According to an article in todays Novedades newspaper, the Tulum police chief, is estimating 30 percent of his police force are on drugsmostly cocaine. Not sure how big the Tulum police force is but that would sound like a high percentage! Not a comforting thing to know. Most likely some of the police that are on drugs are the ones that extort money from the tourists with their bogus traffic fines which helps to feed their habit. Thats a good thought. Also they are probably keeping the drugs they confiscate. Otherwise it would be an expensive habit to feed on a Mexican police officers salary. Drugs are very easy to find not only in Tulum -but the entire Coast. I went to Playa del Carmen for a day from Tulum-I was asked more than a dozen times-cocaine, Percocet, Pot-everything. Not to mention hookers are in every town-those simply are not just Disco's but hooker houses with many rooms available. This is the reality of Mexico. I stay on the beach and my most favorite word is NO I enjoy research and it's shocking. Open your eyes when in a Taxi and on the back of most seats there is a logo for the Pleasure Palace. There are drug stores in every town-it might shock you if you ask for something-no prescription needed for most things-if you have a drug problem-do not go. We vacationed as a family in Cabo and walked around as a family at night. My wife and daughter had to return for school and I stayed 2 nights longer on my own. When I walked those same streets alone all the offers suddenky started to a startling degree. I even heard of such a phenomenon in Majahual. Obviously and thankfully Tulum is not Cabo but is a little closer to Majahual. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.
