The KAMAZ truck factory was one of the largest manufacturers of heavy trucks in the Soviet Union in 1991. In 1993, the company lost its entire engine-producing workshop. This left KamAZ with millions of dollars in debt. To help pay off its debt, the Russian Republic of Tatarstan allocated a budget loan. Although this budget loan was not enough to cover wage arrears and other expenses, it did provide a small financial cushion. During the crisis, the Russian government took up the option of buying raw materials for the KamAZ factory from foreign firms.
KamAZ is now working to upgrade its product line. It has produced a new model line of KAMAZ trucks that is based on the Year 2010 Model Line. Moreover, the company has introduced a number of new features. These include a hydraulic manipulator that allows for loading and unloading materials onto the truck platform, a smooth ride and high maneuverability.
KAMAZ is also working on a new generation of heavy trucks. This model will feature a new 6-cylinder diesel engine KAMAZ-910 that is produced in partnership with German firm Liebherr. Moreover, the company is developing fuel cells that have a capacity of 40-200 kW.
Kamaz has been exporting its products to more than 50 countries. Some of its most important markets include Vietnam, the Middle East, Asia and Southeast Asia. Additionally, the company is working to expand its supplies to India.
One of the most important factors that have contributed to the success of the company is its high availability of spare parts. Besides, the company has a global service network that includes dealers, distributors and service centers in Russia, CIS, and overseas.
According to Denis Manturov, president of KAMAZ PTC, the company will continue to build a network of dealers to meet the demands of its customers. For instance, the company has launched five new dealer centers in the Russian Federation in 2020. In addition, it plans to open six more dealerships in 2021.
In the first quarter of 2021, the KAMAZ truck factory exported 5,822 units, which is an increase of 33.6% over the same period of last year. Meanwhile, sales of the truck in the domestic market rose by 12%.
KAMAZ's truck fleet has been upgraded with engines that are compliant with the Euro-4 international regulations. Moreover, the company has developed its own cutting-edge solutions to improve the quality of its trucks.
The company is also expanding its supply chain to the Middle East and Latin America. As part of this effort, KAMAZ has begun to develop a complex of hydrogen technology laboratories. Another key project is the development of new electric passenger transport items.
Throughout the course of the last few years, the company has improved its product line, including a range of buses, trucks, power packs and trailers. Today, the company produces more than 1500 configurations. With a total of 176 dealer centers in Russia, the KAMAZ PTC has become the leading manufacturer of heavy trucks in the country.
