Moscow has stepped up its propaganda campaign against Sweden in the wake of Stockholm's announcement that it would join NATO. Russia is accusing Sweden of Nazism, and has rolled out posters that say that it is "the Nazi regime." During the last month, the Russian deputy foreign minister said Finland's bid to join the alliance was a "grave mistake." In an interview with the Russian newspaper Vedomosti, Sergei Ryabkov stated that Hitler had Jewish blood, and that Russia's position is "neutral," which was the stance of Sweden for decades.

Russia has also taken up the propaganda war against Sweden, with bus stop ads blaring the same accusation. Moreover, Russia has used posters and pictures that paint figures in a Nazi-like manner to justify its military action against Ukraine. This is part of its hybrid warfare strategy, which is being introduced as Sweden prepares to join the NATO alliance.

As part of a comprehensive Russian-Swedish investigation, several archival researches and interviews were conducted. The results of these efforts were compiled in a report that was released by the Soviet Union in 1957. However, it is believed that the report was a stock cover story.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, a series of monumental shifts occurred in Russia. While the Wallenberg case was not resolved, a large number of war prisoners were released. Some people even reported meeting a mysterious V.I.P. inmate, who allegedly had met Wallenberg and had been able to tell him he was in prison.

When the Kremlin announced that it had no record of the death of Wallenberg, Swedish officials inquired about the matter. They suspected Moscow was withholding information about him. But the question became moot when the Soviet Union collapsed. Eventually, a report was issued by Serov, the former head of the K.G.B., which spelled out the circumstances of his death.

The report also claimed that Wallenberg died of a heart attack while in prison in 1947. Although some people had heard of his name, no concrete evidence was found that he was imprisoned.

However, a recently published diary of the original K.G.B. suggests that it was indeed Wallenberg who was executed in a Moscow prison. Unlike Serov's report, the diary states that Wallenberg was executed in a Russian prison.

Despite these findings, the Swedish government and others suspect that the Russian government withheld documents, and that it was this withholding that led to the death of Wallenberg. Consequently, a comprehensive Russian-Swedish effort was undertaken to determine what exactly happened to him.
