We booked Marina beach club directly via e-mails. It was not cheap but covered boattrip, welcome drink, some fruits, lunch, covered sunbed, toilet, shower. The club itself is very pretty, nice design, comfortable, well kept, Everybody was very polite and helpful. There is wonderful view on Bocagrande.. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. We really felt like a chilling beach day without being harassed by hundreds of people trying to sell you something, so we decided to try Tierra Bomba, which only 15 min away from Cartagena. Overall we had a nice day, but it would be even better if knew the following: 1. Don't buy tickects for the boat from guys selling them on a street. They will approach you and try to make a 'good deal' with you. We bought a return ticket for 3 people for The rest was the comission the guy on a street earns, because he speaks English and attracts tourists. The best way is to take a taxi to where the boats are the taxi fair should be max 7. We asked to be dropped in Tierra Bomba, but they brought us to another town on the island and didn't tell us! The beach we were brought to was really not nice, but they told us it's dangerous to walk anywhere else. Well, it is not! If you face the sea just walk few minutes on your left and you will find a much nicer beach. There is a hotel Tropical Inn and if you want to you can buy packet and use their pool, showers, toilets, beach beds, etc. We did that and we really enjoyed it. Be careful! The island is beautiful and so is the beach, it is much more calm than the beaches in Cartagena such as Bocagrande and it doesn't have that many people selling random stuff to you. But be careful: as a tourist, you're basically a target for them. Pay attention to the price to go to the island: the 'fair' price, meaning, the tourist price is ,00 to go and return and make sure you negotiate very well with them before you leave Cartagena. We got the boat in Laguito and we negotiated ,00 plus lunch - lunch you have to pay for what you eat, but since we negotiated before we didn't had to pay for the chair we were sitting in. On the first time we went, they asked us to pay 50, so, really, be careful! And say no! Anna K Toronto, Canada 11 contributions. We booked a two day stay on Tierra Bomba on Airbnb. Our host was lovely and arranged for a boat to transport us to and from the island. The house we stayed in was beautiful. However, it was the only nice house in Punta Arenas. The surrounding houses were falling apart and the lots and beach areas were littered with garbage. So much garbage. The first day we went to the beach nearby filled with kiosks. Unfortunately the young man who took our orders didn't mention that sitting on the wooden benches would add an extra We would have preferred the heads up. With the drinks we ordered it came to He gave us Arguing was pointless since our Spanish isn't fluent and he had a large group of peers around. So beware of the beach kiosks and pay for your orders in exact change. On our second day we took a walk in the afternoon farther past the beach we'd been on the day before. In front of Hotel Tropical Inn we were approached by three men on a motorbike. Two jumped off and came towards us. One grabbed the bag I was holding and the other held a knife out near my boyfriend. The security guards at Hotel Tropical Inn saw what happened from the balcony and yelled at the men and made their way downstairs to help us. They jumped on their motorbikes and pursued the men. The staff at Hotel Tropical Inn were amazing and understanding, and they managed to get my bag back. I only had two towels and dirty socks in my bag and after realizing that the thieves ditched it. Don't walk around with ANY valuables in your bag or on your person on this island. We were lucky our BnB had a marvellous chef because there is nowhere to eat here. It's a pretty rough spot unless you're staying on a resort or in a safe BnB. I was really disappointed by the state of the island. It could be a beautiful place if the people there really wanted it to be. For the time being I won't be coming back. Pedro S Cartagena, Colombia 4 contributions. Nice place Nice people. I absolutely loved my time at the Vista Heroica in Tierra Bomba What I don't know that the description captures is how perfect this place is as a rejuvenation solo spot. El MONO a local guy picked me up immediately from the airport and started my Cartagena education quickly. This was really helpful for the rest of my trip I stayed at Tierra Bomba for 3 of a 10 day trip. He spoke to me about his passion for the community we were walking into and quickly took a boat to get to the island where an amazing lunch was waiting. For a very cheap price, the onsite cook will make you the freshest best tasting meals. The beach is about a 15 minute hike away and you don't often feel like making that hike on your own. But MONO is super accessible and really becomes host for your stay on the island. He goes with you to the beach and helps navigate you on any time in Tierra Bomba not immediately on the huts. The site itself is beautiful, Tierra Bomba is very rural, and travelers should know they are walking into rural Latin America. It's not a party spot. It's a rest and regenerate spot. I was exhausted when I got there and it truly gave me time to get my head space right. I tanned, I read in a hammock, I painted, I wrote, I soaked in the cool water jacuzzi. Everything was about relaxing. The kids on the island were this benefit I would have never anticipated. They are incredibly sweet and inquisitive and thoughtful. MONO hosts movie night for the towns kids on a wall of the hotel and it's super cute. They also came out and played on the beach. They are really good about giving you space and alone time if you want it, but it's nice to be a kid with them. I loved the beach so much that when I went to meet a group of friends in Cartagena, we contacted Pedro so we could arrange a beach day with him. He was of course, accommodating and the best host you could ask for. The view of Cartagena is priceless, especially at sunset. MONO offers an ecovoluntourism deal if you're interested. He's got lots of projects going with the community and knows tons of people that can make your stay enjoyable. Overall, I thought it was awesome and I would go back. On the plane ride to Cartagena, I sat next to a young couple who highly recommended Mariana's Beach Club for our family of five. I am so happy we took their advice because we had a wonderful day enjoying great service from Mariana and her staff. I knew it was going to be worthwhile when Mariana greeted us on arrival. Five cold drinks emerged immediately as did a delicious snack. The price of 98, pesos about 35 dollars included boat ride over, snack, drinks, delicious fish lunch and beach service towels chairs etc. A very sophisticated and lovely spot. I highly recommend it. Jill C Dublin, Ireland contributions. Wouldn't Recommend unless pre-booked Beach Club. We missed all the day tours to Playa Blanca and Rosario as we arrived at the marina in Cartagena at 9am. We wanted beach time so we were duped into buying a return boat trip to Tierrabomba island. The boat ride was rough, with the surf covering the whole boat at certain points. We were dropped at the beach bar with galvanised wind shades and an owner who told us that if we tried to go anywhere else, someone would kill us. We did not feel safe here at all! Having met another tourist, we collectively decided to leave and walk down the beach - we were followed by a gang of people. It really felt like we were about to be knifed and we're not scaredy cat travellers - we had just spent 4 months travelling the length and breadth of South America. The first safe looking place we bumped into was the Tropical Inn that had a pool and a beach bar - we legged it in. The day actually turned out ok in the end as we chilled by the pool, didn't even leave the hotel area and were picked up by our boat driver around 5pm. I'd recommend if you are coming to one of these islands, book through a beach club and have them bring you directly there and directly back. This would no doubt be a pleasant experience, free from death threats. Alexis Z. Brooklyn, NY 9 contributions. Mariana's Beach Club, Tierra Bomba. This was a gem! Only 7 minutes from Cartagena! I much preferred this beach setting over Rosario island. This was a private beach club, the decor was so lovely and the attention to detail was everywhere. There were no vendors on the beach. We had a great lunch of fresh fish! You can have your hotel arrange this day trip. You take a small boat over to the island around 10am and return around 4 pm. It is a great beach day. I also think this club is sometimes called Cartagena Beach Club. Only if you go the Blue Apple Beach Club! Tierra Bomba is bigger than people think, the town Bocachica is pretty large and scrappy, some 'restaurants' on the Cartagena side aren't great. Lovely little beach with perfect and gentle waves, a gorgeous sunset, a nice pool and great atmosphere and exceptionally sophisticated food. There's a reason a big hotel is being built right near there, and the more simple Isla Real is there along with a private Colombian place. I'm told in February, the water's crystal clear. Don't be bamboozled, choose a safe boat, we had to bail out in high seas!! My plan was to go to Punta Arena, the beach on the Island Tierra Bomba opposite Cartegena, take a right after the boat docked, drift along the beach, take in some rays and sip a beer On seeing the boat I said to my son 'we're not getting in that! A neighbouring family were piling into 'un barco' 3 times the size of ours. I expressed my fears bu the burly Colombian, name of 'Eris', shrugged them off as did my son. As we set off in this bath tub, Eris persuaded us to go to Playa Linda, where no doubt his family had a restaurant for a round trip of 80, pesos where it would be 'muy tranquillo'. Despite misgivings, we set off in increasingly high seas which swelled to 3 metre waves around the headland and soaked us to the skin. The ride back was worse with the tiny boat cresting metre waves, crashing off the peak and swamping the boat. We had to bail out!!!!!!! Never, never go out on a small ill-equipped boat. I was a fool - especially being a sailor and knowing the dangers. My son and I were stupid to accept the first offer from this garrulous giant and I've learnt a lesson I hope I'll never forget. Thankfully, we arrived home to a hot shower in one piece. I believe this includes lunch! But check!! Edwin V. Majo R Azul, Argentina contributions. Para eso tenes que ir a las islas del rosario.
