However, the tension between production and development became too great and the project was dismantled. Having worked for years toward a comprehensive curatorial model for the selection of projects, the decision was made in to officially transition PWM away from the membership model. This shift enabled PWM to better support the evolving artistic community and collaborate more effectively with emerging and established artists alike. During this year, PWM launched the first call for applications for Dramaturgical Collaboration and deepened the organizational commitment to accessibility, equity, diversity and inclusion. Over the past 60 years, PWM has collaborated on the development of more than new works for theatre and performance. PWM continues to strengthen, develop and celebrate relationships with collaborating artists through its ongoing programming. Our journey is far from over. PWM remains steadfast in its mission to centre artists, to explore new horizons in playwriting, performance, and dramaturgy, and to work collaboratively with artists in shaping the future of theatre. As we reflect on the past 60 years, we look forward to the many more years of innovative artistic collaborations that lie ahead. We continue to stand side by side with the artistic community, celebrating their ingenuity, and supporting their creative endeavours. The Group of 5 is a collective of 5 professional independent English-language theatre companies seeking to share a creative and administrative space to establish a sustainable arts ecosystem. The Group of 5 aims to provide its members with a permanent and viable infrastructure — a physical space — where members can share resources, create, and grow our community. The vision for the Group of 5 is to sustain the development and presence of professional English-language theatre in the Quebec and Montreal arts landscape. The collective would galvanize exchanges and resources sharing among its members — both past and present—with the aim to strengthen the English-language minority community and expand upon the scope, inclusivity, and vibrancy of Quebec theatre. We believe a shared space and the resulting collective ecosystem will expand the boundaries of theatrical creation. During his studies, he took interest in dramaturgy and the history of art. Her firsthand experience with the vulnerability of performance and the roller coaster ride of the creative process is what makes them appreciate the work that PWM does to help artists manage frustrations, overcome obstacles and better enjoy rewards as they shape their projects. One can always depend on great conversation and artistic exchange when you spend time there. As a young actor it was always a point of pride to be hired to read a new script in workshop: it was a wonderful job no matter how quickly you passed through their doors or how long you stayed; it has been some of the best training I have ever received as an actor. It taught me how to be clear and rigorous and respectful. As a playwright, I have received an incredible amount of support from the folks at PWM and would have never completed my last play without their belief in me. The relationship I have with PWM is a rare one. I have taken that and used it to build the artist I have always wanted to become. Nor would I have been able to sustain a career in Montreal as a playwright working in both English and French. PWM introduced me to the Francophone-theatre milieu as a potential translator in the s. From there grew my familiarity with the agents and stakeholders of the milieu, which led to me serving as a kind of bridge between Anglophone and Francophone theatre in Montreal, a role I happily play today, along with a growing number of bilingual and multilingual artists who make their livelihoods in both English and French in this city. Other Worlds will be presented with as a Geordie Theatre mainstage production from September 29 — October 7, Alexis Diamond — Translator. She creates works for a wide range of audiences, from toddlers, to school-aged children, to all ages, to adults only, which have garnered awards, residencies, and attention at home and abroad. Aki is a biracial, Japanese-Canadian nisei, second generation dramaturg and arts educator raised in Ottawa and Tokyo within a family of pedagogues. Since moving to Montreal Aki has worked with emerging theatre artists in training at the National Theatre School of Canada. Intercultural performance resonates deeply with Aki as a bi-racial artists whose mixed-identity has always been a centre point of her existence. Aki has been engaging in dramaturgical collaboration apprenticeships for a number of years following her studies. Since joining PWM, Aki has collaborated with a number of artists in developing their projects and is continuously discovering new elements of her artistic process with every new collaboration. She has mentored both graduate students and professional theatre makers through university training programs, internships, and play development programs at a variety of theatres. Originally from Portugal, Helena moved to Montreal in Trained in communications and performing arts, she has worked in different countries and in several fields, including directing, producing and acting for film, and acting and directing theatre. Her inspired background encircles many achievements, and her experience is in good use coordinating new training activities, through her shared position between PWM and CEAD. Anne-Sophie Grenier is a writer, performer, curator, and arts administrator. She grew up in Montreal and started training in theatre and the visual arts as soon as she could talk and walk. Whereas her management and leadership are centered in care and consideration, her artistic practice embraces chaos and flair. Her works on stage, page, and screen have been shown in Montreal, Kingston, Niagara, Italy, and Uganda. She has also worked in documentary production, festival management, and international development. She is the Chair of The Mercy Project, a non-profit organization funding health care for vulnerable women and children in resource-limited settings. Her graduate studies focused on the role that artist-run spaces play in fostering creative placemaking and healthier cultural communities.
