Hannah interviews with the eccentric editor of jazzhate. It's just a freelance assignment for a blog, but Hannah's about to have her first paid writing job—as soon as she can figure out what to write about. The editor encourages her to work outside of her comfort zone, as that is where the magic happens. She suggests that Hannah have a threesome with some strangers from Craigslist, or snort a bunch of coke and write about it. Inspired by the latter, Hannah takes a lead from Marnie and pays a visit to Laird, the misunderstood junkie who lives on the ground floor of her building. Marnie runs into the artist Booth Jonathan at her new hostess gig. When he suggests Marnie took the easy route by taking a job at the club instead of finding a curatorial job, she snaps back, defending herself and insulting his work. Turned on by her attitude, Booth asks Marnie how long it's been since she had sex. As Marnie feigns resistance, he drags her out of the club and home with him to rectify the situation. With the coke procurement out of the way, though not before Hannah manages to insult her odd but sweet—and now clean—neighbor Laird, she and Elijah plan their evening. They agree that nothing but human decency is stopping them from starting in the afternoon, so they get high and make a lot of plans for their lives. Elijah admits he wants to raise Affenpinscher show dogs; Hannah would like to finally learn to write a check without having to look at the previous carbon. While snorting lines off a filthy toilet seat, Elijah reveals that he had sex with Marnie, and Hannah flips out. Their fight spills out of the stall and towards the sinks, where Hannah, out of her mind, douses her head and screams at Elijah that she hates him. In a nearby drugstore, Hannah protests that she was supposed to have been Elijah's 'last. Hannah, who has been trying to reach Marnie since Elijah revealed their secret, gets a response announcing that she's at Booth's, and the trio heads to his place. Marnie is mortified that Hannah has arrived at Booth's coked up and with Laird the junkie in tow. Hannah is on a mission and launches into a tirade about what a bad friend Marnie is, forcing her to acknowledge a multitude of perceived transgressions and that she is indeed a bad friend. Hannah tells Elijah he'll be moving out immediately since he's ruined everything, from her friendship with Marnie to her relationship with cocaine, which could have been her favorite drug. She storms out with Laird. Back at their building, Hannah refuses Laird's handshake and starts kissing him sloppily instead. When he asks if it's all right for him to kiss back, she allows it, but just for tonight—for work. Hannah is seeing a new guy, but her attentions are diverted by Adam, Marnie and her new roommate. Hannah finds she's the subject of Adam's hate-album and tries to keep an open mind about her new boyfriend's politics. Hannah plays hard to work hard. Marnie re-meets Booth Jonathan. Elijah accidentally opens up to Hannah. Hannah throws a dinner party. Shoshanna's relationship status changes. Jessa meets her in-laws. Hannah gets an e-book deal. Marnie hosts Booth's party. Ray and Adam bond in Staten Island. Hannah accompanies Jessa on a visit upstate to see Jessa's estranged father, his new-age wife and Frank, their virginal teenage son. Hannah's anxieties mount. Marnie is rattled by Charlie's success. Adam gets set up on a date. Ray's misanthropy gives Shoshanna doubts. Hannah's mental state deteriorates as a deadline approaches. Adam has a trying relationship moment. Marnie attempts to follow her dreams. Hannah takes on an overwhelming writing task. Marnie misinterprets Charlie's intentions. Ray looks to impress Shoshanna. Even though my 1 reason for going clubbing is and always will be for the electronic dance music, getting hit on by foreign men and sometimes flirting is inevitably a part of the experience. I have to admit that getting the right kind of attention from the right kind of guy can propel a night from great to amazing. After clubbing all around the world in the past two years, I have to say that I have come a full circle and that my favorite kind of men to get hit on by are Americans. Primarily because they demonstrate a willingness to buy or share drinks unparalleled in other countries. Traveling and going out is expensive, and every bit of savings counts, ok? These are my impressions of how men flirt from different countries of the world, as seen by me chronologically ever since I started traveling in January Brazilians are not afraid to give it their all when flirting with girls, usually saying some nice but obviously BS words then going in for the kiss barely a minute after talking to you. However, from my observation Brazilian girls do get really happy when men say these things to them so these lines must work. Every man in the Brazilian clubbing jungle is trying to kiss a girl. So, men also need to be somewhat original to get kisses. Well, have you ever kissed a Brazilian guy as tall as me? If you say no, they either try to talk you into it and give it another try after a few moments, or they just move on to another girl to get kisses. A man can kiss a many girls in a night, in fact teenagers like to compete over it. Kissing 20 girls in a night is not unheard of. However, despite kissing many girls Brazilian men do not expect to take you home. One interesting by-product from this culture in my opinion is that Brazilian guys are exceptionally thick-skinned and can handle rejection extremely well in life. Oh well, onto the next country…. Argentinean men are aggressive and persistent, more so than Brazilians. Leaving the Chilean kind of confused. I just was not impressed. But I will say one thing: Forget getting drinks from them. Happened to me only once in my year of living in Spain, from a very very drunk guy that kept buying me drinks. My highlight of Spanish stinginess experience is when I went to a nightclub in Berlin and was approached by a Spanish guy from Valencia, who asked if I wanted to get a drink. When we got to the bar and ordered, he asked me if I have 3 euros because he ran out of money. And he later tried to kiss me and take me home. I went to the United Kingdom in February of this year with no expectations for novelty. I expected the culture, architecture, and men to be like the United States. After all, we do have similar cultures and speak the same language. All were chatting with me in a friendly, non-sketchy way, sounding and acting like perfect gentlemen. I was hit on by white, Indian, and black British men and all were like that where all the Asians at? In Fabric, this Londoner started talking to me, and ended up buying me a lot of drinks. Which was a welcomed surprise after living in Barcelona for half a year see my above note about Spaniards. Given the fact that drinks in London were so expensive, the drinks were much appreciated. After about four hours of hanging out with him and his friends, the guy did try to kiss me, and I told him I just wanted to be friends. Sure, he was probably disappointed but being the gentlemen that he was, this British gentleman continued to hang out with me and even introduced me to all his friends. I spent a month in Berlin over the summer of I rolled deep in techno clubs of the techno capital of the world. However, the techno scene is not conducive to a talking or flirting environment. Also, the club scene in Berlin includes a lot of international people. I do find, though, that German guys are somewhat willing to buy girls drinks. They also offer little trinkets like cigarettes and drugs as tokens of good will. German guys are attractive and polite. I find that Dutch men often approach you briskly and with a purpose. Then, they say something completely random to you that catches you off-guard. But they can also disappear as quickly as they have appeared. Dutch men in nightclubs are beautiful, elegant yet confusing creatures that always leave me scratching my head. Often, before I can even react, another one disappears into the night. At the Ultra Europe Festival , a solo Dutch guy walked straight at me with a purpose from far away. He said yes. He was going to the bathroom and I chatted with him for a couple moments in front of the bathroom. Next, at the Unlocked Festival in Utrecht, a Dutch guy dancing next to me turned to me and said something. It was as though he changed his spot deliberately after talking to me. Hmm… Maybe it was a hot spot. This is definitely a pickup line right? Nope, guy walks off after saying this to me. Is this a flirting tactic? The Internet says that Dutch men tend to be very passive because their women are aggressive. Maybe this is a passive aggressive tactic to get women to chase after them… Or maybe they are just enigmatic people. Do you girls want a drink? We have a table! If a guy wants a chance with any girl at the club, he is expected to buy drinks. Many women will take the free drinks and disappear. A guy pays his dues in terms of drinks and time spent talking and dancing with you. Remember how in Brazil, men and women make out all the time without going home together? Unlike in Brazil, if an American girl kisses a guy, the guy has a very good chance of scoring that night. So, there you have it, my observations of male-female behavior from years of rolling in the chaotic jungle that is the club world! This was such a fun read! This was a very interesting read! Brazilian guys sound like they come on really strong! Right on with the British men! Didnt know that much typical guys hit on girls based on nationality.. I have not been asked that from American men. But love to check out dance scene too while travelling since love dance and music. Haha maybe it depends on when the american guy is from too — in nyc and vegas guys are definitely all about tables and woo-ing girls with drinks! Loved reading those insights. I have lived in Europe for nearly six years, but never thought of writing about men from such angle. Quite creative! This is hilarious, and I have experienced many of these interactions haha.. I never understood what was so hard about asking a girl to dance instead of just grinding up on her unaware! Interesting blog post. I hear a lot of stories about the aggressiveness of men abroad. Never experienced that. But great to hear a different perspective, especially from someone who has been to many places. I have very little clubbing experience. The men there drink like crazy and absolutely insist to pay for your drinks. He was also a real douche as men can be when super drunk! Is it good or bad that they paid for your drink? This is an interesting read! Really good tips too. One thing is for sure though, when I am traveling, backpackers never really buy you drink. Such a great idea for a blog post! Lived in Asia foe 4 years and that experience flirting was all over the map pun intended lol. I did find British men in London to be quite the gentlemen! This is hilarious! I literally had almost the same encounter with a Dutch guy in Sankeys. You seem super chill, so happy I found your blog! Dance Music Humor Party Fouls.
