I found her in the fall of and decided to work with her for various reasons. I was looking for a midwife who would of course know her birth stuff but also be connected to her spirit and be able to hold me on my journey in the spiritual as well as physical levels. Her care is personal and comprehensive. Our first in-person session was at my parents house where I treated her and her assistant, Byanca apapacharwombynservices , to lunch. My mom was skeptical about hiring a midwife and at the kitchen table we hashed out all the details and answered all my moms questions. Unfortunately I didn't get to experience child birth with Maria, something I intend to do the second time around, as I had a complication called preeclampsia that forced me to get a c-section and birth in the hospital. But even then, Maria has modified her care to cover my circumstances and continues to work with me postpartum as I heal from the c-section and acclimate to motherhood. Postpartum care has been wonderful and exactly what I needed. Maria is highly recommend! My partner and I both decided that we wanted to do a home birth, and in our journey of searching we found Maria. We went though the intake with Maria and she cleared us for midwifery care. Throughout our meetings, I disclosed some personal trauma through us building rapport. Maria did not respect that I asked her to not bring it up and continued to address it in the most unprofessional way. The final straw was Maria coming over for our regular scheduled prenatal visit. Maria took my blood pressure as she usually did, but this time with a new machine that she dropped several times on the floor and her normal hand blood pressure reader. She advised we go to Kaiser and be assessed there, we agreed. The stressful situation was amplified by statements made as fact by her before we even left to Kaiser to be assed. Once we arrived my blood pressure was normal and I had no signs of Preeclampsia in my blood panel, which was her assessment. Kaiser suggested her cuffs could be uncalibrated. The next day Maria didn't even call to check in with us, and we had to follow up with her for a check in. When we checked in with Maria she asked me 'What I learned from that experience She then proceeded to bring up the trauma, yet again, I had asked her not to. I advocated for myself and told her to stop. I then brought up the possibility of the uncalibrated cuff and she became extremely defensive. Before our next meeting I asked Maria to talk, about the concerns I had with her services; her not respecting boundaries, defensiveness, punctuality, and rebuilding trust. Throughout our conversation I had asked Maria for an apology to move forward, which she denied me. The conversation ended with her saying she felt as though I did not trust her and maybe we need to search for an alternative birth plan. We had an appointment scheduled for the next day, but I'd decided to hold off since the conversation did not lead to a better outcome. Trust was on the line, but I was hoping to rebuild it though communication. It's seems through advocating for myself Maria was upset. I sent and email letting her know I was hurt and felt unheard. She responded the next letting me know we could not move forward with services and I was released from her care at 33 weeks! Even in my email I appealed to her letting her know if she asses from a place of stress please recognize how stressful this is, we've made payments already, I'm 33 weeks and switching care is a even bigger stressor. If that wasn't enough she falsified health information as to why I was being released from care. Stating my BMI was over, which it was when she told me one as a client, that I was at risk for hypertension, and had a family history of preeclampsia. Compare this to my Kaiser chart and aside from her basically pointing out I'm fat, it is all false. Lastly on that list she put we were unsatisfied with emotional care from midwife. She falsified the classes we took in order to not issue a refund and did not pull any of the itemized classes from the non refundable deposit. It's been a nightmare, but honestly South Bay be warned. Please do your research and consider who you are choosing as a birth worker. My hope is no one has to go through the same things we endured with Maria. Maria was my midwife for my second birth. From the very beginning she always made me feel listened too and allowed me to feel comfortable Voicing all of my wants and needs and desires for this birth. She provided a lot of information to help me make informed decisions. She took the time to talk me through all of my fears anxieties. Maria Help me navigate this birth experience physically ,mentally ,spiritually. My birth was beyond amazing. Maria listened to exactly what I wanted and allowed me to take control of my birth experience and was there every time I asked for help or asked for anything. My birth was everything I dreamt up and I couldn't be more pleased to have her as a midwife. Even my postpartum care she was very knowledgeable about newborn care. She's helped me navigate the process of motherhood. I couldn't feel more blessed. She provided with a comprehensive approach and made sure that every member of my family was included. She provided warmth, empathy and was caring with my 2 kids. She heard us and cater to our needs. My baby was born at home and during delivery, she was calm and provided my autonomy. Maria is amazing!!! I definitely would recommend her to all. We felt very supported during our pregnancy. Maria does a great job at informing her clients about what to expect, and why. We really loved the balance of traditional and western medicine. My partner and I were happy to be able to weigh our own baby. We appreciated the extra visits when needed. Felt blessed to have our midwife practice the same traditions our family does. Maria is magical. I worked with Maria to prepare my body for conception. She guided me through a detox, she did body work and massages, reviewed my blood results to recommend herbs. She is very loving, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend her services. Very knowledgeable on various modalities of care but more than anything does work from the heart. Maria Teresa cares about families and children and it is evident when she works with you.
