With some of the tables featuring horigotatsu seating that is low to the ground with a footwell for comfort and partitions, this Japanese restaurant is ideal for casual group dining. The most popular of the various menu options are potato dishes and grilled fish. If you're dining in a group, gathering around a hot-pot cooked with seasonal ingredients will surely be an experience to treasure. Local sake and beer perfectly complement these izakaya foods.

On September 25, , I had tempura ramen for yen. This restaurant is a long-standing noodle eatery established in Although it is closed on weekends and holidays, I really wanted to visit this place. The small space has 2 tables and 5 counter seats, with the kitchen right behind a glass door, so you can hear the satisfying sound of frying shrimp. Just like the previous restaurant, the default flavor here is a salt-based sauce, with a clear broth made from chicken and dried sardines. This simplicity allows you to appreciate how the soup gradually gains richness from the oil of the tempura. What's even more impressive is the size of the shrimp tempura, which is so big that it feels like it's meant for a shrimp tempura bowl. This bowl is very satisfying in terms of both flavor and portion size. I knew it had been around for a long time, but it had a somewhat intimidating appearance. My husband suggested that we give it a try!! So, we both gathered our courage and entered the restaurant. There were 5 seats at the counter and two 4-person tables. Yep, it had a retro vibe. Water was self-serve, and we found it in a pot. There were plenty of manga comics available to read while waiting. My husband ordered the Ohama Ramen, and I felt like having rice and tonkatsu, so I struggled between ordering the Katsudon and the Katsu Curry. When I asked my husband for advice, he suggested the Katsu Curry, so that's what I ordered lol. The Ohama Ramen had a salty taste with lots of ingredients and a rich broth, it was delicious. I only confirmed some of the ingredients like sea urchin, clams, shrimp, and scallops. With all these ingredients, how could it not be delicious! There was also an egg in it. The Katsu Curry had a generous portion of tonkatsu on top, along with pork belly, carrots, and onions in a curry that tasted like home cooking. It was a mix of sweet and medium spicy, leaning towards the sweet side. It was quite mild, so even small children should be fine with it. The menu was extensive, so I think I might go back again. It might be a bit intimidating at first, but oh, the water was delicious too! At first, I was surprised because I had never heard of such a combination before. Without hesitation, I ordered the tempura ramen and gave it a try. The soup was clear and had a clean, refreshing taste with a hint of saltiness. The tempura didn't feel out of place at all and was actually quite delicious. The shrimp was fresh and the batter was crispy. It was a bit strange, but I found myself wanting to eat it again. Overall, it was a memorable dish that left me intrigued. I was able to take a day off for a business trip that included the weekend, so I decided to go on a quest to complete the 'Tempura Ramen Quest' in the Shakotan region. I arrived before 1 pm at a small restaurant with just a curtain for a sign and no parking lot. I parked at the nearby 'Michi no Eki Iwanai' and walked to the restaurant. The place had a counter along the wall and a couple of tables. The kitchen was separated by a wall, and the door was half-open. The place was not crowded, and the friendly owner greeted me with a smile. I ordered the tempura ramen, and it was served quickly. The bowl had noodles, soup, tempura shrimp, bamboo shoots, and green onions. The soup was clear with a hint of salt, and the noodles were smooth and slightly firm. The tempura shrimp had a light and crispy batter, and the shrimp itself was juicy. Overall, the dish had a gentle flavor and was very enjoyable. I sprinkled some Nanban spicy pepper halfway through and finished the bowl. It was delicious, and I was glad I visited the restaurant. This completes my quest to try tempura ramen in the Shakotan region. I look forward to trying the 'Ohama Ramen' next time. Coming Soon. Referral Code. Get verification code. Cookie Notice.
