I had a great time at the ranch. From Felicia I have learnt a lot about ranch life, harvesting seasonal vegetables and fruits, food preserving techniques and the beauty of California. Food preservation has resulted in delicious outcomes and recipes! She cares a lot … read more about workawayers to experience a great time while learning about the culture of ranch life. I even had the chance to help during events that took place at the Ranch and exposed me to more cultural experiences which I enjoyed a lot. I will miss all the animals and kitties forever and hope I can visit again! I highly recommend this experience, thank you!! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership. Clem and Lilli, stepped into our ranch life as if they were part of our family! They did everything we asked of them always with a smile. During their stay at the ranch, we hosted our son's wedding and Clem and Lilli pitched in just like family to help with all the preparations. From gathering over pumpkins to harvesting juniper on the ranch to cleaning and designing flower arrangements for the tables they did it all. We all loved having these two lovely ladies on the ranch and they are always welcome in our home! Staying at the ranch was just a blast and a beautiful parenthesis in our American trip. We had not originally planned to go to this ranch but Felicia just welcomed us with open arms and enthusiasm at the last minute. And we just arrived at the right time! We were privileged to help plan and participate in the wedding of Felicia and Marc's son, … read more Haustin. The program included so many unusual activities that we could not have experienced elsewhere: preparing floral arrangements, harvesting more than pumpkins from the field and placing them on the wedding site, helping and serving the various meals The wedding was just beautiful and Felicia put her heart and soul into the project. She has a lot of creativity and talent, especially in the floral arrangement and decoration. We really felt inspired and touched by her kindness and generosity. She is truly the backbone of the family! To talk about the place, the ranch is just beautiful. It is so vast that we could go hiking for hours in the middle of the rolling hills and the almost desert climate of the Central Coast. The hundred year old oaks and the little wild flowers give a very soothing aspect to the landscape, making it a perfect place to relax. We also took care, during our stay, of various animals and especially enjoyed be around horses and less common animals like deers, antelopes, buffalos or Z-donkey. They are so interesting to observe. Buck and Dan are two super horses and we had a really good time riding them. A big part of the work was also in the garden, we really enjoyed harvesting veggies, the garden is huge and include such a big variety of veggies, and also flowers. Harvesting, removing weeds but also drying and dehydrating veggies and herbals were part of the daily life. We had the opportunity to make so many good recipes with all those good products, and learnt about making sourdough bread. Felicia is really knowledgeable in cooking and her recipes are just delicious! We had a great time with the whole family and friends of the ranch, everybody is really kind. The experience was unique and we will surely remember it all our lives. All the laughter we had, the sunset hikes at the ranch and the smell of fresh basil as we entered the garden will stay with us forever. Thank you again Felicia, Mark and all the family. It was a bliss : We wish you the best in your projects and they are numerous! Two of my friends and I stayed there for two weeks and it was amazing. We had such a great time, the working part is a pleasure, no kidding. They were lovely with us, their animals and family are much more than we expected. I thank you for this trip which wouldn't have been the same without you! View all 20 feedbacks. This is the ranch office where we have breakfast and lunch and check people in. Left by Workawayer Katharina for host. The family is the most open and caring family I've ever met! Me and my friend Anna spent there nearly 2 months and it felt like finding a new home in a different country! We were at this amazing ranch during the holiday season and got to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years with them. They are all wonderful, generous people and … read more integrated us so much - I am very thankful for that! Our work mostly consisted of cleaning the rental houses, a little bit of gardening and helping with the cooking and baking - Felicia is a great cook, the food tastes delicious!! We got to do a lot of fun things like riding the horses, going for walks with the dogs, visiting Hearst Castle and all the different towns near the ranch, dancing at a linedance event in the evening and much more. We also were very lucky to pariticipate at the gathering and branding of their cattle, which was great and very interesting. All in all we learnt a lot - not only about cooking, baking especially with pumpkins and carrots ; - but also about the daily american ranchlife. On our last day we even went for a horseback ride on the beach!! Spending my time with Felicia inspired me to think that you can do anything in life if you put enough organisation and effort in it! These two months are definitely one of the most amazing experiences of my life! Thank you so much for that felicia, mark and the rest of the family!! Left by Workawayer Maci for host. Wishing Courtaney all the best and God's safety in her travels! Left by Workawayer Courtenay for host. No one could have welcomed me to the central coast of California like Felicia had. I must say Felicia is one of the most genuine, hardworking, patient, kindest women I've encountered. Her selflessness and work-ethic are contagious - when you're hosted by such a great person, you want to make them proud and reciprocate their selflessness and … read more work-ethic! I was more than happy to help Felicia with any task which she had needed help with, feeding the animals, cleaning chicken poop, cooking, baking, cleaning the guest rooms, harvesting the garden, making salsa, doing information tours of the exotic animals, and sitting in the back of her husbands pickup and throwing hay over the animal fences early in the morning I was eager to learn from felicia, I learnt an absurd amount of new recipes from her, everything from classic American baked goods, to new age pescatarian meals Felicia did everything she could to make my stay pleasant, I didn't feel like a volunteer, rather a friend; relishing in great conversation and giving me great life advice. It was my first time in the San Luis Obispo county and Felicia immersed me better than I could've imagined; showing me the surrounding towns, bringing me to her friends bbqs, taking me to her families beautiful beach home in Cayucos, having her son take me out on Halloween and having her other son host me for a few nights at his place in Santa Barbara after I left her ranch, a real great central California coast experience. Felicia aside, the ranch is absolutely breathtaking. North American bison welcome you into the 32, acre property, followed by deer, Nubian ibex, mangalitsa wooly pigs, peacocks, z donkeys, miniature donkeys, water buffalo, Navaho sheep, markhour, mouflon.. The ranch is engulfed in clean air and rolling hills, oh, and the Milky Way is visible at night. The property is a work of art with peacocks and dozens of farm kitties freely roaming.. Which of course, being the great tour guide she is, Felicia had brought us to for dessert one evening. The ranch is located 35 miles from the nearest town, which allows for disconnection from society for a short bit, the ranch also supply's endless hikes, photographic opportunities and vastness for adventuring, thank you so much felicia and the family for such a great 2 weeks.
