The hotel is beautifully located at the Songhua river and not too far however, not in walking distance from the main attractions of the snow and ice festival and the new opera house with its unique architechture. We did not join a tour group -- thus we had to struggle to take the bus, get a cab etc. But though Harbin is a really nice modern ice city, the cab drivers are really out to take advantage of you, which sort of ruins the tourist experience. Overall Harbin is a nice place to visit - don't miss the ice and snow sculptures if you're going in the winter. Wear enough warm clothes, arm yourself with enough Chinese translations, bring along your haggling skills, and you're good to go!
