Expert: Pamirski, Christian Fann mountains itinerary Post by stansmug » Thu May 25, pm Are these logistics in place, and does anything need to be booked in advance? We are a group of 2 people. Day 1 - Taxi from Samarkand to Panjakent. Stay overnight here. Day 2 - Rent a driver for the day to take us to the 7 lakes and back to Panjakent. How much would this cost? Another night in Panjakent. Day 3 - Shared taxi to Sarvoda, then private car from there to Sarytag. Sleep in Sarytag. Day 4 - Explore Iskanderkul, sleep in Sarytag. Day 5 - Shared taxi to Dushanbe. Re: Fann mountains itinerary Post by trikolka » Thu May 25, pm I don't know the prices for taxi, marshrutka or private car, as I went there by bike, but just a suggestion : the day where you explore Iskanderkul, you are not obliged to go back up to Sarytag, you can stay overnight in bungalows of the former soviet 'turbaza' at Iskanderkul. It may not be as nice as a homestay in Sarytag, but at least you will have a warm shower. When I was there, it was in july and I did not book anything in advance ; but it was several years ago, so, don't take my infos for completely reliable. Re: Fann mountains itinerary Post by stansmug » Wed May 31, pm Would these areas be substantially more busy on weekends, or does it being a workday or not have much relevance? Was planning to be at the 7 lakes on a Monday and Iskanderkul on a Wednesday to avoid crowds, but if I push it back a couple of days it ties in nicely with flight dates. Re: Fann mountains itinerary Post by Germsy » Sat Jun 03, pm Hi sorry to jump on this but we have been told that the pass between Kulikalon and Alauddin is closed due to snow. Has anyone done this trek recently to advise whether this is the case? Re: Fann mountains itinerary Post by willemspie » Sun Jun 04, am I don't know but snow on the passes in the spring seems normal to me. Now 'closed by snow'? People do cross passes buried in snow, it all depends on your equipment, experience and skills. Like Kaznok Pass, there is very difficult snow there even in summer, but some people cross it. Or only the main road? Any suggestions? We will be cycling Samarkand - Panjakent - Dushanbe first days of August Thank you! Re: Fann mountains itinerary Post by willemspie » Thu Jun 08, am No, these are hiking trails, impossible to cycle through the passes. Go further, go slower. Experience more. Caravanistan A Silk Road travel forum Skip to content. Quick links. Expert: Pamirski, Christian I'm looking to cross the boarder from UZ to Panjakent next week and do the 7 lakes ideally by myself. Since I don't have snow gears but just regular trekking shoses, I'm not comfortable walking in snow or icy surface. Hopping to get a better idea of the road condition. Ideally i'm after some nature but nothing too technicals in the next two weeks and any advices or suggestions are appreciated. Re: 7 lakes in January Post by Kalpazan » Mon Jan 15, pm Well, Haft Kul isn't exactly high altitude so it might be walkable in the winter but still I think it is risky to do it without proper winter gear. I see snow on satellite images at the moment. If you insist doing it, take the bus to Shing and ask there what are the road conditions up ahead. There are usually vehicles going back and forth that can give you a lift in case you need it but don't count too much on that. Btw, it helps a lot if you speak some Russian. Re: 7 lakes in January Post by Kalpazan » Tue Jan 16, pm While the lakes are more or less interesting to see the road leading to them is quite boring. Not really worth to hike it if you ask me. Also, I am not sure if the lakes are frozen now and not so spectacular to see. And a trip in Fann Mt. Re: 7 lakes in January Post by Kalpazan » Wed Jan 17, am Well, I've no experience with any 'low altitude' treks in this area. Perhaps the Bactrian Trail from W to E. Go further, go slower.
