Jan 1, 78, 50, 1, Melbourne Australia, often in Austin Texas. Finally, Aussies will get a normal Japanese season after the late decision to open Japan in November in time for But this late decision forced a lot of snow sports enthusiasts to go to North America or Europe instead. In general, the number of Aussies on the snow was down last season, and many of those who did head to Japan were newbies and some very inexperienced snow riders. I left Japan last October after living there for 16 years And mouth watering powder every season!! Last season I had 18 powder days out of 29 on the snow. However, I've done it for so long, I thought I'd better do it!!! Just a word about the shops Tokyo ski shop area It remains to be seen, but more shops may open up to replace those ones since this will be a FULL season, with IMO, larger than usual numbers for this coming season. London Sports outlet is still the cheapest place in the whole area. Six years ago, the old store lease was up, and they moved two doors down in to the tiny location, but they opened a new store just down the lane, in the basement see map. The tiny main street store has brand name sports shoes and clothes, and some snow wear upstairs. The lane way basement store usually have budget, but quality brand skis, snowboards, boots, clothes, goggles, hats, gloves. I need to update them, as some shops have closed, while others have moved or been renamed. The Fuso clothes and accessories store usually has a selection of top brand runout jackets and pants just near the front door. Reactions: Any and WillSki. I've been posting these threads for around 15 years. Here's my nostalgic look at my times in the Tokyo Ski Shop area Salomon BBR The biggest crazy bargains: - Salomon BBR These are strange looking skis: The big brother of the BBR 8 skis which had a poor reputation. It's a long stiff ski with quite a lot of sidecut on a 98mm width under foot. They are really good on hard snow because of that. Not rockered, but the really wide tip mm gives the ski tip a lot of float in powder. It has a twin tip tail which would make it capable in the terrain park. This ski surprised me as a very versatile and capable ski. It's a pity it was discontinued, it's so versatile, but I suspect it was not popular because it looks strange and radical. I use this as my do anything ski which I leave in the US I should have bought 2 pairs of each!! For wetter days I'd use the goretex. This was absurd. They had around 8 pairs and I should have bought the lot for mates. I get the heat oven custom fit a few doors up at Fuso ski shop not at the other two Fuso shops almost next to each other. I also get the custom foot-beds there if I need them. I used to trawl the ski shop area when not skiing from mid September to about early June it was often too hot between those other months to enjoy it. Reactions: Melskius , lewis and MarzNC. Ski Pass. My Australian son is going to be working at Arai ski resort over the season and we're concerned he won't be able to find boots in Japan. He's an Australian boot size 13 31 and we've been told sizes in Japan don't go up to this size. I would be so grateful for any information please. Many thanks, Karen. KarenBB said:. Apr 5, 73 35 Thanks for this info Sandy! Doing last minute packing for our trip to Naeba in mid Jan. Am I better off looking in Tokyo - are prices and range better for apparel than Aus in general? Dec 25, 3 0 It also depends on the size you need. If you're a larger size, a jacket will be more difficult to find,. Jan 25, 1, 2, Reactions: lewis. May 31, 20, 9, 1, Chernobyl, Russia. Just got my girls to try on their gear that they wore in July this year and my youngest has grown out of both her pants and jacket. I have another jacket which fits her fine but no pants, and she isnt back with me until the day before we leave so was thinking of buying over there. Is it too much to hope that the ski shops will be open over the new year break? Qazadex Hard Yards. Feb 12, 2 0 How big do the sizes generally get in Tokyo? Considering a new Ski Jacket, as the prices appear to be significantly lower over there, but not sure they'll be big enough - I'm around cm tall, so probably need a Japanese XXL. Qazadex said:. New to the forum and heading to Japan in 2 weeks time My daughter is wanting to buy a one-piece ski suit. Feb 6, 32 65 Thanks once again for posting this info Sandy, have used it for previous trips and although I haven't purchased much more than an item or two it has been a load of fun going on the bargain hunt! I'm back again next month and trying to squeeze in some ski gear shopping on the last few days of my trip but was wondering what time these stores would be open until each day to see if I have time after doing something else most of the day to visit the area? The two Fuso locations appear to be close to Ogawamachi station. Is the Ueno area with 4 London stores the best bet, or should I go down to the Ogawamachi station area? Reactions: grrr. Thanks Sandy I went to the Kanda ski area yesterday and looked through every shop I could see a lot! Searching for jackets specifically, so there may have been bargains for other stuff, but on that particular day, there were no clothing bargains to be had Hyst Untenshu - kangoshi Ski Pass. Have a look for Montbell shops. Reactions: Sandy. Thunderace Hard Yards. Mar 7, 7 0 Thanks for that Grrrrr, especially about the tax free. Currently on way to Hukub for a week, then Toyko. Have tried on the mont bell jackets IN Kyoto. What model did you buy???. I was looking at the droite. Funny thing was the difference between large and XL. Large was right. Jul 10, 67 Not the best as they dont have much grip and still get cold feet. As such, im after some snow boots. Thunderace said:. What model did you buy. Reactions: buckcompton. Donza said:. Gotta say. The snow stores in Osaka have slim pickings in my experience. The best spot for those boots is prob super sports xebio. Reactions: Donza. So having just tried ski pants in HeLly Hansen just now, the item doesn't fit the best. As I leave tomorrow, do you think I'll be able to find pants in Osaka while I'm there for 4 days? I think Donza mentioned Osaka doesn't carry as much as Tokyo, but it's it a big risk? I decided to just update the dates on the old thread, since it never got past the first page. Reactions: Any.
