Ed is also on the faculty of Oaksterdam University, the leading trade school for the cannabis industry. His classes teach pupils how different techniques can be used to improve the yield and efficiency of their gardens. Ed has always been driven by a desire to develop innovative, effective, and non-toxic methods of gardening. He was one of the original American writers to travel to Holland, bringing the knowledge and sophistication of European horticulture to the U. While his career has focused on marijuana cultivation, he is an avid gardener of edible plants and flowers as well. Ultimately, Ed believes that no matter the plant, a gardener should never be forced to resort to using potentially dangerous means in order to enjoy a bountiful harvest. Beyond the garden, Ed views marijuana law as a crucial social issue and has been active in promoting and developing policies of civil regulation. In he was tried in Federal Court for cultivation in a trial where the jury was not allowed to hear that he was deputized by the City of Oakland to provide marijuana for patients. His trial shifted public opinion in favor of state medical marijuana laws. Verified Purchase. I work in the industry and this is a great learning tool for people trying to get into the processing side of cannabis. Highly recommended. Beyond Buds is a comprehensive introduction to cannabis essential oils, processing, and alternative delivery methods. This book offers a definitive overview of cannabis concentrates and their current state within the cannabis industry and emerging markets, providing and wide audience of readers with both a compelling resource, as well as a source of inspiration for iterations and continued development. For the industry veteran and die-hard wook, Beyond Buds serves as a brief yet invaluable reference, index, and basis for research for cannabis concentrates. Beyond Buds sheds positive light on a largely mis-understood culture, striking a fine balance between readability and mass distribution, and acceptance by a sometimes brutally critical following and community. Contrary to some criticisms, I am of the opinion that referencing online mediums is beneficial in this case, particularly if the book is treated as a foundation, because the greater cannabis knowledge base is now expanding so rapidly. For example, a book published on the topic in would seem incomplete and out-of-date already. Beyond buds will stand the test of time as the go-to handbook for cannabis essential oils. Very informative and a great addition to your personal library! Some background. I live in a legal state, and have been in the industry. This book is interesting. It is more of an introduction to extracts for people without much prior knowledge on cannabis. Unfortunately, there were several claims that just aren't supported by science and it would have been nice for to add citations. Marijuana is a great medicine, but exaggerating claims hurts its potential. In addition, there are multiple advertisements, which is unfortunate as it can limit the writer's objectivity. In conclusion: I'm not sure how to recommend this book as I think it hurts to tell people incorrect information, but on the other hand, there was a significant amount of good information--especially for beginners--in this book. Glad I got book, but was a little more than i bargained for! You get some of that of course, but This goes into great detail, including extraction techniques. If you need all that, that is included too. However as all collectors of books on the field know, Ed Rosenthal along with one specific other person I'm thinking of, are the absolute authority on everything related to subject matter and have been a long time. So anyone new to concentrate looking to learn this isn't a beginners book. However if you like to study in detail or are already educated on the subject and trying to further your knowledge, take to next level, this book is for you. I generally enjoy my Rosenthal books to the fullest. But i usually know more regarding subject matter. Will learn to love book in time, just more than I expected. Not saying not to buy. Just know it's not a beginners how to as many in Colorado may be looking for. The formatting is all messed up, it shows double pages and unable to enlarge the text or the screen to peruse the photos. I hold Mr. Rosenthal in very high esteem and I'm truly ashamed to give it only one star. However, I'm doing this only because of the formatting issue, I wish I could give it the full five stars I want to. I will be buying a physical paperback copy soon and cannot wait to read it. Whoever was responsible for digitizing Mr. Rosenthal's book needs to redo it so it can be available for updates. The book is alright if you are looking for basics of hash making and an overview of the process. I totally agree with one of the reviewer's in the statement that this book is a product catalog. Not much insight or thought on the actual process of modern extraction at all which is why I am returning this book. The how to's are all based upon the products listed in the book, so if you have no interest in using the products in the book then the How to demonstrations may not help you out. All the information is very rudimentary and basic, also there is an entire section dedicated to just dabbing gear. I thought this was going to be a book about the processes of manufacturing modern day hash oil and maybe somewhat delving into some of the older methods of creating hash. Also, the book is a lot smaller than I anticipated, I was looking for something similar to Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Grower's Handbook in terms of clarity and depth of information, and I was disappointed. Can't wait to read it. This classic was recommended by knowledgeable people at my grow store. See more reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English. I have many books on making hash, oils and other extracts, and this one is on top of my list, by far! Fully detailed procedures with lots of pictures to back them up. Thank you Ed Rosenthal for sharing so much knowledge with everyone, you are so kind. Et les pros vous les trouverez facilement, ils ont des pleines pages de pub dans ce livre.
