After taking office, Lima established a criminal network operating under his command that involved officials of the Transit Municipal Police. Checha was arrested in December and charged with several crimes including drug trafficking. Lima seems to be unbothered by the legal case he faces, being seemingly focused only on the next election. Arnoldo Vargas Estrada, running in the department of Zacapa, was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
