Buy it, Sell it, Pawn it

Hello there,

Been a week since I’ve come home and it isn’t raining enough and I don’t like this dryness. But I don’t have to touch the frying pan anymore and that’s awesome. What else is awesome is the feedback I’m getting. Thank you, my brothers and sisters, for that!

Welcome to another Knowledge•Day shots issue. We’ll again see more and read less today.

Pawn Stars

Today makes history! Well, it doesn’t but we’ll look at some. ;-)

Do you know about the popular TV reality show “Pawn Stars” shown on History TV 18? If not, then I'd suggest you stepping out of the rock.

Male p**n Stars

Alright, so the show’s chronicles the daily activities of the World Famous Gold&Silver Pawn Shop (Yeah the entire thing is the store name) located in Las Vegas that deals with antiques and collectibles. Yes, expensive stuff that’s why we can just watch it on TV and enjoy it.

If you have been watching the show, you could probably riddle this:

Q: What is Chumlee’s pawn limit on the store?
Austin "Chumlee" Russell
  1. $1,000
  2. $10,000
  3. $50,000
  4. $100,000

The answer’s at the bottom, no hurries.

Now, let’s quickly look at some of the interesting and expensive historical stuff.

Ghantaa! By the Dutch East Indian company

Ring a bell? No pun intended but it should really remind you of India’s history. But it’s not the same British East India company which pretty much molded the present of this country. However, it’s more interesting than that.

Did you know the Dutch East India company is seen as the most valuable company of all time? Had it continued the growth with seeing the inflation, it would’ve been worth $7.9 trillion today. Modern-day FAAMG viz. Apple, M$, Alphabet, Amazon, etc. don’t even come close.

British East India company started as a rival to the Dutch monopoly and targeted India for the spice trade in the East. Rest, we all have read about. Not just these two, There were a lot of * East India companies back in the time. See this.

Alright, so this Bell in the picture was used in the Amsterdam stock exchange. The session opened at noon with the tolling of a bell and ended at 2:00 p.m. The buildings could accommodate nearly 5,000 people!

The Pawn stars managed to get this for $15,000!

Ford Roadster 1932

The Mafia 1 era

Look at the physical condition! It’s almost 90 years old! Amazingly maintained!

FWIW, the pawn stars managed to get it cheap enough – for $70,000

New England Patriots 2004 Super Bowl Ring

He's proud
“Super Bowl rings are one of the biggest collectors' items on the sports market. You'll probably get $35,000 for this one.” - Expert

But how much did Rick had to pay for this? $2,600.

Yep, that’s it! Sadly, the guy who owned this had to pay off a loan and gave this ring as collateral for 120 days. Well, he never went back to the store. A good day's deal for Pawn stars.

1932 Lincoln roadster

Look at this beauty! It’s marvelous and amazingly maintained as well. What’s more amazing is that this has a V12 engine! Imagine the sound! If you haven’t read yet, my previous issue was all about the V-engines.

John F.Kennedy's box of cigars

That’s John F. Kennedy’s cigar box that he’d used at the White House. Even better: The box even had some of Kennedy’s unsmoked cigars still in it.

The seller was seeking $95,000 for the box, but after some hard negotiating, he settled for Rick’s offer of $60,000 and agreed that the price is “fair”. Jokes on him, the pawn stars sold it for $575,000 in an auction!

Well, the TV show has some amazing number of antiques traded daily and we can only look at a few of those. To be honest, I had good time research for content for this issue, I’m liking this.
