The two sides agreed to meet at a bar near the Lamai Beach to conduct the transaction. Mattio met with the undercover officer in the back of the bar but Mr. Mattio tried to escape on a motorbike when he realized that his customer was actually law enforcement. However, Mr. Mattio was blocked from escaping by other police and Immigration officials and arrested nearby. Seized from him were 31 grams of cocaine. Surely he must have thought it a bit odd that someone asked for that much. Will he get done for just selling it or will he get done for selling so much as the amount was basically decided by the police. I would never got to Thailand's islands and especially Ko Tao after the terrible vicious murders of the two backpackers. It seems there are a fair few rapes of foreign girls and unsolved murders of foreigners. Ko Tao is from all accounts run by 3 very nasty violent mafia families. People think they are safe but they are not. Be careful in these places or my advice do not go at all. The murders in Thailand were so sad and it's horrible to hear about but I wouldn't let it stop anyone travelling to Thailand's islands. Hundreds of thousands of backpackers travel there every year and the vast majority of them come to no harm. When we arrived some guys started to ask if we needed a taxi. As soon as they clocked the handcuffs they roared with laughter. The boys were taken to the court house but it was closed until Monday. This was three more nights in jail at least. It was surreal. The next three days passed in a haze of cigarette smoke, sleep and watching the guards read gun magazines from behind their desks. On the Monday morning Daniel was taken to court but learned his case had been postponed for a month. They ended up staying with a family, helping run their guest house in return for food and accommodation and even took the kids to school. This continued to happen for the next six months. His passport was confiscated and was told to remain in the country. He went straight to the British Embassy but after 11 days he got it back and was finally able to leave.
