Transfer Time. Best For. Ideal For. Canillo is a traditional Andorran valley town of stone clad buildings set along the valley floor and climbing up the southern slopes. There is no skiing back to Canillo, but a fast 8 person bubble lift rises quickly up to El Form at m. Our hotels in Canillo are close to the bubble lift as well as being in the centre of the resort. The resort has a number of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a superb leisure centre with swimming pool and ice rink - where not only can you skate but also race go karts with studded tyres on an ice circuit. From the top of the bubble lift its a short warm up down to the Portella Chair. Then its straight into the speed trap - a short timed section which records your fastest time - 65kmh was my best last winter! From Tosa de la Llosada its a lovely blue run down with gorgeous views off to the right down to Cortalets. The chair up meets the Funicamp bubble lift from Encamp. Then I head over for a coffee at Llac del Cubil. There is a new green run that heads down the valley to Bordes d'Envalira and new quad chair back up to the slopes above Soldeu. Lunch is generally at Sol I Neu a great restaurant right at the foot of the slopes. The chairlift up to Espiolets goes over the World Cup Slalom run - a steep black run - the afternoon is spent cruising on the long blues and reds between Soldeu and El Tarter. To get back over to Canillo its back to the top of Tosa de la Llosada then a drag lift up to Portella before the lovely Rossinyol blue run back to El Forn for a well earned drink on the terrace. High up at El Forn and right outside the bubble lift — the nursery slopes are accompanied by a few drag lifts and a chairlift. The ski school is small, but its still operated by the excellent Grandvalira ski instructors. In no time you will be off and up the Portella Chairlift and exploring the runs over to El Tarter. Canillo is at the far end of the ski lift system of Grandvalira and the resort makes for a great base to explore the whole area. Three chairlifts take you right to the highest point where you can choose which way to go - Pas de la Casa, Soldeu or El Tarter. One thing to keep in mind the last lift back to the top of Portella for the ski back to the Canillo bubble lift closes at daily but if you miss it there are ski buses from El Tarter back to Soldeu. With over kms of markets piste to play on and acres of freeride areas, Canillo and the Grandvalira will keep you entertained every day! On the way back to Canillo you have 2 freeride areas. To the right of the Portella chairlift is steep and challenging, whilst the left hand side is open flowy snow fields. The Canillo ski school is based at the top of the bubble lift. It offers both group and private lesson for children and adults. Group lessons generally start at 10am and finish at 1pm. For the older children there is a snow garden for ski based play! We use Schski and Pic Negre. The shop is right by the bubble lift. Rental equipment can be left at lockers in the shop taken back to your hotel or you can also rent a locker at the top of the bubble lift. Canillo has a wonderful sports centre right opposite the Ski Plaza hotel offering ice skating, go-karting on ice for both adults and children, an indoor climbing wall, huge swimming pool and if you have the energy after your day's skiing a fitness centre along with both squash and tennis courts.
