. The caravanistan driving page for kazakhstan says it has been upgraded and is in a good state but all the locals here in Aktobe are saying don't do it, its awful! Just wondering if anyone has any recent first hand experience of the road condition? It took me two days. Dossor - Makat : the road is ok. Lot of potholes. Sometimes it's better to take the track on the side but it's sandy. A little bit better at the end near Bayganin. Re: A, A - road condition Aqtau - Aqtobe Post by cristiano » Fri Jul 13, pm thanks, so, same as in some pictures here of the stretch from Aqtobe until Mukur, then we went even more offroad.. That has helped us make our route decision for today! I don't think our heavily laden road bike will enjoy the A much - we'll head to Uralsk then south. Aktobe - Kandyagash There's a new dual carriageway buying built. Western carriageway is mostly open, with the exception of Bestamak and Alga where you have to cross the centre of these settlements on a very a bumpy and potholed road. It looks like there will be bypasses of these villages. Further south there are a few short diversions from the western carriageway through the fields as they are building bridges or overpasses. The final 5 km to the junction with A in Kandyagash is bad. Again they seem to be building a bypass of the town. I hitched it with a car, it took one hour from the southern outskirts of Aktobe to Kandyagash. Kandyagash - Dosser New road all the way with the exception of the first few kilometres in Kandyagash. The new asphalt starts probably where the bypass will end. It's a single carriageway road with one lane in each direction. It bypasses all towns. The bypass of Makat is a bit wavy, there are no pot holes but kind of longer waves which makes the car go up and down. It took 4 hours to hitch this road with a stopover for a chay.
