Has anyone ever bought medications at the port pharmacies? I have seen many of my prescriptions available over the counter in these pharmacies at a fraction of the cost but I have never bought them. I didn't know if they were held to the same quality as meds bought in the U. Also if you purchased there, do you have to have copies of your written prescriptions to bring the medications aboard the ship? I sometimes still buy a few antibiotics to keep on hand because even with insurance, the cost of getting in to see a doctor and my time it takes it is usually cheaper in the end. For reg medications I just buy at home. They are the same meds. You will need to know the generic name most times but they usually do have a book to look it up in. I never had trouble bringing them on the ship and if anyone else ever had I am sure it would have been posted here. I have in Puerto Vallarta. I went to WalMart and purchased what I needed. You will need to know the generic name as that's what you will be receiving. Never had a problem bringing them back on board. I may get one prescription filled this time around too, too big of a hassle to ask the doctor for one. In Belize I bought Keflex and Penicillin. DD got Amoxicillin and Penicillin. She is prone to strep throat and doesn't like to go to the Dr. I get the penicillin to have on hand for my horses. Much cheaper there. No prescription needed. And no prescription needed. One tip: Make sure you verify the expiration date before you leave the pharmacy. This is one complaint I have read about. I live an hour or so from the Mexican Border and the last time i crossed to get Medicine's i was turned back at the Border this was a few years back and i have not tried sense, and have not tried it on a cruise. I had a few inhalers for my Niece and some antibiotics which they did not care about.. I had 2 bottles of Soma muscle relaxer which can be bought over the counter in Mex. I went back to the Farmacia and they would not refund the money so i went to the Dr. I had up until that point gone to Mexico Several times for the same thing and never had a problem. Custom Agents had asked me before what it was and i told them.. Before i had also purchased and brought back Loratabs I will just keep them in my carry on and in a RX bottle from here in the states.. My only suggestion i guess is be prepared to throw whatever it is away unless you have a script for it. If you get through Customs great. We buy antibiotics and inhalers. The Gov. My get albutarol inhalers and some other drugs and I get antibiotics and some drugs that I do have a script for in the states. We have never had a problem bringing them back. However, if it is a narcotic that you are after it is possible that you won't get it without a prescription. My advise is to go to a pharmacy that is off the beaten path. You will have more choices there. Our last time in Cozumel we couldn't find a few of our meds that we had gotten in the past. Just go in and ask. If they have it they will tell you. Bringing meds back on a ship are a lot different than crossing the border by foot. Although we went to Tiajuana in Oct. Well, we're Eastern Carib this time. Not stopping in Mexico. Hopefully, we can find these in other ports we go to Nassau, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. Are these just available in Mexico? It is not the watered down version you get in over the counter facial products. I add it to my facial moisturizer and eye cream. Several children have died in our area and the son of a co-worker has luckily pulled through, but everything out there points to our society's abundant use of antibiotics as what is causing these super germs. This and all this anti-bacterial stuff. Seriously, I know people on these boards are huge supporters of hand sanitizers, but that is a contributor to these superbugs. According to some of the chemists in my building, these sanitizers should only be used when hand washing isn't an option ie porta-potties. And when washing your hands, you should use a regular soap like Ivory or Dove.
