The situation is more serious in remote mountainous districts of southern and northern Tajikistan. Further increase in temperature during June and early July has created a major source of concern. According to reports from the field, approximately 42 percent of the crop was lost in Ishkashim district GBAO. Reduced harvest was furthermore reported in Vakhsh, Shaartuz, Qabodian and Beshkent districts Khatlon. The Hukumat of Khojamaston reported to WFP that the harvest in the district was less than half of last year's harvest. VGF food rations were distributed in Moskovsky district, targeting 12, beneficiaries. Food was also distributed to a FFAR canal-cleaning project in Moskovsky district, benefiting people. In Vose district, Mission East carried out the first cycle of free food distribution. Some 30 MT of vegetable oil and iodized salt was distributed under school feeding programme in Gharm district benefiting some 22, children. Some MT of food commodities were distributed to 11, beneficiaries in several districts. WFP supported a number of small-scale rehabilitation activities such as canal cleaning, forestation, riverbank repair, irrigation channels, etc. FAO continued monitoring the progress of rehabilitation of 11 irrigation pumps and cleaning of 92 kilometers of irrigation and drainage channels. Additional irrigation rehabilitation micro projects have been identified for implementation later in The FAO veterinary project, within the framework of its training programme, organized two intensive two-week training courses for field veterinarians. WHO continued to provide regular technical support to international agencies in health-related programmes and liaised with local health authorities, ensuring a considerable improvement in mutual understanding and collaboration between the Ministry of Health MOH and UN agencies and NGOs. In its support to MOH for implementing health care reform, WHO emphasized on the leading role of inter-sectoral cooperation. In view of the magnitude of malaria situation in Tajikistan, especially in the border areas, WHO tried to change this unfavorable trend through improving the efficiency of international efforts. The adoption of common recommendations was followed by an international course of field training for 9 participants in Kurgan Tyube, Kolhozabad, Vakhsh and Bokhtar. WHO conducted two workshops in Kanibadam and Isfara districts for 86 participants on strengthening management of reproductive health information services. Also 25 participants were invited to the workshop in Dushanbe on sustainable funding of reproductive health programmes.
