My boyfriend and I aged between 27 and 29 have booked to go to Mykonos the 2nd week of June. We are staying at the Andronikos Hotel has anyone ever been there before? I've never been to Mykonos but visited many Greek islands, some of them several times and I've never seen anybody using drugs. In fact, in all these years I've never even seen anyone drunk. Its only that in i worked a lived in Kos and it was a real problem i was stopped every night on the way to work and asked if i wanted 'anything' and again in Corfu last year. Hi Alicia, Mykonos can be an expensive island to visit But you can still visit Mykonos without breaking the bank. There are dozens upon dozens of restaurants in Mykonos Town , and almost all post their menus outside so you can see what's on offer and what the prices are like without having to sit down. For further information about restaurants, look for the box at the top right-hand corner of the Mykonos Forum page; you'll see a link to restaurant recommendations. This list was compiled from messages posted in the forum last season. Note that the Little Venice area is a tourist trap, so prices can be very high at bars and restaurants along the seaside there. But if you walk deeper into Mykonos Town, away from the seaside, you'll find more reasonably priced food and beverages. I've personally never seen signs of drug problems on Mykonos or any other Greek islands, but I imagine that since Mykonos like Ios has a popular club scene, some people will be using drugs there. Marjan - you obviously haven't been to Faliraki in Rhodes , Laganas in Zante or Kavos in Corfu then or any of the other resorts favoured by the British. I think you will see more drunk people in those places then you will ever want to see for the rest of your live!! Alicia - yes Mykonos is expensive but as long as you are aware of this then you shouldn't be in for too much of a shock. I would say that it is slightly more expensive than London for drinks however I went to Paris last year and thought the drinks there extortionate. Spirit measures are much more generous than our piddly 25 mls though! Nice as it is you'll be spending about 16 EUR for 2 each day which soon adds up over a week. You can always lay your towel on the sand. Places further back from the harbour heading towards the bus station and amphitheatre tend to be cheaper than eg Little Venice - It's good to splurge once though and head for a waterside place. I don't think Mykonos has a bad drug problem. I'm sure in places such as Space or Cavo Paradiso it's available if you want it.. Also, as Mykonos only has a handful of flights each week from the UK and it's pricey you don't really get the Chav travellers or big groups of young men and girls that you get in places such as Faliraki. You get a lot more European travellers and lots of cruise ship visitors so many in fact that you may need to duck down the side streets in order to avoid the shop browing cruisers , they are mostly gone back to their ships by about 11pm though. Paradise is the straightest of the two beaches you mention as it's easy to get too. It has a couple of beach bars that crank up the music about 4pm and then it's a dancing free for all as the cocktails flow. It's great fun. Super P is more gay from the water the left hand is gay the right hand straight and more nudist. It too has beach bars playing music but is a bit more laid back. June is a good time to go I am not into clubbing, partying and night-life, but I can assure you that most Greek islands are breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing: try Folegandros or Chios which is the best kept Greek paradise for example. Also Naoussa Paros and Chora Naxos are a very good choice for spending peaceful and inspiring holidays. You should always avoid islands with direct air connections and cheap package holidays Anyway, Santorini will always remain my love at first sight and a perfect holiday island. I'm in your age group and travel to mykonos every year, this is my 5th time I travel all the way from Australia and I can't get enough!!! Mykonos is not cheap but is anywhere besides Asia!!! Also has another bar with a great outdoor pool area. All the first timers go to Scandinavian Bar and Space but I enjoy going where the locals are. Dont waist your nights!! I see you're off to Mykonos soon. I love it but it can be expensive as I'm sure you are aware. Try Sitges next time, just down the cost from Barcelona so easy flight wise not as expensive but equally cosmopolitan with very few Brit package holiday makers. Some lovely people on here have given you good advice and I'm really please many are recommending Elia Beach , my favourite - I wouldn't be seen dead on S Paradise, too queenie by half! Also- use your towels directly on the sand so as to avoid paying for sunbeds. Try Lefteris Grillhouse on Ornos beach for great cheap grills and house wine- it won't break the bank and is delicious..
