Participate in an Ayahuasca retreat in Cusco ; Ayahuasca is the Quechua name to refer both to the liquid resulting from the slow decoction of an Amazonian vine called Banisteriopsis caapi, and to the vine itself, which contains the compounds Harmine, Harmaline and Tetrahydroharmine. Based on the liana decoction called ayahuasca, each Amazonian group or each healer adds different plants with the aim of communicating with a specific spirit depending on the disease they are going to treat, or the specific ritual they are going to perform. Ethnographic studies have reported that there are more than 5, different recipes to prepare Ayahuasca and more than plants that can be added to the decoction. In this way they managed to enter a state of consciousness that provided them with divinatory and therapeutic wisdom. Ayahuasca is a shamanic medicine originating from the Amazon Rainforest, brewed from a combination of several plants that are legally available in Peru. It is associated with rituals and religious ceremonies that are specific to a complete Ayahuasca experience. The immediate effects of the medicine can be felt in about minutes after the oral intake, but the intoxication can, on occasion, last on a person for up to 8 hours. There our Andean and jungle Shamans will guide you in the wonderful spiritual world of the Andean religion, and the use of its sacred plants, such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Kambo, Rape, Sananga. Likewise, personalized psychological help and therapies. All with a lot of discretion. Our staff will come to pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at pm, then we will transfer by private transportation to the sacred valley of the Incas, our ceremony will take place in the Town of Pisac, there we will meet Master Alberto, who will give us a warm welcome. The ayahuasca ceremony begins at p. The dose that is provided to people depends on the energy level and mental strength; the shaman does not provide the same dose for all people. During the ceremony, you will take a place on one of the mattresses lined up around the room. A bucket and toilet paper next to each one. Then you will sit and watch the shaman prepare the Ayahuasca and perform the ritual of blessing the medicine. The shaman will also drink the medicine. During the purge you will cry, urinate, vomit, defecate, wince, or yawn. We will be aware of all these reactions that are coming and we will be able to act to guide you at all times. Over the course of the night, you will experience many things. Or possibly just one important thing or very little. The ceremony ends shortly after pm, when the lights are turned on. And then you will lie down on your bed, which is assigned to you before the ceremony. The next day you will be offered a light breakfast, likewise you can consult the Shaman about your visions, who will provide you with spiritual guidance on the possible meanings, and how to have a good harmony of your energies. Our staff will pick you up at am, arriving in the city of Cusco at approximately am. Ayahuasca is becoming well known, and Ayahuasca tourism to South America for ayahuasca ceremonies has doubled in the past couple of years. Everyone wants to attain a higher consciousness and peek into the vast unknown universe within. Ayahuasca is called by some the Spirit Molecule, and by others the God Molecule. It helps people discover the divine within us all. It is a medicine of the jungle. It is a combination of several ingredients, all plants that grow in the jungle, and DMT ayahuasca is a brew of this combination of plants. Spirit vine contains DMT, the God Molecule, or the Spirit Molecule because it puts a person in an altered state of consciousness, a hallucinogenic entheogen. Many people tout the healing effects of DMT ayahuasca, from the physical level, the emotional level, the mental level, and most importantly the spiritual level, where all illness starts from. If the illness is addressed from within, deep within, the physical manifestation of illness often disappears. If old resentment and anger is let go, health in mind, body and spirit takes its place. What can you expect? It is a very individualized experience for each person. There are as many paths to God as there are individuals on the planet; likewise, there are just as many possibilities for an Ayahuasca experience as there are individuals on the planet. Your experience with Ayahuasca will be unique and will be your own. Just as with meditation, some people are very visual types of people clairvoyant and will see colors, patterns, and visions. For yet others, it is a combination of all of these. Ayahuasca is used extensively for healing and religious ceremonies. In recent decades, there is a growing interest in the said substance due to its potential in treating mental disorders like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and addiction. Some felt that they were lost, but came to their senses again after using Ayahuasca. Others felt that they were too consumed with their personal issues, but Ayahuasca awakened them to feel alive again. In most ayahuasca ceremonies, nausea and vomiting are a common side effect. Some even experience diarrhea. Aside from these, there are obvious physical side effects. Some ayahuasca users experience profuse sweating and shivering. Their heart rate and blood pressure rise. These ayahuasca effects, which are likely due to DMT intoxication, subject one to risks of hypertension, agitations, dizziness and muscular incoordination. As some put it, ayahuasca makes one reflect on his experiences and loosen up from his normal way of thinking. It gives one the strength to think about his traumatic past and confront those things that he usually pushes out of his conscious mind. It can stir up your traumatic past and result in distress. In preparation for your ayahuasca ceremony, it is suggested that you adhere to ayahuasca diet guidelines. It is not required to be on the ayahuasca diet to have a good experience but it helps to prepare your body to receive ayahuasca. It depends on how clean you already eat and how healthy you are. If you are already a healthy eater, you will probably be fine and have a good experience. The ayahuasca diet is simply a suggestion to prepare for ayahuasca ceremony. There is a specific way an ayahuasca shaman suggests preparing for ayahuasca ceremony. Shamans suggests that, if possible, using the ayahuasca diet for weeks prior to your ayahuasca ceremony. Make sure your body is a clean vessel in which this medicine can function the way it is intended to. For the most part, the ayahuasca diet is like an alkaline diet, which excludes acidic foods. We require that you NEVER enter an ayahuasca ceremony combined with any recreational substance, pharmaceutical drugs, nor health herbal formulations that can affect the physical body in any way, including seemingly non-impacting vitamins or herbs. All that is being required is three days before the start of shamanic ceremonies you go all natural and have your body in its unadulterated state so you can truly connect with these plant medicine spiritual experiences. Ayahuasca must be used alone, by itself, and never combined with other medicines, stimulants or depressants. No documentation or scientific study has been done to examine any substance in combination with Ayahuasca, so no one really knows what would be safe. Therefore, it is safe to say that abstaining from everything for the three days before the ceremony would be the best avenue. That includes your normal medications as well. Always consult with your doctor about this. One reason why there have been complications for some people with ayahuasca ceremonies, is that some shamans mix other substances into their medicine, like datura which can give nightmarish experiences and cause death or high quantities of nicotine to open the body more to medicine , or other substances that change the nature of the medicine somewhat. By contract with our shamans, we do not allow our shamans to mix anything into the medicine that is not part of the traditional ingredients. Our shamans practice the utmost of safety when it comes to making sure our medicines are pure and unadulterated. When deaths are connected to Ayahuasca, it is normally the person who ingests the ayahuasca has mixed with other substances. Blood pressure can rise too. However, death has not been associated with DMT ayahuasca no matter what the dose. If you are considering partaking in such a journey, prepare to encounter the divine, the infinite, the mystery—whatever you choose to call it—that which is beyond the limited perspective of your mind. The infinite is infinite, while your brain is still finite. The icaros, sung by a Shaman, are an integral part of the ceremony. It is also quite likely that you will gain a greater appreciation of the power of music through the icaros. In the documentary Vine of the Soul: Encounters With Ayahuasca, one user reported that the horror she experienced was truly indescribable and that she thought she was going to die. But another participant in the ceremony said that Ayahuasca opened her heart in a way it had never been opened before. She meaning the plant speaks to you directly and tells you what you need to work on in your life. The experience will be ineffable, beyond language, and you will likely find that trying to put it into words after the ceremony has ended will be daunting if not impossible. Another possible outcome of an Ayahuasca ceremony is that you will realize that everything perceived through your five senses and assimilated by your mind is contrived or false. Each experience is akin to just a small drop in the ocean. If you do not adhere to the recommended dieta diet before the ceremony, then the plants will assist your body in ridding itself of the chemicals—salt, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, etc. This is commonly known as purging, which translates to literally just that. But fear not, if your body including the subtle energy body is clean, then there will be nothing to purge. Ayahuasca does not cause hallucinations, but rather takes you on a journey into the unconscious. Due to its chemical composition, ayahuasca is considered an entheogenic and non-hallucinogenic substance, which means that the altered state of consciousness it produces connects us with our most spiritual part. That is why it is usually taken to connect with sleeping or blocked parts of our unconscious or to connect with the sacred in the world. The psychoactive substance that modifies our state of consciousness is DMT and it is not found in the ayahuasca rope, but in the leaves of a low jungle bush called chakruna. Our body which by itself secretes DMT in very small quantities, for example when we are newly born has the ability to neutralize the effect of the psychoactive substance. That is to say: the chakruna by itself cannot cause us anything. Ayahuasca is the one that has the ability to block the enzymes of our liver so that DMT is successfully metabolized. The curious thing is that ayahuasca is the only plant in the jungle among millions of species capable of blocking these enzymes in our body. How did the shamans know? The shaman is the mediator between the visible world of things and the invisible world of energies and spirits. No matter what you ask a shaman, he will always end up answering whatever he wants. We, the outsiders, come with such a desire to know everything, to know what is in that other invisible world that is there but that we can barely touch, that we do not stop launching questions like arrows. However, shamans know that each one must find their own answers and they practice their role as guide very well. The mission of the shaman is to direct the ceremony, that is, to call the spirits especially the spirit of Mother Ayahuasca so that they heal us with their wisdom and show us what we have to see. What to expect from our Amazon Tours Feel the restorative power of nature, relax your mind in a place full of energy and life, disconnect from the fast-paced frenzy of everyday life. What our clients say about us The whole trip was very well planned and thought out. Our guide Carlos was amazing, very knowledgeable and kept up with us the whole way. The rest of the crew also went above and beyond throughout the trip, from setting up camp for our arrival to the amazing food we ate. Also, the route around Ausangate was amazing and we barely saw another tourist which was a huge plus for us as other routes are getting very crowded now. Andean Great Treks Expeditions made this trip perfect for me and 3 friends exploring the beautiful Andes Mountains. I highly recommend this company for a personalized and professional guiding experience that is tailored to understanding the Incan culture and enjoying the beautiful country of Peru. We had an amazing experience with the 4-day Manu tour. The communication prior to the booking and our trip was excellent. Elmer was very helpfull and friendly answering all of our questions. We were picked up from Cusco by our driver, guide and cook in a neat, spacious transporter bus. Jacker was our guide and from the first minute of the tour he could tell us so many things about Cusco, other villages along the road, flora and fauna. Jacker was an amazing incredible guide with tremendous amount of knowledge about Manu. He was also friendly and kind and we had a lot of fun together. Isaias, our cook, made delicious meals 3 times a day. The meals were also healthy and varied and more than enough. We ate better in the jungle than in many restaurants in Cusco. We found it really impressive he made such meals during the basic circumstances in the jungle. The lodges were basic what do you expect in the jungle but clean and provided with toilet, shower and a good bed. The surrounding of the lodges was beautyfull and a lot of birds and butterflies could be spotted from your window or terrace. Everyting was provided during our trip to Manu and we could just enjoy our time in the jungle without anything to think or take care about. The traveling was smooth and safe with experienced drivers. Andean Great Treks has, unlike many other agencies, the goal to make traveling to Manu sustainable and low impact and all in private service. This was very important for us. They give you the chance to experience Manu without bothering the animals in their natural habitat. They have great love and respect for the nature and are active in social projects and sustainability in the unique region of Manu. We totally reccomend Andean Great Treks for anyone who finds sustainability and an authentic experience in Manu important. Danja Stiefel Amazing experience in Manu Park. We took the 4-day excursion in August. Got spoiled by the services of the staff and comfortable and spotlessly clean accomodations. Food: more than enough and delicious. Special shout out to Isaias, our cook during the trip! Our 2 days Ayahuasca retreat in Cusco is the perfect opportunity to perform a deep and integrative holistic therapy. If you would like to do a 5-day trek through the Inca Trail or the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu , we have treks that offer you the possibility of doing yoga, meditation and a suitable diet for an Ayahausca ceremony. More information in the following tab: Ayahuasca preparation treks. This 2-day Ayahuasca retreat in Cusco begins with your pick-up from your accommodation at 7 am. Then we will go for 1 hour through the sacred valley of the Incas, to the town of Socma. Once we reach the town, we will get ready to walk uphill for 2 hours. Upon arrival at the Perolniyoc waterfall , we will take unforgettable photos, contemplate the place and then have a minute guided meditation. Meditation can produce a state of deep relaxation and a calm mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the flow of confusing thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing you stress. This process can result in an enhancement of physical and emotional well-being. A meditation next to a waterfall is a powerful activity that will help you balance your mind and better process the Ayahuasca concoction at the time of the ceremony. Then we return for 40 minutes to our private transport. The ascent will be 20 minutes, to this energetic point of the sacred valley of the Incas. In this place we will do a Munay meditation meditation of unconditional love. Afterwards we will board our van for 1 hour to our Ayahuasca retreat house , located in Pisac. The previous activities of connection with nature and meditation help the body, mind and spirit to connect deeply with Ayahuasca. The coca leaf is a sacred plant from the Amazon , which is widely used in the Andes by shamans and naturalists to perform deep diagnoses of physical, mental and spiritual problems. The reading ceremony with coca leaves is very important, since the shamans of this form can detect deep problems that could guide and balance in a better way in the Ayahuasca ceremony. With this ritual, our Ayahuasquero shaman opens the chakras to free the spirit , and prepares you inside and out before the integrative Ayahuasca ceremony. Our Ayahuasquero also purifies and cleanses the negative energies of karma and bad vibrations accumulated in the body. The Ayahuasca ritual will begin around 8 pm. During the ceremony, the shaman will be in charge of supplying the patients with the Ayahuasca concoction, balancing the energy, frequency and vibration of the participants, in addition to performing magical songs Icaros to guide their soul when coming into contact with the Ayahuasca. At all times you will be taken care of by our coordinators who will be available to help you in everything you need. After the Ayahuasca therapy , our coordinators will take you to your respective rooms so you can sleep. NOTE: The rooms are shared by two Ayahuasca lovers and the bathrooms are outside the rooms and are shared as well. We have a capacity of 5 twin rooms and 5 bathrooms. After a long and intense Ayahuasca ceremony, the participants wake up around 8 am. Once all the participants have woken up, we will bring them an organic fruit juice and enjoy a nutritious Andean breakfast. After our integrating ceremony of Ayahuasca, the second most important thing is the interpretation of the revelations and the symbolism obtained at the time of performing the ritual. Ayahuasca is a master plant that teaches through metaphors and symbolism that need to be interpreted correctly by our shamans and also by each of the participants. Our Ayahuasquero shaman will provide an interpretation of his visions based on his wisdom and experience. This is a ceremony used anciently to eliminate the negative energy that invades our body, mind and spirit. This ceremony is performed with organic plants and flowers and is an important complement to the Ayahuasca ceremonies. Our Ayahuasca retreats in Cusco are door to door. This option is also available, you only need to coordinate it, with your sale representative. Important Note II: For patient safety, we reserve the right to refuse treatment to patients with the following conditions:. Bringing what is recommended on the packing list is essential for a better experience within your Ayahuasca retreat in Cusco. Our bodies are full of toxic and inorganic substances that will not allow us to receive mother Ayahuasca properly. The vast majority of the foods that we currently consume contain large amounts of preservatives, so a proper diet for at least a week before the Ayahuasca retreat is recommended to better channel the teachings of this powerful ancestral medicine. Plant diets are designed to help a person connect with plant spirits and develop new healing abilities, vision, and knowledge; that require a lot of time, in solitude and with a strict dietary regimen. When you follow a strict required diet, you become more accessible to the spirit world. Tranquilize or cleanse the body to achieve a spiritual state; It will be a familiar idea to anyone who has practiced yoga. Like the effect of the asanas on meditation, the physical preparation of the Ayahuasca pre-diet; it goes hand in hand with being able to psychologically prepare for the healing experience. Cleansing yourself of toxins gives you a great boost in the Ayahuasca journey; because, as Vincent Ravalee explains in the book entitled: «The Psychotropic Mind». All the toxins that we accumulate during our daily life, are the first things that Ayahuasca will attack. When you cleanse those toxins in advance, it is easier for mother Ayahuasca to work in your body; because there are fewer «barriers» to cross. By following the diet, you ensure your ability to get the most out of your trip; and reach deeper levels of spiritual psychic understanding. Each shaman, Ayahuasquero or Ayahuasca retreat varies in specific restrictions. In the Huacaria community we have a series of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual diets that you must follow rigorously to have a deep and healing experience with Ayahuasca. Proper body preparation reduces the risks of experimenting, difficulties and intense purging during the ceremony with the mother Ayahuasca. In addition, to following a proper diet, you show your commitment and intentions to heal yourself and know your own divinity. Foods Containing Tyramine. Ayahuasca, specifically; the Banisteriopsis Caapi, which is a vine plant, and one of the principal ingredients in the Ayahuasca brew. Is an MAO-inhibitor, meaning it temporarily inhibits the activation of the monoamine oxidase MAO an enzyme that is essential to process the amino acid tyramine. This can cause a severe increase in blood pressure and require emergency treatment. You should avoid products that contains tyramine; 2 weeks before the Ayahuasca retreat and 1 week, after taking it. The best way to prepare our temple, that is, our body, is to eat a diet rich in organic foods. Foods that contain preservatives are not recommended at all for a proper and healthy diet before an Ayahuasca ceremony. It is recommended to follow a diet based on fruits, vegetables and seeds. Other foods you should avoid: In addition to foods high in tyramine, you should avoid condiments, very acidic foods, salt and sugar in excess; these contain toxins that are difficult to eliminate from our body, and also that obstruct the purgative and healing energy of plant medicine. Avoid all Type of Animal Products Currently many animals used as a source of food, are full of chemicals; from vaccines, antibiotics to hormones, and are raised and slaughtered inhumanely. Unless you are consuming organically raised animals or wild animals from the jungle. It is best to avoid any industrialized animal product. It is mandatory not to consume industrialized products or animals; because you consume not only the substance of those foods, but also the energy of them. So, if you consume an animal, which was full of inorganics and chemicals and spent its entire life miserably crammed into a pen or barn; only to finally be slaughtered, in masse, in a mechanized way, you also ingest the negative energy and traumatic experience of that animal. Prescription Drugs 3 weeks leading up to the 2 days Ayahuasca ceremony in Cusco; we strongly suggest that you stop the following prescription drugs:. Sex and Masturbation Avoiding a sexual and energetic exchange 2 weeks before and after an Ayahuasca retreat is essential for a better experience. Sex, masturbation or even any exchange of bodily fluids, energetic and spiritual, can deplete the energy support available to you and thus inhibit the effectiveness of the sacred plants to teach and guide you. Mental Preparation The mental, emotional and spiritual diet is as important as the physical diet for a successful ceremony with the mother Ayahuasca. In our Huacaria village, the mental preset would include staying in relative solitude and minimizing useless chatter and gossip. In industrialized countries; a modern diet would definitely include: a fast from videos, TV, radio, movies, news, and social media. You should spend as many days as possible, before your Ayahuasca ceremony, doing activities such as: meditation, mindfulness practice and yoga to mention a few. Contemplation walks through forests, mountains, riverbanks, ocean shores. Also take a walk at sunrise and sunset to receive solar energy, walk at night, it is much better if it is a full moon, so you fully receive the energy of the stars and planets.
