Buying NFT on OpenSea through MetaMask, step-by-step guide

This detailed instruction is suitable even for those who are new to cryptocurrencies. More experienced users will do all the necessary actions just in a few minutes.Once you learn how to do this, you will quickly buy and sell in a couple of clicks!

Creating a MetaMask Crypto Wallet

First of all, you need to get a cryptocurrency wallet as you will need it to buy and store NFTs. For this purpose, many use MetaMask, which goes as browser extension.

It has a simple interface and decentralized system. It means that even the developers do not have access to your account in it. You should install the extension for your browser. You can use Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Brave browser.

Creating a wallet

After installing Metamask, it will be available as an extension icon in the upper right part of the browser. You have to create an account. To do this, open your wallet, come up with a strong password. Make sure you carefully write it down on paper with the secret phrase that will be given to you. They will be needed in the future for wallet access since no other access or recovery options exist! The passphrase is even more important than the password as it gives you full access and the ability to open your wallet from any place any time.

When the registration is completed, the window of the wallet you created will open. Copy its address (alphanumeric code) to yourself by clicking on it with the mouse, and save it somewhere. This is your wallet address to send funds.

Registration on the OpenSea marketplace website

Then you need to create an account in the OpenSea marketplace, where the majority of NFTs are bought and sold. To sign up, it is enough to connect your MetaMask to their site - it will also be your account there.

You should click on the wallet icon in the upper right corner of the screen on the main page of OpenSea and select MetaMask in the window that will open.

A MetaMask window will open in the upper right corner with a choice of the account you want to connect - if you just installed the wallet, then there will be only one account. Click next. Your wallet will be connected to OpenSea and an account will be created for you automatically and connected to it without any additional passwords or mail, through MetaMask only.

Cryptocurrency Options for NFT Buying

Now you need to purchase a cryptocurrency for which you can buy NFT. OpenSea has several cryptocurrencies available for transactions:

·      Ethereum (ETH) is the main cryptocurrency for transactions, but it has very high commissions, you will have to pay 50-200 dollars for one transaction.

·      Polygon (WETH) is a popular coin for buying NFTs with minimal fees of a few cents per transaction.

We are interested in Polygon since it's a popular, convenient and inexpensive option. We will tell you below how to buy this coin and transfer it to your MetaMask wallet.

Setting up a wallet to work with the Polygon network

Before proceeding to buy Polygon cryptocurrency, set up your MetaMask wallet to work with this network (it is initially set up for the Ethereum network only). On the main screen of the wallet, click on "Ethereum Mainet" and in the window that appears, click on the button "Add Network".

Or open the website https://chainlist.org - find the Polygon Mainnet chain (ID 137) there and simply by clicking on the button add it to your MetaMask with all the necessary settings automatically.

Sometimes there may be lags in the Polygon network. In this case, in the wallet settings, you can replace the RPC Network URL with one of the backup ones:

Buying MATIC on Binance

After that, buy the MATIC token - this is the main currency of the Polygon network (an analogue of the ETH token on the Ethereum network). We will need it to buy the NFT on OpenSea itself.

MATIC can be purchased on any popular crypto-exchange where the output of MATIC tokens to the Polygon network is available. We will show you how to do this using the Binance as an example. Here you can buy tokens directly using a bank card.

To buy MATIC tokens on Binance using a bank card, you need to pass verification according to documents, confirm your identity and wait for verification by the exchange administration (usually it is done quickly during the day).

Topping up the exchange's balance from the card

To deposit money from the card to the Finance exchange, find the "Buy crypto" section in the top menu of their website and choose the most convenient option for yourself.

Then follow the instructions and wait for the money to be credited to the account balance. Always transfer with a margin of +15-20% for different rates and other transaction costs. Look at the token rate and purchase the required amount.

Buying crypts through Binance P2P service

You can also buy USD in the section of P2P trading (P2P-exchange) from other users, and then exchange them for MATIC. This method is convenient if you cannot top up your Binance account directly from the card in your country.

In the transaction settings, select "Buy”, choose USDT and a convenient payment method. The table shows all sellers who are ready to conduct a transaction on the specified conditions. Choose the right one with the best reputation and the number of successful transactions from 500 and above.

In the window with the order details, copy the seller's details and transfer funds using them. Click "Pay order" and confirm the transaction.

The seller checks the receipt and if everything is fine, the ether is credited to the buyer's P2P account.

Then, transfer USD from p2p to the spot wallet of the exchange account (menu "Transfers" >> "from Funding to Spot wallet" - select the currency USDT") and change them to MATIC.

Tokens withdrawal from the exchange to the Meta Mask wallet

Once you have bought MATIC, transfer it to your MetaMask wallet. In the "Fiat and Spot" tab in the "Cryptocurrency balance" section, find the MATIC token you bought and click on the "Withdrawal" button. In the new tab, select the currency and specify the address of your wallet that you copied from MetaMask. The network for the transfer is Polygon.

Converting MATIC to WETH

As soon as the purchased MATIC tokens arrive at your MetaMask wallet, leave 3-5 MATIC for expenses and commissions, and the rest must be exchanged for ETH tokens - wrapped ETH for the Polygon network, and the purchase on OpenSea will be made for them. You can make an exchange directly in the MetaMask wallet by clicking on the exchanger button there.

Then, select the appropriate pair of MATIC - ETH coins, click the button to check the exchange rate, then confirm the exchange and wait until it is completed.

If the exchange in Meta Mask is lagging (sometimes happens), you can exchange tokens on the 1inch platform conveniently and quickly.

Buying NFT on OpenSea

When you have the right amount of wrapped ether ETH on your Polygon chain wallet to spend and some MATIC coins to pay for transactions, you can proceed to the purchase of NFT. Open the page of the appropriate collection on the OpenSea website, select the NFT you need and click on the "Buy Now" button.

Then, you will need to make several confirmations in your MetaMask. First click on "Confirm checkout" and confirm the order. Then allow the OpenSea website to use coins on your wallet for purchase (this is done only once), to do this, click on the "Unlock" button.

You will only have to confirm the transaction. To do this, click on the "Sign" button.

After processing the transaction, there will be a window with confirmation of the successful purchase. That's all. Now you are the owner of the NFT and you can completely dispose of it - put it up for sale right on OpenSea more expensive than the price for which you bought it, or wait for the sales start of the game packs.
