Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. When you register, you get our free weekly -ish snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in Username:- Password:. Or: Register to be a proper snow-head, all official-like! Prev topic :: Next topic. Poster: A snowHead. Heading off to Saas Fee next week for some late snow, potentially thinking about buying the wife and I some Ski boots. We're both intermediates, I've been skiing for 5 x 1 weeks and the wife has been twice. So has anybody got any recommendations for shops in Saas Fee and any recommendation on boots? I'm hoping we might get an end of season bargain! Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person. The intersport right by the nursery slopes and the pizzeria has kitted out my OH, and his mum and dad. All have had good service and are happy. All advanced skiers. They all have very straightforward feet though, and aside from needing one little toe blowing out, have had nothing other than insoles done with the fitting. I got mine fitted in the UK by Colin, so can't give a first hand review, as I have slightly more problem feet. Cost wise, what they paid was similar to what I paid in the UK, and they did all the binding adjustment too. They bought on Xmas trips so no idea of end of season bargains. Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see? I agree that Intersport formally Glacier Sport , is the only shop with a dedicated ski boot fitting room in Saas-Fee. The others all appear to be in the same try different boots on for 15 minutes, and if it doesn't hurt, they are the boots for you class. Boot models cannot really be recommended as they are such a personal thing. This late in the season the size choice will probably be getting limited, so don't be tempted to buy a bargain if it isn't the right sized boot. You need to Login to know who's really who. Thanks guys, good advice. We'll check out intersport. New Topic Post Reply. Snow Snow Snow! The Saas Valley is truly one of the pearls of Europe, if you ask us. Why then? Well, hold on: more than sunny days a year, fantastically beautiful mountains, endless hiking trails in the summer and no less than kilometers of slopes in the winter. So much to do and see, so we make life a little easier for you we like to do so , and have already selected the literal and figurative highlights. Would you rather stay a little lower in the land of chocolate and watches, Then read our other tips about Switzerland here. Let's literally start with a highlight, one at more than meters altitude: the Allalin viewpoint, the pride of the Saas Valley and special for a number of things. The view is of course breathtaking, but the Allalin is also one of the most accessible and most climbed mountains in the Alps. Don't worry if climbing isn't your thing, because you also have a restaurant there. Restaurant Allalin also fits into the special category: it runs! In an hour, the restaurant does a full , so while you dine you can admire every mountain peak without having to get up. Tip: reserve a table a day in advance. Also nice: you can easily get there with the Metro Alpine. That's one more thing to cross off your bucket list! Metro Alpin will be given a new look in the summer of This walk is circular always nice not to walk the same part twice and has a distance of 9 km that's about 4 to 5 hours of walking. The level of the route is moderate, but take into account a large section of steep walking downhill. It is not without reason that the walk is named after the ibex, aka the ibex. Because the best part is that you will probably encounter the wild mountain goats. What else can you expect? An amazing view of course! Read more about the walk here. This beautiful walk is located on the border of Switzerland and Italy and has a distance of 14,6 km, so it is quite a strenuous walk of about 5 to 6 hours. The starting point is at the largest dam in Europe: the Mattmark Dam. From here you walk up to the real one eye catcher : the golden statue of Mary or Madonna in Italian. The last part takes you up a staircase to the top of the pass, where the golden statue stands proudly. A nice place to take a breath, a well-deserved lunch break, and enjoy the view of the Monte Rosa mountain wall. You can also walk it, but it will take almost two weeks. Can also…. De Monte Moro Pass offers an impressive, varied walk, but beware, the level is really at a difficult level. The best time of year for both walks is between the summer months of June and September. Tip: start early! The viewpoints in this area will blow you away. It is the first favorite Hohsaas viewpoint. You can reach it via an adventurous mountain bike path. Doesn't that seem like anything to you? Simply going up with the gondola is also a great option. It leaves from Saas-Grund. Once you have arrived you can join us Restaurant Hohsaas for Swiss cheeses and glass of local wine. Also the Mattmark Dam is definitely worth a visit: from the valley you can take the free bus with the SaastalCard to the reservoir. It has an impressive history, and is great for cycling and walking. There is also a terrace to enjoy those hours of sunshine. Something for everyone. A visit to the dam can be nicely combined with the Monte Moro walk. It starts there too! It is another winner Longfluh viewpoint. From this point you are very close to the glacier. Okay, it can be even closer, but then you have to put in a little more effort, something like climbing with ice hooks. We'll come back to that later. At this beautiful point you can also eat on the large sunny terrace Langfluh Restaurant. Of course with delicious wines and a four-course menu. This is one for the books. Together with an experienced guide you go up the mountain, on a rope. You cross enormous, pointed ice plains and crevasses of the Fee Glacier. Fully dressed in climbing harness, crampons and ski poles, you go on an adventure. Very cool! You don't have to bring those things yourself, because you can rent everything on site. You don't have to be an expert either; This special tour is accessible to everyone, even without experience. The Glacier Experience Tour can be booked in both the summer and winter months. With this tour you will go through the gorge, over suspension bridges, climb ladders, hang from cables and even fast zip lines. You can book this experience all year round. You have to have some balls for this, by the way, not for everyone. Not special enough yet? You can even do this experience at night. Just make sure you have the Alpine Canyoning Tour reserve in advance. Enough with all these crazy adventure activities? The Saas Valley also has plenty to offer for those who want to be a little less active and also have a lot of fun with the kids. Like cuddling with marmots. Okay, you can't hug them, but you can certainly feed them. The marmots love peanuts and carrots, which are for sale at the Saas-Fee Tourist Office and the Spielboden restaurant. Please note: this is only possible in the summer, because in the winter they go into a deep hibernation. May is the first month in which this furry friends show themselves again in the light of day. More information about these cute four-legged friends here. There is also endless entertainment for the kids, such as a treasure hunt through the forest. The card for this is available for a small contribution at the Tourist Office in Saas-Fee. Or how about playing monkey around in it climbing park? Or take a nice tour on one of the scooter bikes look a bit like off-road scooters that you can rent. What is really useful is the SaastalCard , which allows you to use all gondolas with the exception of the Alpin Metro and the Postbus in the entire valley for free. You also get a big discount on various activities. You will receive this guest card when you stay in one of the partner accommodations which is almost all accommodations in the region! Good to know: winter sports enthusiasts must purchase a separate ski pass for the gondolas during the ski season. And how do you get to the Saas Valley? Traveling by plane is certainly not a bad idea: the airports are a maximum of 3 hours away by taxi, bus or train. Easy peasy! There are many easy ways to reach the area. By car is also a great option: it is about an hour drive from the Netherlands. When you arrive in Saas-Fee, leave your car in the parking lot at the entrance to the village. And there it stays, because Saas-Fee is completely car-free! We find it wonderfully quiet! And sustainable! From the parking lot you will be picked up by electric transport and taken to your accommodation - well arranged there in Saas-Fee! Switzerland , Saastal April 11, , by Romy Schouten. Outside , Traveling , Travel , Winter sports. Switzerland , Saastal , April 11, , by Romy Schouten. The Allalin viewpoint. Stretch your legs briefly. There is a lot to hike in the area, and we have selected two routes that are more than worth it: Ibex Trail This walk is circular always nice not to walk the same part twice and has a distance of 9 km that's about 4 to 5 hours of walking. Monte Moro Pass This beautiful walk is located on the border of Switzerland and Italy and has a distance of 14,6 km, so it is quite a strenuous walk of about 5 to 6 hours. Can also… De Monte Moro Pass offers an impressive, varied walk, but beware, the level is really at a difficult level. Nice viewing. For the daredevils. Glacier experience This is one for the books. Through the gorge With this tour you will go through the gorge, over suspension bridges, climb ladders, hang from cables and even fast zip lines. The back and forth.
