I went with my wife and 9 month old child on the first day of reopening in February during a sort kf winter wonderland esq theme. Within the park was an ice church, museum and bar. The church was really spectacular. It had ice sculptures, and well placed lights that set the building off. Whilst the park was made for children older than 9 month, as a family we enjoyed our time there! My personal highlight was the giant troll statue. I'm fascinated in cultural mythologies and trolls is no exception. The downside is that the park didnt sell any postcodes with the troll on it which is odd since it is such a huge presence. The place is good for a family day out or may be a two day out. The place is located not too far from Oslo and also has paid parking options. The entry is smooth and you will have staff assistance if you need when you enter. The park has many options for almost all age kids like water area, slides, movies and shows. Some of the slides were a mix of fund and educational like a farm tractor ride. So that was very nice. On a hot sunny day I recommend to bring hats as you will not find much places for shelter. Bring your kids food and water. If you are low on water you can buy it inside and I have also seen people getting refills by the shop owners for free. Bring your strollers that will assist you keep stuff while you mobilize and wait in queues. The waiting time in queue is not too long. I think max we waited was around minutes but that will change depending on rush. Overall your kids will have a great fun but please plan 2 days as it is too tiring to cover everything in a day. If one is interested in history, it is very easy to spend several hours just in the first part of this open air museum, looking into the old houses, noticing the furniture and interior design. We very lucky with the weather, so we could enjoy just the walk between the buildings. The museum is several small lakes and you can just wonder around with no time restrictions. There is a decent cafeteria and a souvenir shop in the entrance. Parking is paid, but cheap. The entrance ticket are reasonable as well NOK per person. Highly recommend. I was driving through Lom, from Balestrand to Geiranger and had to stop to check out another amazing stave church. The Lom stave church was built in the 12th century and restored throughout the centuries, The architecture is absolutely beautiful. Must see. Definitely one of the most beautiful stave churches still in existence. The entrance fee is worth it. There are some persons of interest laid to rest here. It's a bit unsettling to a muslim grave in the churchyard though. That speaks volumes about how little selfworth the Norwegian church have left. The style is different compared to Gol or Heddal, but still amazing. We walked from our hotel to visit it, so we had no issues with parking and if you wait long enough you can catch times in between when the buses unload their tourists to enjoy the church virtually alone. Amazing piece of history, also the smell is so specific. Short scenic break on the road from Hamar to Loenfjord towards Vestland. When in Norway do see at least one Stave church. This one is very impressive, completely made out of wood. The interiors are ornate and again made of wood. This church has a particular smell , a smokey smell. A smell you wont forget. The outside of the church has beautiful carvings. Around the church lays a graveyard. We didnt go inside unfortunately. At the moment they are putting new tar on the church which i assume will give it the classical black look of a stave church again. We loved stopping by the Stave Church on our way through town. The guides gave us an informative and funny historical background, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Outdoor Activities. This mountain ridge in Jotunheimen National Park is one of Norway's most popular hiking spots. A must-experience. It is best to take the boat to Memrubu and walk back. Remember to book a ticket for the boat online. Magnificent walk with one of the best views of Jotunheimen. You will not experience anything like it in other places in the world. The trip is approx. Amazing trail, started at the camping site for a nice warm up walk, took the ferry and did the besseggen hike to end up at the camp site again. At times the hike is very steep and technical. We have hiked extensively in the Himalayas and Alps but on this ridge we reached a slim section en route to the summit with an insanely exposed drop off so we turned back. Unfortunately they do not have any signs in English that warn people of this closure, so I'm guessing lots of non Norwegian tourists end up sleeping in their car up on the high mountain pass.
