Suggest an edit. Walmart Supercenter. Ask a question. Recently this pharmacy has lied to a long time patient about filling my prescriptions. I have tried to fill one just to get a response we have it in stock but we can't fill that type of prescription. The taller blonde - gotta get her name, said we are only giving to our regular customers instead, I said I've been a longtime customer for years but you were out of my medication so I had to transfer. She then asks what others prescriptions I had to fill along with the one I was asking about. She then recants and says you know what we can't fill your prescription's for you. Very unprofessional place for a small business. This pharmacy in the past had shorted my medication about 5 pills or so before when the blonde was on the shift. I called to let them know, either someone is stealing from your pharmacy or they shorted me and the young Gil on the phone tells me no not from here. I said I'm not looking to get any for replacement I'm just letting you know who's working for you. Do not go here unless you want to get entrapped by these people. Previously this place said if you get your prescriptions sent here you can't transfer to any other pharmacy. They're like the mafia you buy from us you stick with us. Gangster attitude and it was the blonde again that said this too me in the past. Do not work, be a customer for these people. They need a delivery driver don't help them. Gil's is unmatched when it comes to customer service - chain pharmacy's can't compare. Love the delivery and bubble packs, Gordana is wonderful!! Small town feel is still around at Gills. I stopped here instead of the usual chain drugstore because the doctor recommended it to bye specialty support hose for my grandmother. They seem to have a great selection of specialty health need items, so check them out. The customer service was great. A great small town pharmacy. Family owned and operated for generations. The personal service is like no large chain. Not a large selection of items, but they probably have what you need. I have been going to Gil's now for over a year and really appreciate the service and expertise provided by the family-owned business. It is a nice feeling to be greeted by name as soon as I walk to the counter. Walgreens couldn't fill an obscure script and told me that it would be days to get it in. I called Gil's at 6 o'clock at night and the man said he didn't have it either but will have it by the morning. After that he said he'd make sure to have some on hand for me on a monthly basis. I have been extremely impressed. I think I actually save time by going there too because they aren't as busy as the drive-through places. He was 29 years old, facing 35 years behind bars. He was tired of life. He planned to save up his commissary money and, once he got to prison, buy enough drugs to overdose. Face forward to two years later, and Stepherson is telling this story in his own home in Valparaiso, his son by his side, about to publish his first book. Stepherson represents one face of the opioid epidemic that takes the lives of tens of thousands of Americans, including dozens in the Region, every year. His story illustrates that, besides death and institutionalization, there is a third way out of addiction: recovery. Stepherson, 31, wore a baseball cap and beard stubble, dipping tobacco between his bottom lip and gum. People can get clean and turn things around and have a pretty awesome life. One day, he just decided to try. At jail, he went to church and recovery meetings. He helped with a renovation project at the facility. Somebody saw his potential, because, rather than prison, Stepherson was sentenced to a Valparaiso halfway house for recovering addicts, Respite House. He started a blog, called Junkbox Diaries, where he told vivid stories about being in the throes of opioid dependency: living in abandoned buildings on the west side of Chicago, eating out of dumpsters, almost losing his right foot to a staph infection, being robbed at gunpoint, overdosing twice. He noticed that his blog was getting thousands of page views. Readers commented that he should write a book. Stepherson started contacting publishers. He left a message with one, Chicago-based Joshua Tree Publishing, and the owner got back to him: You must be calling about Junkbox Diaries, the man said. Because of his authenticity, I thought he could help a lot of people by giving them hope that they can also overcome their addiction. Stepherson is set to do a book-signing later this month in his hometown of Valparaiso. Stepherson tells his story not only online and in print, but speaks before community organizations and recovery groups. Most of all, he believes people need to hear the horror stories about addiction: the death, the sickness, the homelessness, the bloody syringes, the begging for money, the complete and utter lack of hope. One, obviously I hope it helps somebody. Two, it reinforces my own accountability.
