Local Butcher Saves Stray Dog with Quick Thinking and a Meat Cleaver

Springfield, October 5, 2024 – In an unexpected turn of events, local butcher Harold Jenkins became an unlikely hero when he used his trusty meat cleaver to free a trapped stray dog from a tangled chain-link fence.

The incident occurred outside Jenkins’ shop, Prime Cuts Butchery, when he heard distressed whimpers coming from the alley. There, he found a small terrier mix with its paw tightly caught in the twisted metal of a broken fence.

'I didn’t think twice—I just grabbed my cleaver and carefully cut through the chain links,' Jenkins said. 'It was either that or watch the poor thing suffer.'

Springfield Animal Control arrived shortly after and confirmed the dog was unharmed. The stray, now nicknamed 'Cleaver' by locals, is being cared for at the Springfield Humane Society and is expected to be put up for adoption soon.

'Harold’s quick action saved that dog from serious injury,' said Officer Linda Reyes of Animal Control. 'Sometimes, the right tool in the right hands makes all the difference.'

Jenkins, modest about the attention, joked, 'Guess my cleaver’s good for more than just chopping ribs.'
