The Narcotics Control Board NCB has issued a warning about a new illicit drug containing an ecstasy-like substance which looks like powdered pickled plum. So far there have been no reports of the drug, believed to have originated in Taiwan, slipping into Thailand, according to the NCB. NCB deputy secretary-general Niyom Termsrisook said yesterday information shared on social media showed the drug, called 'King Kong' in Taiwan, in its pink powder form packed in a ziplock plastic bag looking like powdered pickled plum. The drug tastes sweet and is mixed in drinks or laced in tobacco and smoked. It has no pungent smell and is more easily available and more potent than ketamine, Mr Niyom said. NCB secretary-general Sirinya Sitthichai has ordered officials to check and verify the information being shared about King Kong on the internet. The drug was first detected by authorities two years ago in Taiwan. Local law enforcement officers detained a man with what appeared to be powdered pickled plum in his possession in Tainan City. A lab test revealed a breakdown of the powder content found to be made up primarily of an ecstasy-like substance.
