A cocaine dealer had a collection of designer clothes, trainers and watches along with a flash car which he did not want his partner to know the whereabouts of, a court has heard. But he confessed its location to cops when they swooped on him after he had taken his dog for a walk. Sending the defendant to prison a judge told him he had become involved in the murky world of dealing dealing an insidious drug which was a blight on society. Swansea Crow Court that on the evening of November 4 last year police officers were carrying out surveillance on a Port Talbot flat prior to executing a search warrant at the property. Tom Scapens, prosecuting, said as officers kept watch on the block, Mainwaring was seen to leave and take a dog for a walk before returning home. Shortly afterwards the defendant left again and got into a nearby VW Caddy van. The court heard officers then 'swarmed' the vehicle and detained the driver. Also found on the year-old defendant was a key for a Mercedes car, and the prosecutor said Mainwaring told officers where the vehicle was parked and that they would find cannabis in it. The court heard the defendant told officers he kept the car at another location some five miles away from where he lived 'so his girlfriend did not known where it was'. When officers found and searched the Mercedes AMG they found 39g of cannabis, weighing scales, and a large quantity of empty snap-seal bags. The prosecutor said it appeared to police that Mainwaring' was living a 'lavish lifestyle'. When the defendant's phone was examined police found messages relating to the supply of cocaine and cannabis, along with a tick list of moneys owed by customers. Read about a 'greedy' young cocaine dealer who was supplying wholesale quantities of coke to fellow dealers for onward supply. Mainwaring subsequently answered 'no comment' to all questions asked during his interview. He has one pervious conviction for one offence, an assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Ian Ibrahim, for Mainwaring, said the defendant had found school 'difficult' and had been told to leave home by his step-father at the age of 16 but had gone on to college and gained qualifications in a range of trades and skills including carpentry, bricklaying, and groundworks. He said his client had worked up until when the project he was employed on came to an end, and after losing his job the defendant began to suffer with anxiety and depression, began drinking, and was later introduced to cocaine. The barrister said Mainwaring was remorseful for what he had done, and for 'the shame he has brought upon those who love him'. Judge Huw Rees told Mainwaring he was impressed by the way he had essentially brought himself up and found good work, but he said the defendant had subsequently become involved in the 'murky world' of dealing the insidious drug cocaine which was a 'blight' on society. With a one-quarter discount for his guilty pleas Mainwaring was sentenced to a 32 months in prison comprising 32 months for possession of cocaine with intent to supply, six months for possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and two months for possession of the cash all to run concurrently. The defendant will serve up to half the 32 months in prison before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.
